When I read "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card a few years ago, I was sure someone would adapt the book for film. Unfortunately I'm still waiting. What book have you read that would make for an awesome movie? Bonus points for director and actor recommendations.
From Wikipedia:

Orson Scott Card released the latest of his author-written screenplay adaptations to Warner Brothers in May 2003. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were later signed to write a new script, working closely with director Wolfgang Petersen. Card later announced that he would be writing a new script not based on any previous one, including his own.[14] Following the departure of Petersen from the project and Card's self-described refusal to "condescend to green-screen Hollywood," Card announced in February 2009 that he had completed a script for Odd Lot Entertainment, and that they had begun assembling a production team. I wouldn't say it needs to be made into a movie, but I think The Sword of Truth series would make a great TV series.

I would love to see Halo: Fall of Reach be a movie. Most books, however, I don't want Hollywood anywhere near.

the bartimaues trilogy. Although the whole thinking in two ways at once thing may be difficult to do in cinema.

Hell yes, I loved that trilogy, but making it into a film would probably make it suck.

I used ot think golden compass/northern lights , and the entire trilogy actually, would make a fantastic movie... but god damn did they fuck it up...

I love Paulo Coolho, but since his books are like 90% internal monologue they wouldn't make very good movies... however i think some of them could work really well as an anime series like Brida or The Alchemist. Anime or just cartoons lend themselves much better to stories focused on internal thoughts, since you can use a lot of techniques and imagery that would just look out of place in a live action production. Wouldn't have to be anime, could be a cartoon as well, its' just western cartoon dont normally do mature (and not the blood and sex mature, but sophisticated don't treat your audience like they have half a brain mature) stories in the same way some anime series do.

None of them.
Just about every movie adaption disappoints people and reading a book is so much better.
this though that being said, and I know im gonna get the hypocrite card, I always wondered what Gladiator by Peter Wylie would be like as a movie. If I was ever gonna make a film it would be that.

Bunnicula.

What? It would work great as an animated movie. And I mean ANIMATED, not CGI-merging-with-the-real-world crap.

the entire serpent war saga
I hear ya buddy
rift war saga would be epic 2
but serpant war saga was my all time fav ;p
It would take a good long time. Then they would be making The Darkwar as well, and all the branch-off story arcs. That's a good 20 movies at least.

Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising wow what a great book. If done right it would be epic. But it would probably go the way Tom Clancy's Clear and Present Danger went and be utterly unrecognizable to the book.

Even though movies usually bastardize a good book, I'd love to see the Dark Tower saga on the big screen.
