There's not much you can do to protect yourself against a DDoS attack, since they are basically attempts at overloading your servers connection with extreme amounts of incoming data. In a way, they are the internet equivalent of egging someone's house, they can cause a whole lot of inconvenience for the target and those wanting to use the service the target provides, but they are also fairly harmless from a security point of view. A DDoS attack doesn't gain access to secure systems, it just makes sure no one else gets access either, even legitimate users.Aiddon said:
This isn't a hack, it's just someone (or probably many people) sending tons and tons of spoof packets in an attempt to bog down Sony's network. It's pretty common for companies to be attacked like this. All Sony has to do is find the IPs that are sending the spoof packets and set up a firewall rule to block them. Seriously. They ruined a night of fun on League for us last night. We quit our active game then sat there for like 30 minutes trying to figure out what else to do because, as funny as it sounds, League is the one game we all have on our systems and the one game we spend the evening hours playing together on.
