BlazBlue... did I miss something?

A buddy of mine picked up a copy, and we sat down to play against each other without going through any of the tutorials. We had a blast with it, and some of the deeper mechanics just kind of came to us as we experimented with different characters and different tactics.

I'm not great at fighting games. I can usually hold my own against someone else who's played a game for a while, but I'm nowhere near skilled enough to compete at a tournament level or anything. I don't think I'd ever get into the deepest aspects of BlazBlue, but I certainly enjoy it the way myself and my friend experienced it.

For my money, the greatest fighting games are the SoulCalibur series, although SCIV was a little disappointing. I'm waiting to see how Marvel vs. Capcom 3 stacks up to its predecessors.

Blazblue is awesome. Best fighter to come out in recent memory in my opinion. Too bad you didn't like it. =(

Oh here we go again with the attitude.

I didn't say anything about lag. You can't play with people if your internet connection doesn't meet the room's requirement. That's how the game is designed, as you well know. "your internet sucks" is a fucking retarded argument, change the record.
Humor and joking around is not an attitude, it's a way of life. You really should start getting used to it or you'll be miserable.

Room requirements are made by PEOPLE, not the game or a magical fairy. People are being allowed to decide what kind of lag they're willing to allow in their rooms, what is wrong with that?

If you want a room without connection limits, MAKE ONE YOURSELF. It is not hard, often it is preferred since you can keep your win record and not get kicked if you win too much or if just the host needs to leave, ruining your beautiful win streak.

Lastly, the connections ARE an indicator of lag, if you can't join those green or yellow rooms, you WOULD lag if you did join if those people did not limit their room, thus my prior joking post does contain some truth in it.

It is better to get to play less than to play in lag since the game and a few characters more than others are truly unplayable in lag and it all boils down to skill-less mashing which is not what this game is about.

Wow. People who like fighting games hate Street Fighter?? The literal Mother of fighting games?? If it's not to your tastes, that's fine, but why bother hating it? Just don't waste your own energy on it.
I don't. The only Street Fighter I can stand these days is SF3, but I don't usually bring that up.

I'm too busy playing Melty Blood and Arcana Heart.
Third Strike is Excellent!
That it is. And Makoto's half the reason I have any interest at all in 4, and Yun and Yang are the other half (if they added Remy, I'd be in heaven...but they already have Guile, so that's pretty unlikely).

Could you tell me what system Melty Blood is on and compare it to another fighter please?
Depends on which version. There are four by now (Melty Blood, Melty Blood: Re-Act, Melty Blood: Act Cadenza, and Melty Blood: Actress Again). The first three are on the PC, and the second two are PS2 assuming you're willing to import them from Japan.

And compared to another fighter...think Guilty Gear, with SF3's animation quality and Arcana Heart's button setup. I've actually <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.230960-TYPE-MOON-reviews-Melty-Blood>reviewed the first game and plan to do the other ones, but if you're interested in it as a fighting game, I'd recommend Act Cadenza (or Re-Act as a second choice, and if you're interested in Story Mode). Both have been translated by <url=http://mirrormoon.org/projects/melty_blood_act_cadenza>Mirror Moon.
Thanks for linking me to your review it was great, very detailed. I think I might try it on the computer if the boss isn't so tough that they're unbeatable without a controller because I would be playing it to catch up on story I missed since I never beat Guilty Gear with any one. (I was playing it on the Wii okay?? I wanted to try it with motion controls after seeing what midway had done with Armagedon. I know, I know, bad move. Then I had to sell my Wii.)

So what game is the backstory for Continuum Shift in? The review was great (I'd really like to play the maid team that sounds hillarious) but I didn't hear mention of any of the BlazBlue club? Why not? When you were talking about a very different and particular vampire I could have sworn you meant Rachel. I love her. I'll never forget her berating me for doing, well practically anything, then she is showing you a move that requires the "dreaded" dragon punch motion and mentioning that naturally my feeble mind will most assuredly fail such an adult puzzle so I nail it on the first shot and without missing a beat she banishes me to a seven hit combo hell for the next hour and forty-five minutes! They can program Sensei vindictiveness? Brilliance!!

You. Don't. Understand.

It doesn't matter how the game works or how ping requirements are set, if I can't play the game because I can't join rooms agsinst people on the other side of the world then I can't play the game. That's all there is to it. The only people playing are in the states or Japan (as verified by me when i checked the host's gamercards) and as such the distance is too great to sustain a suitable connection. It has nothing to do with my connection.
Make. Your. Own. Room. And. Have. People. Join. In. Instead. Of. Trying. To. Join. Other. People's. Rooms. All. The. Time. (not very fun to post like this now is it)

Unless you're the first martian colonist from the future or Australian, you should be able to have SOMEONE connect to your room or have some rooms you can connect to. I know cause I've had numerous people connect to my rooms, ones from all around Europe, Japan, USA and even the middle east.

If you're the future martian colonist, just take the spaceship which has the ps3 in it over whichever location your foe is at and the lag will be nonexistent...and if you're Australian sorry but your internet does suck for this type of thing.

There's only one truly difficult boss, and I managed to beat her with the keyboard (albeit on a lower difficulty), so...

...wait.

Because it's not a Blazblue game. Melty Blood is its own series, a fighting game sequel to the original visual novel <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.128851-TYPE-MOON-reviews-Tsukihime>Tsukihime. They have no relation at all.

I tried it, and didn't like it, either. Because of the reasons you stated, and because I happen to think that Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is the greatest fighting game of all time, largely because of how simple it is and how it's totally unsuitable for tournament play.

Calamity Trigger is the start of the story.

There is also a Japanese novel-style thing, called project zero, which although takes place before calamity trigger should be experienced AFTER continuum shift as it deals with concepts that only are introduced in continuum shift as well as those new characters. There should be translations of it online.

Lastly, with the Japanese limited edition of continuum shift there was a drama CD which is basically like a radio program of the character's voice actors acting out various funny anime-style scenes and although not canon by any means is absolutely hilarious. Jin makes his own personal Ragna robot...I'll just leave you with that as a last thought :p.

You should have used beginner mode man. If you're not into deep gameplay or skilled at fighters, beginner mode is there for you, just you, it's the way for you to have fun with the game.

If you think MK3 is the greatest ever (I like it as well) you should try my favorite fighting game. Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe. As simple as three. It's graphics are amazing, aaaaaand they also introduce some new mechanics that at least in the opinions of my friends make it totally unsuitable for tournament play yet we play it all the time for fun. Personally I'd like to see some MK vs. DCU tourneys but hey that's me.

In fact before BlazBlue it had the most robust story mode that I thought was excellent (both sides of it.)

Also thanks for all the story advice on BlazBlue gang, I think I can piece it together online now.

I'll give it a shot, I am a bit concerned about there being new mechanics, though. The thing I liked about MK3 was it kind of had none.

MK vs DC is seriously one of the worst fighters ever made...not just tournament-wise either...i'd play a dbz fighter before touching that lmao.
