Boulder removed because it was considered offensive.

“It took courage and commitment for the Wisconsin Black Student Union to bring this issue forward and to influence change alongside UW’s Wunk Sheek student leaders,”
Ah yes, courage and commitment to get people to move a rock.

I would not underestimate the commitment required to persuade someone to fork out $50k to move a rock.

Whether it was a worthwhile use of their passion and campaigning time is another matter. But, you know... students.

So proud culture warrior, which outrage-bait subreddit are we copying content from now? At least the underlying story seems factually true this time.

How the fuck does removing a rock fix the present issue of racism on campus?
Now they can't say "let's meet at ni**er rock." Now they can only say "let's meet at that place ni**er rock used to be."

*I have no idea what the rock was called because the article only said that it was a slur, and not what the slur was. I'd be kind of surprised if it was "ni**er rock."

It was called ni**er head. As was the style at the time, the KKK would go around calling any big black rock a ni**er head. As far as anyone can tell, that's what's important about this particular boulder. Some guys came around and started calling it that. So it commemorates the time a bunch of guys called it that.

Not quite as much courage and commitment to decry the passing of a racist landmark though.
WHAT LANDMARK?! It's a fucking rock! I don't care if they move it miles away or shoot it into the sun. It's just a giant rock that was called something that numerous other giant rocks were called back then. There's no special significance to the rock, it has nothing written on it, it wasn't the site of some important moment.

Jesus Christ, Kwak, someone could piss into your mouth and you'd happily drink it if it meant you could say, "Gotcha! ZING!"

WHAT LANDMARK?!
This one.

"The rock had sat at the crest of Observatory Hill since 1925.
...

The rock is a rare, large example of a pre-Cambrian era glacial erratic, likely over two billion years old. It had been designated as a monument on campus in honor of Thomas Chamberlin, a noted geologist who also served as president of the University of Wisconsin from 1887 to 1892.

The plaque honoring Chamberlin has been removed from the rock. The rock will no longer be referred to by this name but rather known simply as a glacial erratic. A new plaque honoring Chamberlin will be placed on Chamberlin Hall."

Would you like to share the rock's name with the rest of the class?
You know the word. Why should he have to say it? It's not a big deal; entirely comparable to when people call him cisgender. You can tell because one is conveniently avoided and the other is cisgender. See? Super straight white male attack helicopters are the true oppressed people in Western society.
