For what exactly?

I use Blu Ray for PS3 games and the occasional movie.

DVDs for computer and PS2.

I use DVDs for movies, TV shows etc. mostly because I purchased a lot before Blu Ray came out and the family didn't have a Blu ray player until we got the PS3 at the end of 2009.

And Blu Ray is much more expensive than DVDs at the moment that the increase in visual quality isn't enough for me to bother with the extra money seeing as how I don't have much.

It's the same damn thing, it's both a data storage only with more space and different encoding for Blue-Ray

For Blu Ray I get that really weird problem when the dialogue is super low, so I have to turn it up really loud, but then the action scenes are fucking LOUD.

I hate it.
God I hate this too, but I think it is a problem with movies in general. I have noticed it with DVD's also. Too often do I have to turn up my bose surround sound to hear the actual talking then out of no where it sounds like a nuclear bomb just went off in my apartment.

I like blu-ray. The only thing i dislike is that I bought I blu-ray burner for my pc about a year ago. Then I realized that blank blu-rays are about as much as a normal blu-ray movie. So it was a bad idea. =( They may have come down in price by now though. I don't know.

Well, I just bought the LotR Extended Edition on blu-ray, so yeah, I love it.

But only for the real spectacle movies. Stuff like comedies I buy on regular DVD.

I wouldn't have a Blu-ray player if not for my PS3. It's not worth the additional cost most of the time, but I own a few of my favorite movies on Blu-ray, and then some that I think will be more impressive in Blu-ray format, e.g. Inception, Independence Day, Planet Earth (great documentary series), The Matrix Trilogy, and the most recent Batman movies.

I have DVD, but the prevalence of Blue Ray means I just buy the Blue Ray/DVD combo packs so if DVD goes out of format and Blue Ray becomes king I dont have to repurchase my entire library. Just most of it.

I'm half and half. I have a PS3, so I do get Blu-Ray movies, although some are just not worth it. Just because you can see every flaw on Ricky Gervais' face in The Invention of Lying, BR doesn't make it a better movie than the poo it was. Now something like Star Trek (The 09 one), that was a BR catch.

To be honest, yes, I get my BR movies on how special effects driven it is. There is no other reason to have a drama movie look shinier if you are going to spend more time going "Yay, that persons face looks better" than what is going on in the movie. Hence why I shall get Sucker Punch on BR when it comes out in New Zealand, and Inception on DVD when I can be arsed buying the movie...

I dig DVD myself.

I've let to see a reason to justify re-buying all my DVDs

Basest upon what I've seen of blu-ray in a few electronics stores, the improvement is minor at best, barely discernible. It seems more of a unnecessary gimmick like 3-D.

So it's not really the same thing then is it?

Kinda but the difference between a DVD with let's say the same amount of space as a blue-ray disc is only digital.

DVD, since I have some sort of... hatred towards Blu Ray. I have no idea why. Maybe I just don't see the point in upgrading when DVD works fine (for me atleast)?

I don't buy many movies anyway, but the ones I have purchased recently have been on blu-ray. Of course, they were either the same price as the DVD or cheaper because it was a set of an entire series on blu-ray VS having to buy them on DVD individually. If the DVD version was cheaper though, I'd probably go for it instead, because even if it's not real HD, the PS3 does a nice enough job with upscaling that DVDs still look rather nice.

It's "blu-ray". There is no e.

Not trying to be a dick or a spelling nazi, but for some reason seeing people write "blue-ray" drives me up a wall.

If I can find a something on Blu Ray at a good price(thank you amazon) then I'll get it, otherwise I end up with DVDs. Better still is the Blu Ray, DVD, digital copy versions that some things come out in.
