I am a Star Wars Fan I grew up with the movies (The REAL ones), and one thing I've heard over and over again is how Boba Fett was fucking awesome. Now yes he's a bounty hunter and bounty hunters are awesome, but he didn't do anything, he had like three lines, never used any of his weapons, and the only thing he actually did was take Han Solo to Jabba's place, and then he got eaten. So would someone be so kind as to tell me why our good Mr. Fett is so popular?

Disclaimer: I am not saying that he sucks, I mean hands down he has my favorite costume in the franchise. It's just that I don't understand why people love him as much as they do.

He has a jetpack. I think that goes along way towards explaining this.

He just exudes a kind of cool menace, and he looks kinda mysterious with the helmet and cape thing.

Probably because we see so little of him we are allowed to think up our own backstories.
I guess the mystery of his character is what people love.

Sometimes, less is for the best. Kind of like Portal. Little story involved, but it was fantastic.

Just my 2 cents.

I have no idea, but he still is awesome looking.

He also kind of talk back to Vader in the Empire Strikes Back. Something many people were too afraid to do.

It's the helmet, all in the helmet.

This guys pretty much sums it up. Boba Fett was the coolest-looking character in the original trilogy, and he was a bounty hunter. Those two traits guaranteed him some degree of popularity.

Most of it is the Helmet. Gives a very strong sense of mystery and curiosity about his past and who he really is. That and he has a blaster on his wrist and a jetpack. It's the same reason people love Predators. Mysterious, dangerous and awesome kit.

I preferred Jango. That's entirely due to Star Wars Bounty Hunter, the only Star wars game I've ever enjoyed... even though I sucked major balls at it.

It was the jet-pack plus twin blasters for me. Nearest thing to a space cowboy I felt.

He's more of a cult character that gained a lot of depth later in the series I think, as the expanded universe came to be and all the different games and movies were released, he got a bit more back story. He was usually a boss/playable character in the games too. I recall fighting him in Dark Forces, and he was not fun.
Ever play "Shadow of the Empire" on N64? He was a fucking bastard in that, I've owned the game for over 10 years and I still can't beat him.

I don't NEED a story to like characters, my favorite character Han Solo had no backstory and he was still awesome. My confusion comes from that fact that Boba Fett NEVER DID ANYTHING in the movies, and yet he has one of the largest cult fanbases I've ever seen.

I'm not talking about story, I'm saying people probably like him so much because they see very little of him. I merely used Portal as an example of "less is more".

I'm with most of the posters here, the helmet, the rocket, the style. He just "looks" cool as hell.

Basically this. Boba Fett looked cool and was basically a Bad Ass Normal [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BadAssNormal]. He was just way to cool to not like.
