Thank God someone had the sense to keep Shatner away from any form of creative control over a new series. His books and STV were proof that he should never be allowed to write anything.

We went almost twenty years without a Star Trek TV show before, maybe we just need a little more time before they bring Trek back to TV, and hopefully the "main universe" not that reboot bullshit.

The problem wasn't having a film and a series, the problem was having a mediocre film and a mediocre series.

I don't know if Frakes' and Shatner's offerings were good, but just having a TV show wasn't the franchise's albatross.

Hey! Hey, hey hey. Janeway WAS 3-dimensional.. she was just batshit crazy in 3 different dimensions at the same time, aswell as in two additional dimensions which existed only in the land of technobabble and usually involved a remodulation of the inverse tachyon field!
She also had the unfortunate inability to look at something without turning her ENTIRE BODY to face whoever/whatever she's interacting with.
Seriously. After a while, I started randomly yelling "I'M CAPTAIN JANEWAY, AND I HAVE NO NECK".

I'd love to see a new Star Trek show on television. Let Abrams go on with his new alternate reality in the movies and have a tv show continue the prime timeline.

I don't know about a Trek show run by Shatner. I've read a few of his Trek books and they really aren't the best. I don't know about a Riker focused show either. Honestly, the most appealing thing about his character, in my opinion, is his beard and that Picard called him Number One. If he's the Captain he can't be called Number One.

I think if there's a new show it should be set decades into the future where Nemesis left of. New Enterprise, new crew, all that. Sounds like a smart idea to me, though that my just be because Next Gen is my favorite of the franchise and that's pretty much what they did.

I really enjoyed the latest Trek movie, but I'd really love to see Captain Sisko back on the TV. As much as I loved TNG, DS9 was just pure awesome.

I think they need a new Trek with Patrick Stewart and Avery Brooks and the main characters. They'd chew the hell out of every scene.

"In the Pale Moonlight" is proof positive that DS9 is the high water mark of all the series. It's not just good Star Trek, it's legitimately good television. I have serious doubts that anything else can be brought to the field.

Maybe if shatner and franks tried together they might have had some success.

I'm not sure why poeple hated voyager. I know why people hated "Enterprise" tho.

Anyway, I think the Star Trek title has had it's share of crap, but hey, what hasn't. I would love to see a New Captain, with a new ship, with a new crew, doing new stuff.

Heck maybe even do a series where they focus on the "villians" with like a villian crew cast as the main characters and they can explore why these "villians" are not actually villians but just misunderstood. Villians.

This might be a good thing. There seems to be a new trend in sci-fi shows where everything must be made to appeal to the wider audience, and who could blame them. The problem with that however is that now every show seems to become Battlestar Galactica set in a different universe. It happened with Stargate, would hate to see it happen to Star Trek.

My two pence...

Im a Classic Trek fan. I cant stand the serious ones...I hate dramas, and Im not good with shows that I have to follow a plot for more than about an hour. I like that when I watch the origional Star Trek, it doesnt matter if I saw the episode right before, since each one was usually a stand alone episode. It was a status quo show, only ever gaining and losing one shot red shirts.

Nah, I say let it lie for a decade or two. Star Trek can survive anything so going into hibernation for a while won't hurt it and people's memories will cool with time.

I still don't understand why everyone hated Nemesis so much; I thought it was alright. Villain was kinda cool, heroic death, got to see a final voyage. Sure, it was a bit of a retread of Khan at some points, but I'm okay with that.

Frankly I feel the one reason Enterprise failed was because Rick Berman was overdosing on trying to include everything possible and throwing any heed to canon and consistency out the window. Anyone feel that the reason the latest movie worked so well is because it didn't smell of old socks? Even Leonard Nimoy who is the longest running Star Trek veteran to boot seemed to have new energy.
Nemesis is a good watch, don't get me wrong, but everybody just looks so tired and drawn out.
I am tickled that Johnathan Frakes still has enthusiasm for a new series. Let us not forget that he directed the most popular Next Gen movie, First Contact. I would like to see him come back in some fashion to contribute. Frankly making a series with Titan would be a good avenue, as it would be refreshing to know the timeline we oldtimers grew up with is still around.
Maybe once JJ's second movie gets done, Paramount will be ready to get back into the small screen. But let's don't wait too long, eh?

I just have never been that into Star Trek movies, barring; The Motion Picture, Kahn, and Voyage Home. I really think Star Trek is best as a hour long adventure of the week sort of thing.

I did find the recent Abrams Star Trek movie to be a very good sci-fi action movie, but it was really poor as a Trek movie.

I would love to see a new show, but I would prefer to have a new cast with maybe occasional old cast members as guest stars. Also I would hope that the show would continue in the main timeline and occur after Voyager, keep things moving forward.
