@FletchTalon::What did you think of Chronicles of Athena/The other Vin Diesal game? (I havn't played them-Not a console fanboy :p)
Otherwise the only book-->Game that I can think of (The Witcher) was actually a great success! Especially with the latest release of the game improving the dialogue, graphics and a number of other elements with the game. I played the original- Still think very highly of it. People slag on it for having the softcore porn cards...That's fair enough. That *is* a mediocre element of the game. As well as the combat being uh....repeditive to say the least. The story wasn't half arsed though!!!
I wouldn't have a clue to be honest, I really don't have a huge amount of experience with games that are out there. The movie games = crap thing is from experience (though I have found exceptions to the rule) but beyond that I generally play a lot of random stuff, anything mildly "popular" tends to be Nintendo stuff.

The Dresden Files.

Vampires, Werewolves, Wizards, Gangsters... er... Chicago?

It could be an awesome open world game and Jim Butcher could put together an awesome storyline

AMEN!!!!!!!!!! Heartily second this suggestion!!!!!!

"The Road" by Cormac McArthy
Don't you think it would be really drawn out and (inevitably predictable) I mean the suspense was what made the book so good and now we will already know...
Nah, you can leave the kid out of it, or you can just make it a serious challenge to keep him from all the bad guys...

I would like to see Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series made into videogames. But I read an interview with him once, and he said that he wouldn't allow it. :(

Books are very hard to make into games without having extensive s/mp content. But, a book that I'm writing, but have had writer's block with for over a month now because no-one on the internet gives a shit , but yeah, that would be totally awesome as a game.

Discworld, as long as it isn't based on a specific novel, but just in the Discworld universe in general. Some sort of rpg perhaps?

I know there were a couple of point and click games on the pc, but they weren't very good, and that was AGES ago

Left 4 Dead 2: Waiting 4 Godot.

(Yes, I have used this joke before).

Pulling it off would be the single greatest achievement in the history of gaming.

All the books by David Gemmell. One problem would be that since all the characters are so awesome, the difficulty would either be stuck at insanely hard or insanely easy

It would be awesome to play as Tenaka. (I have only read the two first books)
