The whole point of gore in the game is to exaggerate the gameplay in such a way that doesn't seem like it's simiulating real life or trying to create realism. That would be bad. As it stands today with most games, the ridiculousness of the blood spurting from your enemies is enough to say 'Holy shit, I rock!' as opposed to 'That's not very real...'

If you want realism in gore, go kill a real person. Seriously, the fact that you want to have your games act like you've killed another person sickens me. It's all there for extra effect so that you feel that much more powerful when you cleave through an enemy with your overly large glaive.

Hey, the more blood the better.

It shows how grown up and serious a game is.

Your sarcasm sense is tingling.
You forgot swearing. Swearing a sign of fucking maturity.

Both of you haven't been watching Yahtzee enough...For shame!

Both of you guys forgot gigantic and laughably unrealistic tits. Tits tits tits tits.

It shows that the game is very serious and mature!
I don't want to alarm you guys... but I think you just proved that Duke Nukem 3D is the best game ever made.
Not best, most mature. Like Conker! Ah... there where flower tits in it. You could also blow apart zombie's head and the blood would splatter across the screen. And there were even little baby zombies. And loads of swearing.

Very serious. Very mature.

Ya know, I can take or leave gore in a video game. As a 30yo, I've gorwn up with games that had no graphics at all, to progress to games that had almost realistic appearance and gore, and I have to say that I don't find graphic gore to be a benefit to a game. It is by no means a detractor, but I don't think it is truly necessary to have in order to create a quality game. Quality seems to have been supplanted in the last few years by gore though, so perhaps I'm out of touch.
