Hands down.
Sorry but who? I don't remember anyone named IG88, although I assume it's a droid.

Explains all?
Cool picture but a bottle of Captain Morgan Rum with Sharpie pen all over it explains nothing unless I missed somthing.

He's more of a cult character that gained a lot of depth later in the series I think, as the expanded universe came to be and all the different games and movies were released, he got a bit more back story. He was usually a boss/playable character in the games too. I recall fighting him in Dark Forces, and he was not fun.
Yeah pretty much, I'm pretty sure George Lucas was quoted as saying that IF he knew Boba Fett would be such a popular character, he wouldn't have given him such a shameful death. But I'm sure as some of you know, he's not dead...well yet at least. Plus the way he was all quiet and cool in the movies, and pretty much talking down to Vader. Plus he just looks...bad ass.

Boba's my favorite character in Star Wars, and always has been since I was a child, and I've read so many books that go on to tell his story. And while IG-88 was pretty bad ass, he's a robot made for killing...I dunno I just don't really care for that.

Edit:

Basically this. Boba Fett looked cool and was basically a Bad Ass Normal [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BadAssNormal]. He was just way to cool to not like.
Spot on, it's why I've always hated Super Man and love Batman. He's killed Wookies, and even Jedi.

Probably because we see so little of him we are allowed to think up our own backstories.
I guess the mystery of his character is what people love.

Sometimes, less is for the best. Kind of like Portal. Little story involved, but it was fantastic.

Just my 2 cents.
I don't NEED a story to like characters, my favorite character Han Solo had no backstory and he was still awesome. My confusion comes from that fact that Boba Fett NEVER DID ANYTHING in the movies, and yet he has one of the largest cult fanbases I've ever seen.
I'm not talking about story, I'm saying people probably like him so much because they see very little of him. I merely used Portal as an example of "less is more".
True, Portal doesn't have much in it, no story, no conflict, and until the very end just a bunch of puzzles, but you still did stuff. I mean if Boba Fett at least shot someone with that cannon looking thing he carries I might understand, but for almost 80% of his existance on screen he just stands there and might as well be a cardboard cut out.

True enough.

His popularity could also have been caused in him appearing in games, like Battlefront and a few others who's names escape me at the moment...

He's Boba the Fett. His backpack's got jets. He bounty hunts for Jabba the Hutt to finance his 'Vette.

I think he was a robot bounty hunter. Though I only know that because he was a boss in an old Star Wars game I used to play in which he repeatedly killed me with purple balls of doom.

Its just one of those weird things. Why is Boba Fett popular? I know a few people who felt they could project someone they wished they could be into the then-largely undefined character.

But otherwise I got nothing.

He's got a blaster, a jet-pack (with an RPG attached to it I might add), an awesome shoulder cape, helmet, gadgets, and a mutha-fuckin flamethrower!

It's because he's an awesome bounty hunter, who wears a neat costume and doesn't afraid of Han Solo. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

He is just a very cool character, but a lot of the love for him probably comes from the EU, where he gets a much bigger role, and turns into one of the coolest most badass characters.

Until Karen Traviss got her hands on him...

He looked cool, the very limited amount of dialogue he had sounded cool, he could back talk to Vader without fear and with any consequence's... pure bad ass. I mean, the whole look of him equals bad-assed.

Ah, that was Shadows of the Empire for the N64. Both it and Fett were a pain to fight. You basically had to spam all your missiles to defeat them.

And yes he was a robot bounty hunter. He was with that group of bounty hunters in ESB.

It's the helmet, all in the helmet.
He's a jetpack-wearing, awesome-helmeted space-cowboy mercenary. And he's green. That is not awesome and popularity-deserving to you?

I just used a whole lot of hiphons (Or however you spell it, my computer won't spell-check it).

On topic, he just looks cool. He died within seconds, but he looks so effing cool! So we like him.

I suspect it's just a cult thing. Some people probably just decided to create this joke worship thing one day and it grew from there.
