It occurs to me both games seem to be compared to each other. Whilst not being anything like the other. I would have used Fallout New Vegas but I shall use the game it was compared to during that period of time. What makes people think that one is better then the other? Tell me your opinion of the games or of what the reason is for comparing two very unlike games.

Personally I don't get the comparison between Borderlands and Fallout. Fallout is based upon a story and your own individual role in it, as well as exploration. Borderlands is a shooter with no real story set in a vast location that just happens to be in a wasteland as well.

Agreed. I still thought both were fun though. You would have had to see other forums about it though. It was around A before borderland came out. Just type in borderlands vs fallout on google and I am sure you will find something.

They are fundamentally different, but they visually resemble each other and before Borderlands came out it was pretty much described as Fallout with vehicles.

I liked Fallout despite the bugs and hated Borderlands. It made potentially interesting characters and instead has you talk to a toaster or bulletin board 90% of the time and other then that its just grinding and shooting people.

I won't call you an idiot for liking Borderlands (if you do) it just really isn't my kind of game.

Fallout is an Action Adventure Archetype, Borderlands is an Action RPG - They do not need to be compared for the same reason you dont compare Grand Theft Auto to Halo -- Even though people have.

But for some unfathomable reason ill go along with this shenanigan.
Fallout = Open World and Non Linear
Borderlands = Confined World and Linear

Therefore its a matter of taste, neither can be better.
I enjoyed Borderlands more though, mainly because NV was practically Fallout 3 in a new setting with less freedom.

Wacky crazy vs. More reality crazy.

Borderlands is sort of a brutal comic, fallout is more of a gritty Graphic novel affair. I'm pretty sure there is an article on here about how Borderlands was originally going to be a lot like fallout but they realised it would be retarded to make fallout: Lite in the wake of Fallout: Classic (It's a loose metaphor and I know it isn't perfect).

I don't really know why these two games are compared. Other than the "Vault" in Borderlands, which you never really get to see anyway, and the post apocalyptic setting, there isn't much else that is similar.

I like them both.

I agree. That's why I was wondering if you knew why people compared those.
Both games are pretty fun though

I like most games. But it is okay you are entitled for your opinion. But liking a game does not make one an idiot. Liking it better then ANOTHER for no reason or DISLIKING it because you think its.... "gay" makes you an idiot. (not saying you)

I like them both, but it really depends on the mood I'm in. If I just want to kill things and have a chuckle every so often, I play Borderlands. If I want to feel like I'm instrumental to the plot and get immersed into the world, I play Fallout. Although I liked 3 more than New Vegas, but that's another topic I think.

Thought they are frequently compared, they are nothing alike.
However, I'd like to take the view that Borderlands is more entertaining than Fallout 3. That's just how I see it. Fallout 3 bores me senseless. New Vegas, however, is a different story.

In fact, I think Borderlands might have more of the original Fallout games in it. Fallout 3 just felt wrong.

I always thought the creators of Borderlands wanted to make a kind of spoof of the original Fallouts or atleasy nod heavly to it as theirs alot of Fallout referances in the game. A desolate and barren world in search of the 'Vault'.

I'm guessing it mostly has to do with Borderlands use of the term Vault. When I saw that, before I had played the game, I thought it was going to be a Fallout ripoff, since the term Vault and post-apocalyptic world really pretty much does evoke Fallout.

But if you've played both, it's pretty obvious that the idea of the Vault is central to Fallout, and it's just kind of a throwaway thing in Borderlands. Maybe the people that compare the two didn't really play one or the other?

Because people are lazy.

They see a wasteland and a first person perspective and suddenly the two games are in direct competition with each other.
