So some of the preliminary reviews have started to roll hot off the press for Borderlands and while its hard to tell now because there are only like 2 reviews out there some first impressions from Playstation University is that this game is better than Fallout 3. While its impossible to tell this early obviously, if the game does match up to Fallout 3 or beat it with its fast paced RPS style, i think we could be looking at GOTY nods...

It's not like Fallout 3. At all. The only comparison is the wasteland feel and the rpg elements. Other than that they're completely different, they don't play anything like each other. Why people keep comparing them is beyond me.

I haven't seen any reviews yet (or played the game) so i can't say. But I'm seriously thinking about buying borderlands.

Edit: I've read one review which gave it a 8.5, they described it just as it's been advertised, as a Diablo with guns.

they said the co-op rocked, there were tons of guns, and it took them 22 hours to beat it.

People like to compare stuff, it's in their nature. There's probably people comparing oranges and space shuttles out there.

I do agree that these games shouldn't really be compared though. I'm picking up Borderlands next week, but from what I've seen so far, they're quite different.

I'll have to wait till I could consider it GOTY material.
But if it is better the Fallout 3 then my social life might have to be put on hold for a couple of months.
Can't wait to see the Metacritic average.

Well Borderlands looks a hell of a lot more fun than Fallout 3 was in my experience. It'd have to be pretty horrible to be more boring than Fallout 3 was so yes. Borderlands > Fallout 3.

I love Fallout 3 and I'm the 360 admin in a group and I can't honestly see why people are comparing the two
Apart from the rpg element and the wasteland styled atmosphere, I can't see why the two are bieng compared
One is gritty and realistic, the other has a cartoon cell shaded graphics
The other has a single played mode only, the other has a 4 player online co-op
I hope it's as good as Fallout 3 but it isn't the same

Bullcrap. Fallout 3 is an FPS with RPG elements. They both have FPS mode, both have a lot of RPG elements even including damage and health points. Oblivion has more RPG than Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 is Fallout + Oblivion. But with a lot of FPS from Oblivion.

Borderlands is Hellgate London + Fallout. FPS + RPG + post-apocalyptic setting.

I liked Fallout 3 but I have a serious need to play Borderlands... so much I joined the Borderlands group on here. Plus there are places in Fallout that I refuse to play over again.

As I understand it, Borderlands is a cell-shaded FPS which is set on another planet and not after a nuclear war. As such the link with Fallout 3 eludes me.

You're insane, man! Fallout 3 was, first and foremost, an RPG. That's what I'd like to think anyway, because it makes for a disgusting FPS...among the worst, in fact.

Personally, the only time I would compare stuff if it actually applied. I Fucking hate it when they compare stuff that are very different, like Call of Duty, and Operation Flashpoint.

I may use a comparison if they are quite different.

But comparing stuff just to have something to compare it too is like comparing Maxfield Parish to Norman Rockwell.

Maxfield Parrish
http://www.artsycraftsy.com/parrish_prints.html

Norman Rockwell
http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=yfp-t-701-s&va=norman+rockwell+paintings&sz=all

You can see why people might compare them, but yuo can also see how different they are.

Yes, an RPG where you can just screw the RPG elements and shoot without using the VATS.

1. First Person Perspective.
2. You have guns and you shoot with guns.
3. You must even RELOAD like in an FPS game.
4. You don't need VATS if you treat F3 as an FPS game.
