Book(s) that would translate well to games.

It's been proven to work better than adapting one to a movie as The Witcher series has shown us. So what series of books or stand alone novel do you think would work best as a game?

Make sure to write what said book or series is about as well.

My vote: The Dark Tower series

Series about:
Gunslingers questing across a post apocalyptic western esque world (while occasionally traveling to different universes) in order to stop a manic demon from destroying The Dark Tower a.k.a the apex of goddamn existence. Lots of fantastical elements(demons, ancient evils, magical artifacts, prophecies, etc.) Bunch of references and cameos from other Stephen King books, plenty of action, complex characters, and quite possibly my favorite protagonist of all time.

As a game:
Red Dead Redemption meets Lord of the Rings need I say more?!... What? Well o.k. then fine... 3rd person shooter as a prequel before the fall of Gilead. Make it semi open world ala Witcher with branching story lines as different gunslingers on both sides of the conflict as they traverse In-World.

What has your vote?

Any Gaunt's Ghosts book... I wouldn't even mind a hash-up of multiple stories.

I don't think I need to put any justification into that answer, whatsoever! I mean it's got everything to be a decent 3PS.

In a similar vein, the Eisenhorn trilogy, maybe even Ravenor, but playing as a guy in a floating wheelchair could be a bit weird.

A game based on the alex rider series might work well. Non-lethal stealth based gameplay with some decent vehicle/skis/parachute sections and such.

Also, anybody read black prism? An open-world RPG with Bethesdas creation engine with that sorta magic system and lots of boat travel would be pretty good. Maybe have players pick 2/3 colours at the start.

The Inheritance Series. Pretty much similar to Skyrim with ancient words of power and chosen ones and all that.

Well Ready Player One is set in what would pretty much be the best video game ever. I'd pay loads to get my hands on it.

Night Angel trilogy.

Although, having a stealth build in Skyrim, with Nocturnal's invisibility, the Shadow's invisibility, and a glitch that gave my eyes blue flames felt pretty close.

Sadly... this is yet to happen.
So... I shouldn't bother with the current one? 'cause I was close to buying it yesterday...

Anyway, OP:

"The Elves" by Bernhard Hennen and all their sequels, prequels and interquels would make a fantastic story-driven single player RPG. Since the titular Elves reincarnate until they fulfill their destiny, I'd say a story centered around previous incarnations of known characters would probably work best.

That would work if they managed to make the story as good as it is in the books; which isn't great but better than skyrim's. Now if the made the story better, and less cliche, then it would be awesome.

OT: Metro 2033- oh wait...
(Though personally I preferred the book to the game)

Classic literature, multiple film adaptations; why no game?

O for a Muse of fire, that would ascend
The brightest heaven of invention,-
A kingdom for a stage, princes to act
And monarchs to behold the swelling scene!
Then should the warlike Harry, like himself,
Assume the port of Mars; and at his heels,
Leashed-in like hounds, should famine, sword, and fire,
Crouch for employment. But pardon, gentles all,
The flat unraised spirits that have dared
On this unworthy scaffold to bring forth
So great an object: can this cockpit hold
The vasty fields of France? or may we cram
Within this wooden O the very casques
That did affright the air at Agincourt?
O, pardon! since a crooked figure may
Attest in little place a million;
And let us, ciphers to this great accompt,
On your imaginary forces work.
Suppose within the girdle of these walls
Are now confin'd two mighty monarchies,
Whose high-upreared and abutting fronts
The perilous narrow ocean parts asunder:
Piece-out our imperfections with your thoughts;
Into a thousand parts divide one man,
And make imaginary puissance;
Think, when we talk of horses, that you see them
Printing their proud hoofs i' th' receiving earth;-
For 'tis your thoughts that now must deck our kings,
Carry them here and there; jumping o'er times,
Turning the accomplishment of many years
Into an hour-glass: for the which supply,
Admit me Chorus to this history;
Who, prologue-like, your humble patience pray,
Gently to hear, kindly to judge, our play.

I would love to see Starship Troopers turned into a game. Based off the book, not the movie. You can get rid of all the social commentary, just gimme a power-suit with some jump-jets, hand flamers, and shoulder nukes to go to town on some bugs and skinnies.

The Dresden Files.

Protagonist is a wizard in his late thirties. Plenty of Lore and background. Wizard council, evil wizard council, all kinds of different faeries. Complex Vampire society as well as 3 different types of Vampires. Conspiracies, plots, wars, love, relationships, - Ah fuck I have to read this series again!!!

Percy Jackson

Greek Mythology theme, quest narrative, new powers as he gets more experienced, companions for escort quests or multiplayer...

It's basically a videogame already
