Meh, it isn't too soon but I honestly can't really see how they'll be able to wow anybody but the most hardcore into buying these things, sure the games will look better, load faster and have a few new capabilities but I'd be surprised if they came up with anything that really made people, other than hardcore fans, absolutely have to have these on launch day for full price. I'm really just not sure what they'll be able to do without another gigantic leap forward in tech.
Its an easy thing to make a ton of people want to buy a new console. All you have to do is have Call of Duty come out only on the next generation consoles.
So sad...and yet so very true.

I think I'll skip out this time. I don't think I've been happy with any console game in some time. I'll just stick with indie games on the PC. Many promising games are comming up.

While via the number of years both systems have been out, seems like it is high time for a new system -- I think both of them are releasing some great games and have a lot more to give. I don't need a new system right now (or even a year from now).

Guess we'll see what happens at E3 if they do announce/reveal and from there *when* these things are supposed to be on the market.

I can't wait! We're seeing games smash headfirst into the technical limitations of this generation of consoles, so it just feels like the right time to upgrade. And if you spend a decent but not ridiculous amount of money on a gaming-ready PC today you'll have something that's already a full generation ahead of the PS3 or XBox 360.

I'm fairly certain there will be good backwards compatibility this time around too. This generation has been incredibly expensive to produce games for, and the game developers and publishers will want to continue getting their investments back.

PS4 will not be at E3 2012. The new Xbox may still be shown.

Kaz has said multiple times that the PS3 has a ten year cycle and they will NOT be showing the PS4 at E3 this year.

599 Dollars!

Dammit. I just wish that we could get a homogenized console someday.
You could just buy a computer. You can get a truly excellent computer for $800, and it'll last you longer than any console.

Yes I know. My laptop is where I do most of my gaming anyways. But I still wish for the day where I could play Killzone and Gears of War on the same machine as Dawn of War.

Point taken.

This pissing contest is annoying.

Oh god. I hope Sony is as hilerious as they were during the early days of the PS3. "This is what FF7 could look like if it was bullshit CGI we pretended was ingame and we were never going to remake it!"

I still think the "599" moment was one of the best moments in recent gaming history. Also "Realisitc depiction of fudel japan... Giant enemy crabs... and you erm... hit the weak spot for massive damage" is still just as funny as ever.

Hopefully we'll see a game based on the Wild West where we get to see a Giant Enemy Spider.

The Nintendo DS, iPhone, Xbox Live and Internet flash games have shown games don't have to have processing power behind them to be good. They only need inspiration, innovation and artistic direction. I hope the next generation has some cool new features that make gaming more fun but leave the $100 accessories for professional sport please.

I'm ready for them. New console generations usually bring about a nice dose of fresh new IPs, and a bit of risk-taking.
If the new consoles cost millions to develop for then there will be no risk taking and very few new IPs.
