It'd be somewhat interesting to see The Great Tree of Avalon as a game, and maybe The Hunger Games, but I'm totally against books to games in general. Why? Books are story driven, containing a lot of plot exposition and diologue. Games do too, obviously, but if you look at, say, the Halo novels other than The Flood (Which was based off of the game pretty heavily), you can really tell how much more focused they are on plot than gameplay. Even in The Flood, any scene not from the game is thick with plot exposition, and wouldn't make for very good gameplay. Books to game would really need to trash the book, throwing away a lot of the story and inserting much more action, which would really hurt the fans of the books.

Unless you want every game to be a book like Heavy Rain.

I would say Skulduggery Pleasant if any of you had heard of it.
Yay skeletons that shoot fire.
There are many awesome things like that in the four (so far) books, but I think skeletons that shoot fire alone is enough to make anyone buy a game.

If you could any book (or book series) to become a game, which would would you choose?

I would like an RPG based on the DUNE series, but I think it would be very difficult to make a good game based on the series.
I'm pretty sure Dune is already a PC game. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_series#Games.

I reckon the hungry caterpillar would make an awsometastic game!!. :p

All the typical nerd writers would transfer perfectly, I feel.
More Lovecraft, seeing as I really feel DCotE and Sherlock Holmes The Awakened had the atmosphere, if not the gameplay.
More Phillip K Dick. Just thining of his reality bending stories would be great. Playing a Deckard-esque character and having that moment where you suddenly wonder if the character you've been playing all along is actually an android.
The Bourne books would be cool as well, but the movies would influence too much (as they did the Bourne game)
Oh and a Discword RPG would be great. Better yet an MMORPG. Hell, just turn the MUD into an MMO with graphics and it'd be perfect.

I don't really think games go well from book to game though. The other way around works better. The trouble is that when you read a book, there are ideas and images that come to mind. When you force your images on other people you realise that they had their own ideas.

Oryx and Crake, hell yeah! It would be a terrible game. Perhaps when done like Heavy Rain it could be average-ish.

I'd like to see a team-based space shooter in the style of the game from Ender's Game happen. Complete with body parts being frozen when hit and frozen players being used as obstacles to hide behind.

It would be interesting to see an actual 3D space area like that done correctly for a change. None of that 2D space stuff we see too often. Heck, that's the only reason I'm mentioning Ender, if you've read it, you'll get what I mean by that.
Exactly what I was thinking.
