I still have to wait for the Vita release (hopefully with the DLC characters included), but I'm so hyped for this game. I've been playing BB since CS2 and I am still horribly bad at it because of my on/off relationship with the game. If I did try online, people would wipe the floor with my ass within seconds. At the moment, I really enjoy playing with Makoto and had somewhat positive results when practicing with Jin and Tao but I lack skill with either for A) I don't watch combo tutorials and B) the challenge combos are seriously messed up. A lot of them seemed to be focused more on style than effectiveness...

Challenge combos vary in mileage. Some are terribly impractical, others are pretty good. Usually only the last 5 or so are any good.

Online is awesome and so are the tutorials. Try it before you speak ill of it lol.
I did. Till They wanted me to do a bunch of combos at once. 2 hours later I said fuck it. And online had nothing but people whod either A) kick me from the room because my w/l sucked to them or anyone I did play would beat me within seconds.
That's how the tutorial is supposed to work so it needs no fixing. You do have to become able of performing a bunch of combos at once in Blazblue.

There is no win loss ratio in player rooms so I don't know what the hell you're talking about lol. Are you maybe playing an older version of this game?

And yes, of course they'd beat you within seconds, you apparently didn't learn to do combos yet so its only natural. This is a fighting game, you can't expect to win instantly against people who've played for dozens of thousands of matches.
I was talking about P4A. Haven't bought this, will probably never will. I also want the communities to change before I should play again.
Huh? P4A? That's an entirely different series. This is Blazblue Chronophantasma. They're made by the same company, that's all. You can't rationally judge this series based on a different series.

What do you mean "the communities to change"? That's a very broad and generic statement that can be fulfilled by just about anything.
Sometimes when I lost online, I'd get an email insulting me because I lost. I have also tried in the past to get some help and just got told "go away scrub you're ruining it for the rest of us".

You have been unlucky then. Though to be frank you do kinda have this air of negativity around you which might make people combative. Either way, if you end up getting this I'd love to help ya train. Most good people are also helpful, it's the bad (but not terrible) players who need to put others down to make themselves feel good.

I'm only negative because of the crap I had to deal with.

Oh DOA5 is F2P? Cool, i've seen zero screens or footage of it and i've always written it off as being too fanservicey but if the mechanics are good then I might as well try.
Yeah it has fanservice quite a bit it also has solid mechanics and is very easy to get into but has a lot of depth like all good fighters do. Online is not the best though although I have had much better games recently after the last patch and the new patch and character have just come out so maybe its improved again. You have nothing to lose from trying it out though and if you do get a PS3 and this game and like it PM and I can add you I need someone from the UK to play :)

I swear to god i've seen you raging about Tekken around here before. It reminds me of my posts on UMVC3's X-Factor mechanic, ye gods the essay I could write on how pants on head retarded that is. Tekken is 3D right? I've never really been into 3D fighters for some reason, it's hard enough to play when you only have one dimension to worry about and the characters somehow seem less interesting. I played SC4 for a bit and kind of mashed buttons because I understood nothing and i'm confused to this day why Yoda was allowed into the roster. I don't know if he's super God Tier or the worst thing ever.
Yeah im gonna stop that its just bloody annoying when lag alters the game so much still a fun game though. I am ok at SC but the only one worth playing online is V all the others have terrible netcode but V is excellent online again if you ever want to play a few rounds I would be happy to teach you im hardly pro level but its one of the games I am confident in my ability to do better than average in. Yoda was trash pretty much but he was annoying as hell trash dont know about Darth Vader I only played SC4 on the 360 (before it died).

Not WW2 as such but yeah sorta I have never played Fire Emblem keep meaning to get the new one and will if I ever buy a 3DS Valkyria Chronicles is a strange beast but it is amazing well worth getting if you ever do get a PS3 basically imo its the first game you should get for it its that good although maybe I am setting unreasonable expectations now.

Yeah but in Skyrim I don't have to press 500 buttons in a row to shoot a fireball that does only a sliver of damage.
Well they are completely different genres and games also like most fighters it borrows from the Street Fighter 2 system so projectiles for a lot of characters are quarter forward and then a button press. Sounds like you are struggling with the games or genre and are being sensationalist about it. Its like me saying yeah but in BB at least I dont have to spend 50 billion hours to get the best stuff its a pointless comment and also has no bearing in reality being designed just to put the other game down.

Slightly unconnected but I dont want to create a new thread about it, Chaos Code has released in the UK PSN store which came completely out of the blue for me I may have to try that game as well. Hopefully Under Night in Birth is next.

He made a comparison with skyrim and fighters, so I pointed out that games like skyrim are at least easier to learn and theres no complicated button mashing or even better IMO, no interaction with anyone.

Just finished the story mode! That ending! Those bastards! The epilogue wasn't long enough!

The story mode in this game has far surpassed that of its predecessors, imo. I am shocked how many aspects of the story were explained. Shit is crazy!

Really curious how many games are left before the story ends. I have heard this one was supposed to be the middle of the story, so one or two more?

