True I'm having PSN issues but it was believed down to a scheduled update that isn't actually due until Monday.

That explains a lot. The pricks ruined a Warsong Gulch AND a Strand of the Ancients game I was kicking ass in.

Sony confirmed they're under attack. pretty irritating stuff, hopefully they can do one soon.

well, looks like Sony's security hasn't really improved that much in the past four years if this managed to happen again. They better get this sorted quicker than last time considering how Infamous First Light and Madden 15 come out on Tuesday as well as the fact that Destiny is two weeks away. Not a good place to be in.

Valve has been DDOSed as well so far minor lag and glitches has been the results in valve hosted servers.

There's not much you can do to protect yourself against a DDoS attack, since they are basically attempts at overloading your servers connection with extreme amounts of incoming data. In a way, they are the internet equivalent of egging someone's house, they can cause a whole lot of inconvenience for the target and those wanting to use the service the target provides, but they are also fairly harmless from a security point of view. A DDoS attack doesn't gain access to secure systems, it just makes sure no one else gets access either, even legitimate users.

I'd believe it. There was no notices about server maintenance from Riot before we started playing a 5 v 5 match and then suddenly all 10 of us were experiencing lag and probably the weirdest I'd seen. Like my ult wouldn't even work but all my other abilities would. I hate these guys. Especially if they are doing it for fun.

Well gotta say I respect these guys, in fact I actually wish I was them, that their lives were mine, I want to speak to them and tell them how great a bunch of people they are... that's the point right? Surely no one would be this big an asshole just for the sake of being an asshole, surely they must be doing this for respect, admiration....

...oh hold on I forgot NO ONE admires these idiots, NO ONE respects them. Well I guess that means they must just be massive arse holes after all then, it really has to be the only explanation?

This isn't a hack, it's just someone (or probably many people) sending tons and tons of spoof packets in an attempt to bog down Sony's network. It's pretty common for companies to be attacked like this. All Sony has to do is find the IPs that are sending the spoof packets and set up a firewall rule to block them. It'll be fixed in a day or two.

Seriously. They ruined a night of fun on League for us last night. We quit our active game then sat there for like 30 minutes trying to figure out what else to do because, as funny as it sounds, League is the one game we all have on our systems and the one game we spend the evening hours playing together on. Luckily it got fixed fast but it was one hell of a buzz kill for us. :(

Don't they have better things to do than DDoS-ing? Really, you won't achieve anything with this.

Manchildren.
They also called in a fake bomb threat on a plane. Not the smartest move.

Eat shit and get arrested.
Should have their pictures forwarded to all doctors around the country, so that next time they go for treatment they get told 'who cares, you're going to die eventually'.

That also explains a lot, I've received a notice that my Blizzard account had been tampered with. Nothing was altered, but it feels like Lizard Squad's just a bunch of idiot Black Hatters looking to spread some shit for the lulz.

Because nothing feels as fulfilling as petty and unmotivated spite, when you're cowardly enough to hide behind a network of slave rigs and the most basic hack job imaginable. DDoSes are the kind of stuff anyone with the proper tools can manage to pull off.

It's not Sony vs Microsoft from these idjits. PSN and XBL are the latest targets. Earlier in the week they claim to be the ones that nailed CCP, NCSoft, couple of other online game servers. Origin from EA also is having a field day with DDoS, Blizzard, SoE (different from Sony PSN) In the crossfire rumor has it ebay.uk had serious problems, now it's to the point of bomb threats about a passenger plane.

It's getting a ton more notice now that it's getting to the two big console networks in the States and the FBI investigating. If it is this dumb as bricks group, their test runs were on the (ahem) smaller servers and networks.

It was kind of surreal on the EvE Forum boards. One player in Russia point blank asked if the connection issue was from U.S. sanctions and that's why 'she' couldn't login.
