You. Don't. Understand.

It doesn't matter how the game works or how ping requirements are set, if I can't play the game because I can't join rooms agsinst people on the other side of the world then I can't play the game. That's all there is to it. The only people playing are in the states or Japan (as verified by me when i checked the host's gamercards) and as such the distance is too great to sustain a suitable connection. It has nothing to do with my connection.
Make. Your. Own. Room. And. Have. People. Join. In. Instead. Of. Trying. To. Join. Other. People's. Rooms. All. The. Time. (not very fun to post like this now is it)

Unless you're the first martian colonist from the future or Australian, you should be able to have SOMEONE connect to your room or have some rooms you can connect to. I know cause I've had numerous people connect to my rooms, ones from all around Europe, Japan, USA and even the middle east.

If you're the future martian colonist, just take the spaceship which has the ps3 in it over whichever location your foe is at and the lag will be nonexistent...and if you're Australian sorry but your internet does suck for this type of thing.
/facepalm.

You aren't understanding this at all. The people that play this game are all on the other side of the world. It doesn't matter whether I set up a room or join theirs (other than the fact that the people creating Beginner rooms are all NOT AT ALL beginners) because the distance is the problem. It is impossible playing over that distance for any game, especially fighting games, because it inherently leaves too much lag. That's just a fact of life. That's why i've said, twice, the game is unplayable online. I've created many rooms, why you assume i haven't is beyond me but it's clear you aren't reading what I've written properly. No one joins those rooms (i would assume because of the connection issue which is a two way street). The fact the game allows people to lock players out with a too-low connection is just icing on the cake. The game is too obscure to draw enough players to make it viable for me online because I dont live where the players (all hardcore fans) live. I also don't really want to fight people 48 ranks above me.
The game isn't unplayable, you, specifically, simply can't play it due to your circumstances. To say that the game is unplayable reflects on it doing something wrong when the fact of the matter is it's doing what it can do and you're simply unlucky. It's not its fault that the internet isn't good enough to enable quick play from all over the world.

The beginner rooms are another thing entirely, some people may be trying out new characters and don't wanna be butchered by people using their main characters, some may have a friend over who is trying out the game. In the end, most of them really do happen to be beginners, even the ones that seem too good to you merely seem that good but in actuality happen to only know enough things that you don't to make it look that way. They wouldn't actually last against a true expert any more than you last against them. Trust me, actual experts never join or make beginner rooms as anything more than a joke once in a while, it's too boring to do that.

Ranks reflect nothing, i got to level 50 in 11 days. If you just do ranked you level up faster but it doesn't mean you're good. A person who only does ranked can get to lvl 50 in about 500 wins, a person who only does player matches would need around 4000. Sure, the two may SEEM similarly skilled...but the player room guy is going to own the ranked guy soooo bad that you will actually feel it in your bones, you'll come to realize that ranks mean nothing. As for why people would do player over ranked? Easy, you have actual rooms, you don't need to seek after every match, it's more fun. I only do ranked when I can't find a room to join and i don't feel like hosting...and always after like 1-2 games an acceptable room pops up.

As for the locking people out, it's so you can have lag-free rounds. If someone's situation causes lag, then that person shouldn't be ruining other, legitimately lag-free matches. They should be locked out since it's wrong to cause lag to people who don't have a problem with their situation in relation to the rest of the majority of the gaming community. You may be the one left out but you should still be able to see that the principle of the matter behind the system is a good one.

I liked it, and picked up most of the mechanics fairly quickly, but I do have to agree, it just isn't fair that SOME things only work SOMEtimes on CERTAIN characters.

I tried it, and didn't like it, either. Because of the reasons you stated, and because I happen to think that Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is the greatest fighting game of all time, largely because of how simple it is and how it's totally unsuitable for tournament play.
If you think MK3 is the greatest ever (I like it as well) you should try my favorite fighting game. Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe. As simple as three. It's graphics are amazing, aaaaaand they also introduce some new mechanics that at least in the opinions of my friends make it totally unsuitable for tournament play yet we play it all the time for fun. Personally I'd like to see some MK vs. DCU tourneys but hey that's me.

In fact before BlazBlue it had the most robust story mode that I thought was excellent (both sides of it.)

Also thanks for all the story advice on BlazBlue gang, I think I can piece it together online now.
I'll give it a shot, I am a bit concerned about there being new mechanics, though. The thing I liked about MK3 was it kind of had none.
Cool! I'll bet you like it. I think one of the reasons it gets so much hate is because of those new mechanics. I get their point. The new mechanics are Close Combat, Free Fall Combat, and Test your might. Or put another way: Rock paper scissors, Rock paper scissors, and Track and Field. When you take a bunch of fans who have perfected their moves sets and combos and suddenly throw that in the mix (which I think just adds to the fun of the game personally) well if your all cold and logical about your fighting games I guess that might make you not like it. I love it myself. It's fun to have the perfect stategy all laid out in your head, knowing your going to win and then something happens that says maybe not.

I also happen to think their idea of having it play but not look like a normal 2-D fighter worked really well. Visually speaking it is also some of the most rich character design I've ever seen in a fighter.

That's factually incorrect, if you do something in the same circumstances in the same precise timing, it'll always work.

You simply haven't deciphered enough about the situation. Some chars are big, some are small, it makes sense that it's easier to hit the big thing and harder to hit the small thing, no?

Some hits hit higher than others, if the foe is crouching it makes sense that they miss.

Some hits bounce you against the wall, if you use them when you're right at the wall yourself it makes sense that the foe's body will be blasted above you and towards the opposite direction, forcing you to use a different combo than you would had you used the move mid-screen.

There's countless little things like that. They're what "depth" means. You absorb more and more of them the longer you play and use them to improve, they're the source of fun for this game and how willing you are to pay attention to what's going on will define how much you'll enjoy this game.

THere is an issue, hence me saying there is an issue. I'm not sure what you are expecting me to say. Maybe your internet is better than mine, though i doubt that it's that much different. The fact is there are too few people playing that i can connect to. Why that is isn't really relevant. So if someone is thinking about playing this game, they shouyld bear that in mind.

What he said. The issue is you're connection. You can't warn people off of a game because you're connection wasn't up to the challenge. The most you can say is to 'beware if you're connection isn't the best.'
The problem isn't the connection per se. I have an average UK internet setup. The same as most in the UK. Expecting me to be able to play against someone in Japan is just not going to happen because the distance is just too great. It was the same with SF - the only difference is that there are more people playing SF than BB.
Japan may be a problem but I frequently have lag-free games with British folks. Maybe it that I'm on ps3 and you're on the 360, maybe it's that both me and my friend list folks are on wired and not wifi internet, maybe your connection isn't as average as it is sub-par. I don't know but I do know I've had tons of lag-free games with people from all over Europe so the game is not at fault.

I never played Guilty Gear, and I fucking loved BlazBlue. BB is the game that made me like fighting games. I downloaded Guilty Gear XX #Reload just the other day, and loved it as well.
You're enjoyment of the series depends on two things:
1. How much you like Rock/Metal.
2. How much you like anime.
I'm not to fond of number one, but I do love me some anime.
And you're looking for really cool characters? What about this mofo?
