I'm more than happy with my plumbing, electricity, modern medicine, and internet, thank you very much.

Victorian England. Either that or if we could change now to be Steampunk I'd be fine now.

You know what?

Despite all the chavs, idiots, suing culture, Westernisation, 'war on terror', fast food, global warming, and all other forms of bullshit, I don't see any other decade or century or whatever being much better than this one... or, well, the last one, considering its too early to tell how good this decade will be.

While I probably fit in best now, I think I'd be able to cope in a time when being a good soldier meant being the angriest guy with the biggest weapon.

Sometimes I think, "I could really enjoy living through the '60s. I missed it by about 25 years, but there was good music, great cars, slick clothes and the whole sexual revolution thing." Alright.

But then I remember that I kind of like the internet and black people and mid-century America was not good for either of those. So, yeah, I'll stay here.

I'd like to have been born in the 1980's. So I could have witnessed the rise of thrash, black and death metal.

You mean you'd rather live on Shattered Terra after an exchange of relativistic warheads between Earth and the Far Colonies? Cannibalizing to survive until all food energy is consumed and occasionally getting flung into space by the erratic orbit of a wounded planet?

I like this one, thanks.
All the previous ones had a much higher chance of killing me.
I couldn't agree more.
Living in pretty much any era of the past would have a serious negative effect on my life expectancy.

I like this century just fine. It has quite a lot of cool stuff.

Yes

But seriously, I am optimistic that humans will overcome their difference

Women:

I'm a pretty big fan of birth control and women not being ashamed of their bodies and being branded a "hussy" for showing their neckline. I'm also rather fond of the whole armpit/pubic hair/leg shaving thing. What was the Stewie quote?

"Apparently the razor wasn't invented until sometime in the late 80's."

Also, feminism, or more to the point, postfeminism. (More) women do what they want to do now, and not because it's expected of them. I shudder to think of what an 1800's blowjob might have been like, and I can't imagine women had it much better.

Technology:

Say goodbye to your cell, your iPod, your TV (well, I guess we could all do without that) and your computer, and remember that back in the 30's the internet was still a "series of tubes." Also, your car would suck, and there won't yet be any nostalgia to affix to it.

Culture:

I can't imagine knowing all that I know now about alternative, punk, hip-hop, metal etc. and going to a time where none of it had even been conceived. But if I had to, I'd take the 20's over the 30's any day. Fantastic music, crazy sexual dancing, all around good times. Understand, even if YOU were a rich playboy in the 30's, most everyone else would be dirt poor, which means a lot more desperate people and a lot more danger for you. Plus, what if the feds discover your speakeasy? Then you're fucked.

Personally, I'd rather go forward. It may not always seem like it, but the further along we go in this whole human chronology thing, the more relaxed attitudes become towards other people, towards relationships, and towards weird little perverts such as myself :)

I'm pretty sure I'd've been happier as a Viking priest.

Seriously, that culture kicked ass. Waaaaay ahead of the rest of Europe in terms of social policy, and...well, it's ****ing Vikings.
Wait a minute - raping and pillaging is "good social policy?" You must know something about the Vikings that I do not. Please es-splain.

Also, on an only vaguely related note, the descendants of Vikings are immune to HIV.

Well, if I'd lived about 1000 years ago I probably could've had it easier regarding my emotions, seeing how back then I pretty much could've blown off steam by actually killing folks rather than thinking about it and ultimately swallowing my anger.
However, I often find myself actually thinking about how good we all have it in this time, and I'm very, very grateful for that. So no, I don't think I was born in the wrong century, and I look forward to living another good couple of decades before I finally kick it.

I'd like to have been around at the start of Christianity coming into Europe and reaching Britain/Scandinavia. Then I could have gone around burning churches and pillaging the christians. We'd still lose and be forced into conversion, but they'd be met with blood every step of the way!!

I'll stick with now, most notions you have about WANTING to live in an earlier era are gleaned from romanticized images of said era, I'll stick with now thank you.
