I've played through this game about 6 times now, and every time I reach the Landsmeet, I still wrestle with whether or not to kill Loghain. Sure he's a paranoid psycho who potentially had your family murdered or enslaves depending on your background, but he's also a pretty sympathetic character and he gets some truly spectacular lines all delivered by the supremely talented Simon Templeton. Plus, after reading the tie-in novels, he's even more likeable. If only sparing him didn't drive equally likeable Alistair into despair.

Radec in Killzone 2 killing Helghast is saddening enough SPOILERS!!!!! but killing the one that finally put those last few bullets in Templar thats just wrong.

Mario series Bowser seriously hes really awesome and Mario REALLY isnt i always hoped Bowser would win one day well i suppose thats why they created super smash bros:)

Sinclair in Bioshock 2 because I felt he was more sympathetic towards your cause than Atlas or Tenenbaum in Bio 1 (Tenenbaum was really out for her survival and for the sisters survival and about her guilt in their creation) He had more personality than the either of them and well I said it...he was SYMPAthetic not EMPAthetic

Maybe harvesting little sisters in bioshock because when you're in the safe house 2/3 of the way through the game and all of the saved sisters say "Don't look at him, he's a bad man" it packs a visceral punch.

Alma from F.E.A.R.

Not that you ever kill her, but I sort of feel bad opposing her considering that she's basically a product of abuse.

*SPOILER* Hes not a boss but Sinclair in Bioshock 2........ he was you only friend..
appart from that anyone who isnt me deserves to die :)
DAMMIT! I hated that in the game..... He was SO awesome!

OT: I felt bad when you killed Margaret and Alice in No More Heroes 2. Alice was because she really didn't want to kill you, and Margaret was just so cool.
Aside from them, Axel from KH2. But you didn't kill him so I was all "YAY!" But then he killed himself so I was all "aww..."

EDIT: Glados. She was just so FUCKING EPIC! I was PISSED when you had to kill her. Until I heard the song anyways.

I was dreading having to kill the hot ninja chick in No one lives forever 2. Seeing as how your character will violently chop through her (equally attractive) underlings without issue, I was somewhat relieved when the game let her off the hook.

Isn't it funny how the double standard works...I wonder if any female gamers give a shit about shooting any one of the thousands of male villains in any game?

The Giant hands playing the drums that you fight against in Ocarina of Time; I can't remember what temple it is so I was unable to find a name - cause I can't remember that either (lol).

Any boss that is just a pair of giant hands; plays drums; and fights you at the same time is awesome - and just plain shouldn't die. Cause, BODILESS HANDS PLAYING DRUMS?!!?!!? How awesome is that!?

For me, beating Selvaria in Valkyria Chronicles was tough. Early on, it was hard to sympathies with her. She was cold, ruthless and calculating with power beyond which any mortal had seen. After you beat her as a valkyria twice, she comes down to earth and becomes somewhat more sympathetic. She has such devotion to Maximillion for what he did to help her that it's the only reason she sacrifices herself at the near end of the game. She owes the man so much, that you feel bad for beating her simply because she was doing her duty to the man she admired.

Plus if you play the DLC, you realize that she's aware of what others think of her and wished that people didn't only think of her as a weapon or something evil. Her powers, even though they were in her blood, were more of a curse and she didn't want them, making you feel even more sorry for her, especially when she kills herself. But at least in the process she takes out the biggest jackass in the game (General Damon).

I felt bad killing copy X in MM:Zero
He was just doing what he thought was right, yet the rebels held him to unreasonable standards and hated him. Oh and people only liked him because they thought he was X.
Keeping in mind that I've played every game in that series besides the first one and therefore may be lacking the full story, somehow I don't think "Value Reploid life beyond that of your toaster" is completely unreasonable.

ovan from the .hack//G.U. series.

he treats you like a dick, manipulates you, even putting your girlfriend(s?) in a coma just to make you suffer...and then you kill him and find out he was doing it all to save his little sister.

also: nelo angelo/virgil from DMC1
