So folks I bought a Wii yesterday from a relative. It did not come with any Retail games but it did come with 2 wiimotes, one with Wiimotion + one without, a Classic Controller, and 2 nunchuks, and a few Virtual console games including Ocarina of time, Paper Mario, Mario Kart 64 and Super Mario 64.

Today I went out and bought myself Super Smash bros Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy cause it was on sale.

Is there any particular gems I should keep an eye out for for the Wii?

I also got a Gamecube Controller and memory card.

I love Warioware: Smooth Moves. You can find it used, and I highly recommend it. It's a great party game, and depending on your tolerance for absurdity, pretty funny.

Monster Hunter Tri ! I don't know how the Online is so long after it'S release, but i remember having HOURS AND HOURS of fun with that game . Since you have the classic controller it's even better !

Other than that depends what kind of games you like. I would also suggest :

Metroid prime Trilogy ( but for the love of all that's holy don't buy MoM )
Kirby Epic yarn ( it's VERY easy but oh so relaxing )
Kirby return to dreamland ( just plain fun )
Donkey kong country ( challenging and fun especially with a friend )
No more heros 1/2 ( Think Kill Bill )
Mario Galaxy 1/2

I unfortunately cannot recommend any of the LoZ games on the Wii because i personally hated them , so take that one with a grain of salt .

The second Galaxy is pretty sweet as well. Xenoblade is also a must. Other than that, I've got nothing. Gotta go back an play my Wii again! :)

If you're into homebrew, the Wii is actually very easy to set up to run unsigned code. Literally the only thing you need is an SD card and a way to get a certain file to it from an internet connected PC. I can't remember the last time I used my Wii to play a retail game, but I use it as a media player that can be hooked up to a standard def TV (most modern options are HDMI only) just about every day.

As a bonus, Nintendo gave up trying to interfere with homebrewers years ago, so it doesn't have the issues with potential loss of online privileges that you get with the PS3 and the 360.

Yeah I already got the Homebrew Channel... Not really sure what to do with it. I just think the icon is pretty and makes me look skilled with my Wii.

Hmmm... Well I'd say Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story are really good, some of the best games on the Wii. If you're a Mario fan you can't go wrong with New Super Mario Bros or Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. Muramasa: The Demon Blade is fun and one of the most beautiful games, not just on the Wii but in general. If you're looking for a Zelda fix I'd definitely go for Skyward Sword or Twilight Princess. And if I were you I'd definitely try Monster Hunter Tri, it really a great experience.

If you want to try some GameCube games I would recommend Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos Origins, Custom Robo, and F-Zero GX, which are some of the best games I've played for any system.

Metroid Prime Collection (The Wiimote actually functions in the FPS environment here very very well after some minor adjusting.

Don't be that way.
Metroid prime collection
There are quite a few games people over look on the wii.
I would recommend Zack and Wiki,Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn,Trauma center, and Maramasa: The Demon Blade.
I'd recommend about 50 more but probably you don't have the money for it.

Xenoblade Chronicles is worth getting a Wii for alone imo other than that the only essentials would be Mario Galaxy (first one only I disliked the second) and the Last Story. There are other ok games but these ones really stood out and made me happy I actually bought a wii.

If you dont have them Zelda twilight princess and Okami are also good (although I have been told this version of Okami is inferior to the ps2 version)oh and little kings story is good and would be rated much higher if it wasnt for the atrocious path finding of your followers.

If you already have brawl, you're already half done! (I kid, but haven't used much of my Wii.)
There were a lot of gamecube games i liked.

You could pick up Super Mario Legend of the Seven Stars for SNES on the online virtual console. It's a great RPG and has made it hard for me to adapt to the paper mario games. (I WANT to like them, i just loved this mario RPG too much.) It's actually either my favorite game of all time, or my second.

Xenoblade is already said, but let me emphasize that you should get it.

The Last Story is also awesome.

Pandora's Tower is quite good.

Metroid Prime Trilogy

With some friends New Super Mario Bros can be a blast.

Resident Evil 4 for Wii is excellent since it allows a lot better aiming than the other versions.

Also Monster Hunter Tri is a game I enjoyed a lot, but it's not for everyone.

Edit: Also Ys Book I & II for Turbografxx is worth playing through.

You (and everyone else saying Metroid Prime Trilogy) do realize that it is $60+ used, if you can even find a copy, right?

I'd recommend Pandora's Tower. If you live in the USA it's not available yet but it is being released within the next few weeks.
