NOOO!

Maybe, maaaybe, if producers started to realise they do NOT need to try and cram a whole book into a hour and a half to two hour long video feed. I am still pissed that they would cut whole sections away from timeless tales. All just to fit inside some time restraint that doesn't need to exist in the first place. I just wonder who thought that restraint up so I can beat them to death with baseball bats.

Even after 'lord of the ring marathons,' where people sat in theatres for the better part of a bloody day they still haven't got the idea that people are WILLING to sit through ten hours of film if it is a epic story. That they WANT every little part to be included into a story, to feel the whole experience of the book, and there is no need to sacrifice even the tiniest of parts for any reason what so ever.

No, instead we will still see all our favourite books being turned into nothing more then tripe to feed to the masses who wouldn't know how to pick up a book, let alone read one!

PS: Yes, I am still frustrated that Tom Bombadil was removed from the movie, a minor roll he might have played (in that story) but he was my favourable character. Not to mention that every major struggle the Hobbits went through on their own where probably some of the best parts in the series, showing the strength these 'simple' creatures can have when they aspire to greatness.

No, now many seem to think ever Hobbit needs a elf or human to hold their hands....

I'd also like them to make another attempt at Hellblazer, just make sure Keanu Reezes isn't with 100 miles of the studio or any cinema that's playing it so it can't be tainted.
They are actually making a Constantine sequel with Reeves.

I know that it's pretty much an impossibility that a movie could ever be as good as the book it was based off of. However, it could make a good book more widely known, therefore getting more people to look into it, so I don't mind all of these books being turned into movies. Besides, who doesn't have a favorite scene they'd love to see on a big screen rather than just in their heads?

I know it was already made into a tv series, but it would be cool to see the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Besides, Robert Downey Jr. as Harry Dresden would be fantastic.

Also, the War of Dreaming books, Last Guardian of Everness and Mists of Everness, by John C. Wright would make pretty cool movies, if a bit gruesome. I doubt it would come off very well, though, because of all the jumping around between the different characters and whatnot

anything by H.P. Lovecraft that hasn't been done only if the HPLHS ((H.P. Lovecraft Historical Scociety)) and LionsGate teamed up, though

The Legend of Drizzt series by R.A. Salvatore
I would actually like to see a TV series on Sci-Fi Channel on these books. Start with the first ones when Drizzt in born. Move up through the Underdark era, through the Crystal Shard and up until the most recent books. This would kick ten tons of ass in a million ways. I actually don't think that a movie would do the character any justice at all.

I say that a well done TV series is better for a book than a movie simply because you can make as many episodes as are necessary to cover all of it without being accused of milking it >_>

on topic I would say that Enders Game could be really good if done properly.

Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks.
It's more action oriented than his other books and there is enough for a film. Humour, a love interrest etc.
I don't know, i could never get into it... Perhaps it gets better, i'll give it another shot when i get home. But i think Matter perhaps, although it would confuse some people, "Is it sci-fi? Is it Fantasy?"

Running with the demon (Brook's Shannara series)

If they took from the book directly, it would essentially be the Western version of the Persona videogames... except you're a 14 year old girl with a pet demon wolf, and a middle-aged homeless Demon hunter. Instead of that anime stuff...

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, on the condition that it turns out better than the Hitchhiker's Guide movie.

OOOOHHHH ...... I forgot about that .... That would be SWEEEEEET.

The ones I have wanted to see since I was a little kid are the Martian Tales of Edgar Rice Bouroughs.

which I hear are on again ... in the on again off again saga that is the industries attempts to make them ... I hope it doesn't suck, but if it does,it will give everyone that has read them the chance to complain about how much better the books were and inhabit the moral high ground we readers seem to believe belongs only to us.......... and cyclists.

The Andromeda Strain was adapted to film in 1971, actually. It was also adapted to a mini-series in 2008...

Both of these novels are now movies.

This would be impossible as there are to many introspective scenes in the book. Like all the time that Hiro spends with the Librarian. That is fun to read but would be boring as shit to watch. I would say that the Cryptonomicon or Zodiac woulkd make better movies.
Fair enough, it's been a while since I read it so I've forgotton most of it, I just remember it was really good

It was good. We fans might be willing to watch Hiro talking to the Librarian about Sumerian mythology and history. But the average person would die of boredom.

None of them.
Just about every movie adaption disappoints people and reading a book is so much better.
I'd just like to point out that film (ie the motion picture) and the written word (ie books, novels etc.) are two completely different mediums and that something will inevitably be lost when trying translate from one to the other. Also what works in one medium will not necessarily work in the other medium so things also will need to be changed up a bit to make the story fit the new medium.
Also I don't think fans really have a leg to stand on when it comes to bastardizing, esp not those who write fan fiction.
