That's so weird. Almost as weird as the name of Lovecraft's cat. Back then I guess anything black was called that. I guess my finding it weird is an indication of how much progress we have made lol.

Also this reminds me when I first moved to the US and was watching the Boondocks (mainly loved the animation style early on, then got hooked to the story and message) and I was very confused about the characters calling themselves that in the same way I would use the word for jerkoff in Greek which can be an insult or a term of endearment lol. Coming in I thought it was just an insult and that it's never applied to white folks but both of those turned out wrong.