He? you mean me?. My comparison was in response to your question of why buy now? because another one will be released later thats updated statement and I was merely pointing out the same kind of thinking could be applied to other games and just used Skyrim as an example.

I drew no similarities gameplay wise and I was just wondering why you suddenly jumped to comparing them in such a way its pretty obvious not what I was getting at and I think most people wont need the differences in a fighter and RPG to be spelled out with a wide brush.

Fighters arent easy to learn (except at a basic level then they are ridiculously simple) to get really good takes hundreds of hours if not more. A certain degree of execution is required of the player which is higher than most genres. You dont need to interact with anyone when playing fighters either almost all have a one player mode (a few of which are excellent) but the genre is designed with competition and interaction in mind.

If you want a low execution, simple to learn one player game you are probably looking in the wrong genre.

I can empathize with that frustration. I was a veteran of the 3-d fighting circuit for years, and BlazBlue was my first transition to 2-d fighting, and holy crap were the combos the tutorial asked of me frustrating. >.< The timing was so counter-intuitive, and I spent hours struggling over what amounted to being a fraction of a second too fast with a single button input.

That said, I personally am very thankful for Blazblue's tutorial mode. It's insanely thorough, and designed to help a person get acquainted with all the terms and concepts of 2-d fighting. I was a complete noob, and the 2-d fighting circle can be a hilariously insular and elitist clique. Without that tutorial section, I would have never gotten the hang of some fo the more abstract concepts, like zoning or super cancelling.

That's my issue with everything. All I hear is about how bad these people act towards newcomers and I've experienced it firsthand.

I find that this kinda narrative is false and spread around by, for a lack of a better term, butthurt scrubs who lost bad and couldn't deal with it and instead of politely asking for advice assumed an accusatory tone with their complaints.

I started fighting games with Blazblue in 2009 and I have had a totally awesome experience. There's assholes in every scene but all you gotta do is just practice and beat them super hard and shut em up. As I said, it's the bad-but-not-terrible players who behave thus. The truly good ones are insanely helpful and will sit with you for 5 hours in a row playing practice rounds and explaining stuff.

I already offered to do this in this topic, in fact, so if you genuinely wanna get into the series instead of just pretend you do but the scene is somehow driving you off, all you have to do is take me up on that offer.

There's one more game left for story purposes. We're about 80% done with the story according to the producer.

That is much further along than I thought, though I suppose that does make sense considering how the game ended. I love the story for the characters and because I enjoy its brand of stupid (ass-pulls and contrived twists alike), so I hope the end of the story really delivers.

That's great. Now when the hell are we getting it?
It's getting pretty worrying that there hasn't even been the subtlest hint of an EU release yet. I don't really fancy importing. I'm not patient enough and I have no idea how much shipping will cost.

If you don't announce the European release soon I will have to throw things at you, Arc System Works.

I dont know I personally have given up on waiting for the EU releases but I would expect Europe to see it within the 6 to 12 months given past release scheduling. Im importing, its costing me just under 35 Pounds (GBP) for the game and shipping which isnt to bad although I still have to wait a bit. Hopefully it will be here before the end of April.

By the way, can anyone tell me if Kokonoe is available for purchase in the US yet? I went onto PSN to buy her, but couldn't find her anywhere. I had no trouble using my free voucher for Terumi, but I wanted to pick both of them up.

Also, how hilarious that a relative non-combatant like Kokonoe gets introduced to the game before Jubei. XD we'll never get all 6 heroes.

I think the DLC will be available on the PSN starting next week.

As for new characters... considering there is supposedly one game left in the story (before what I assume with be a reboot/overhaul) I doubt they'll add any new characters that haven't already been introduced or alluded to. I think it's a fair bet that Nine and Saya will at least be playable in the final game, but I am really hoping Jubei shows up at least as DLC or something.

On that note, I can't find anywhere to discuss the game's story. Only the Japanese fans really care about it apparently T^T

Gamefaqs' community is pretty awful and for some reason I couldn't find any story discussions on Dustloop when I looked. They did recently change up the site, so I dunno. Anyway, you still considering making a user group? I plan to start practicing new Noel and Bang this weekend and it'd be cool to get some games in with some peeps. Also, you know, talk about the story XD

Eh, give the english-speaking world a chance to catch up. They've only had the ability to experience the story first hand for a few days now. Personally, story is the only reason I really play Blaz Blue, so if it turns out there's nowhere to discuss it later I shall be most distressed. XD

I was gauging interest in a group. I don't want it to die so I kinda wanted to see if people were interested in actively participating. Last couple fighting game groups including a BB group ended with just me posting stuff and nobody ever arranging to play, I believe in the old BB group some people were like, still on CT by the time extend was out cause they played on the PC only and the rest were only on Xbox. It was quite disappointing to say the least since I never once got to play with anyone there. At least with P4A I got to play a couple folks from the SMT group.

Oh and you're in luck as Bang is my main, I can pretty much tell you everything you need to know about him.

Finally, you should give the GF community a chance. In other boards it might suck but the BB boards are awesome. Been going there since the CT times and have a bunch of friends who I met there over the years. We have a skype group and everything. As for dustloop, here you go:
