Probably already said in this thread but Shao Kahn From MK9 I swear I almost broke my controller over that guy...

I did eventually beat him after figuring out a combo that the AI couldn't seem to decipher but still...
If Shao Khan is the final boss of a Mortal Kombat game, I'm not beating that game. I've never taken down Shao Khan.

Also, I'd like to mention General RAAM from Gears of War. On the hardest difficulty he just instakills you. I don't even know how to damage him. I just kept shooting him for 4 days and finally got lucky. Immediately afterwards, my 360 caught fire and I lost all my saves. Fantastic. I blame RAAM for that, somehow.

The final form of Baal In any disgaea game, Just screw in. An extra 50 hours of so of grinding isn't worth it.

Basically the first time anyone hears about either of the bosses from minecraft.

First, you fight a dragon whose henchmen are about the scariest things to exist in game (which, btw, spawn EVERYWHERE in the boss's lair). He has the power to destroy basically any blocks you can't find inside the end, and you need to shoot down ALL the crystals on giant towers that are healing him.

But that isn't the scary one. No, the Wither is fucking scary to hear about. Firstly, you have to collect three skulls from one of the hardest hitting enemies in the game and also one of the rarest, whose head is a rare drop as well. Once you summon him, he explodes all blocks around him (and any unfortunates in the way) after which he proceeds to fly about while taking potshots at you and anything else living in the vicinity. Oh, also, he passively regenerates. Oh, and he becomes invulnerable to ranged weapons halfway through the fight.

Now if only they lived up to their horrifying descriptions...

Well in my case I have a few stories. First was Belial in Devil Survivor before they made overclocked when fusing good demons was impossible. In Final Fantasy X there was Seymour and his third battle with that whole zombie/full revive crap.
And the most recent one which I beat was the zombie dragon titan in Lords of Shadows. When I saw I just though, "I really have to climb THAT THING? Oh joy."

One of the few bosses i had problems with was actually only due to my own stupidity. It was in Quake 4 the second Phase of the endboss.

I died over and over and over again. So i quit. Then i had a talk about the game with a friend a few weeks later and he told me that Boss is acutally really easy, you just have to shoot that thing at the very top.

Jeah.. go figure i was to stupid to LOOK UP and kept wondering while shooting that bastard dealt no damage to him. Jup.

Death in Castlevania. Or just any boss in Castlevania, for that matter. That crab guy in Order of Ecclesia. Sorry, I've been playing a lot of Castlevania recently :).

i dont generally play games that have boss fights, but a few off the top of my head...

the Draug from Witcher 2, the last two bosses from Outland, several of the bosses from Rayman Origins, some of the bosses from Dead Rising, every boss but the last one from Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and those stupid quicktime event boss fights from Far Cry 3.

Matador from Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne... The first time I met him, he raped me in it's first turn, before i could do anything... "Ok, this is probably a boss fight you had to lose and the story will go on like in every other..." Sees game over screen... "DAF**********************CK?" Then a massive 1-2 hour grinding began and after I could survive the first turn, He increased his agility to the max and made himself impossible to hit with physical attack and were resistant to every magic element... That was the point i started the game over again and developed my MC to beat that MF, only to realize that most of the game's boss fight was this hard...

Another one from the SMT series is Commander Gore. He has around 15000 hp and SMT games has very low damage numbers, so i did around 300 damage with my MC. He had a physical attack that hit randomly between 3-5 times, dealing MASSIVE damage and killing at least one of my demon in every turn. Man, i was the happiest people in the world, when i saw his HP indicator going red after hitting him for 10-15 minutes, but then... HE F**CKING HEALS HIMSELF TO MAX HP!!! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

That's SMT for you, baby...

I would say Nightmare from Metroid Fusion, but someone already listed that blight upon my psyche, so I'll list the second blight; SA-X. This is including all the time building up to it, the chases, the eventual battle that occurs...

Those two things always makes me want to throw down my GBA and refuse to pick it up, although SA-X more-so than Nightmare, simply because the music and build-up for it was immense.

And since everybody else has listed a couple from the first Devil Survivor, let's list some from the second game. :D
Like Dubhe and Megrez, these two were the bane of my existence when I first came across them. Granted, I haven't finished the whole game, so there may be some others waiting to sink their claws into my sanity, what little remains...

Easily the Four Kings, from Dark Souls.

Pretty much every other boss in that game was so well designed. Whenever I died, I felt like I could do better, I just hadn't been good enough on my last attempt. The four kings though... they were different. I know some people had no issue with them, but the way I built my character made them a nightmare.

In addition to making me nauseous as all hell while fighting them (the abyss was cool, but the eye-fuckery it caused was horrible), I never felt like I could do better, or change my strategy at all. I was limited to one single way of fighting them, and could only win if they chose not to screw me over with a ridiculous chain of abilities.

I love Dark Souls, but I sincerely hope DS2 does not have a boss similar to those assholes.
I didn't have trouble with them but I agree that battle was horribly designed. Melee focused characters don't need to use any strategy. I put on the havel's armor, two handed my strongest weapon, and just hammered the attack button. Beat them in under a minute. Very unsatisfying

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Psychonauts. That entire Meat Circus section was a nightmare. Hats off to anyone who actually beat it. I got way too frustrated by it and quit

FFXIII Ochu You have 3 options. 1. Spam death till it works (will probably die a lot). 2. Beat game and grind the shit out of everyone then try and fail to defeat him then try option 1. 3. Die like a punk *****.

Also from Kingdom Hearts I never beat kurt Zisa or Phantom because at least you can fight the way you are used to against Sephiroth. With KZ it's I hope you don't rely on magic too much (learned to love cure and save items to restore mp so I could cure more) and Phantom is I hope you like whittling cause there will be a lot of it and hope you have internet or a friend to tell you why you keep dying in the first minute (I didn't have either back then).

When I first played DA:O I didn't think it was hard at all I beat Redcliffe and the forest just fine then I met the broodmother, then the dragon, then I saw the Fade. I might have cried but it's mostly a blur.

Fighting games are pretty bad with them last bosses but I'll keep it to just 3. As mentioned Azreal... Fuck Azreal's cheap teleporting and blocking during attacks ass, Alpha 152 (specifically from DOA4, DOA5 was fine)... fuck her and her cheap teleporting ass and inconsistent super strength grabs/counters, and finally fuck night terror from Soul Calibur 3 story mode the boss was hard enough as is but there is no way to find it without a guide and since I'm terrible at fighting games in general (which makes all three of these guys more frustrating) the never losing before reaching him is nearly impossible... and he starts with a QTE that if you fail takes 60% health and puts you near the edge plus unlike the other 2 night terror is in a ring out stage but you literally cannot ring it out it will just fly back in at least the other 2 have an excuse for why, you can't no ring-outs at all.

All of these bosses are bullshit.

Titan Hardmode from FFXIV:ARR

it's not even titan that is the problem, it's the server being INCREDIBLY unforgiving.

the FFXIV:ARR servers only check your movement 3 times a second, essentially giving everyone a constant lag of 333ms, his abilities for DPS and healers to avoid are: a 1s cast time AoE which almost always 1shots you, a 1s cast time AoE line that knocks you off the arena (and a knockoff is "you're done for the rest of the fight, you can't be rezzed"), and time bombs that you need to avoid (also 1 shots)

all of those abilities are 1s cast time (except bombs), and with the server's "lag" they are shortened to 0.666 seconds, the servers are ALL in america, so europeans all have the additional lag.

oh. and if a single player out of the 8 dies over the 8 minute fight, that's it, you're done, you won't kill him in time.

and he's needed to get your relic (ie, the requirement for the BiS weapon) and access the binding coil of bahamut (the endgame raid which is actually EASIER than titan until the last boss)

after the 30th fruitless try, I decided "fuck this" and just paid people in full BiS gear to carry me through.

anyone who is able to complete that clusterfuck of a battle, I salute you (you masochists)

fuck this green, fireball-throwing, flaming aura asshole version of the hulk!!, I spend more than a week chasing his green arse all over New York City and then he goes pushes a billboard off a building trapping 3 NPCs under it and each of them have timers til they die or something, so while I'm trying to save them by doing a "push a certain button rapidly" he's throwing fucking fireballs at me and I can't dodge them because I'm trying to save people and if I move I got to start again and it's either I end up dying or one of the NPCs does because my fingers are starting to hurt and the last one is often different and then the web crawler suddenly thinks I wants to off somewhere [like this in the video at 4:30-4:50] and I gotta chase his green arse all over again, Fuck. This. Fucking. Stupidly Hard. Story. Mission. and Fuck. Ultimate. Green. Goblin!!!!

I'll echo Babel. Such a pain in the ass boss fight, made worse because I'd realized that the route I'd picked (Naoya's) isn't the good ending. For some reason the game wouldn't let me pick the Song of Hope ending, even though Haru was still alive, and I just couldn't stomach Amane's ending.

I will kill you with all my hopes and regrets!

I've not played Final Fantasy X since.
I remember that guy the first time I fought him. I also remember the second time, in which I had done a ridiculous level of grinding and so was able to blast him with Holy and Flare.

Of recent memory, the Queen of Time in Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within. Though everyone praises it, I personally never got used to the game´s combat system so she was just too much. When I got to her, it was like 4 hours of constant "F* this", ragequitting, "I got so far, I´m not gonna leave just before the final boss", retrying, and so on over and over again. Finally I beat her using an exploit.

Also, generally, bosses where one boss battle is immediately followed by another, usually without any saving option or checkpoint between the two. I don´t think I´ve played a single game where I would consider this an interesting extra challenge, only bad design.

I feel ya my three most irritating of bosses in fighters (of late) are Alpha (DOA4) Seth (SF4) and EX Saiki (KOFXIII) the last one would be the most irritating if not for the generous continue handicap feature I mean seriously he can grab you from fullscreen and just locks you down im sure there must be something you can do but I never figured it out usually you can tell what bosses are gonna do but here shit just happens and then your dead.

Alpha and Seth just irritated the hell out of me they are so cheap and I hate their design just a stupid silver blob creature and ofc the worst thing about these bosses is if you beat them then you have to do it all over again in another 8 rds or so anyway. Im so glad DOA5 removed boss fights its a much better game anyway and that just made it more so.

I remember Night Terror im pretty good (or was) at SC so had no real trouble getting to him then he had me on the ropes as I failed the stupid QTE but I managed to ring him out and was like hell yeah annnnnd he flies back on like the cheap SOB he is and killed me. Gill was also like that in SF3 first time I killed him after what seemed like hours (wasnt but I suck at 3rd strike) and he just regens and gets back up again I dont know if its random but the next time I made sure to finish him with Chuns super and he stayed down then.

Also not really boss fights per se but the score attack mode in Persona 4 Arena just made me go nope hell no and stop I could never get past Yukiko I only managed to beat her once and could never get near her again. I have seen vids of the others though like Chie killing you in one hit same with Elizabeth (who is insane in this mode) and of course Mitsurus and Yus insanity i.e they hit you = you are likely going to die.
