You never had a crush as a kid?Zeckt said:Aren't boy scouts kids and not even active sexually? seriously am I the only one who see's that?
Here in the UK, we had woggles. Feel free to make your own jokes.Thunderous Cacophony said:So are we allowed to make jokes about sashes and ascots? I don't know if I will provoke a shitstorm, but I kind of want to...
I was in Cubs as a kid, the junior version of the Scouts, and I - like many others - left because of the bullying and violence.Vuliev said:Is Scouting for every young man? No. I've seen that firsthand--during my time in Scouting, my troop had a number of guys drop out because it simply wasn't doing anything for them.
Yeah, I am scratching my head over this too. I didn't even know it was a thing.hazabaza1 said:...this only just happened?
Fuck, guys, get it together. Still good to see.
Now, I don't know if all boy scouts are gay, 'cos they can probably tie the knot in like 50 different ways.Fuzzed said:Weird. I always thought that all boy scouts were gay.
Technically they were. But it was a very very strict version of "don't ask, don't tell". And if their sexuallity went public in any way it was out for them. But now is all sunshire and rainbows for everyone.VoidWanderer said:So with gay people joining, will the be changing the uniform?
But in all seriousness, I am surprised that gay people weren't already in the BSA.
Huh.... I was both a scout and an Atheist for a good two years, never was a problem. Although I do live in England where this kind of thing isn't such big deal so... /shrugGennadios said:To my knowledge they still don't allow Atheists into the Scouts, so as far as I'm concerned they're still a bunch of backwards bigots.
Maybe this means the floodgates are open, though?
I think it's the other way around - parents afraid that the gays will catch their precious young kids.SinisterGehe said:How would this ruin scouting? Parents afraid their precious young fragile kids will catch the gay?
It has been a very homophobic organization for years. I remember back when I was a kid I would hear stories of Scoutmasters who had come out as gay and then were forced to quit(some in my district even) because of parents freaking out that their kids might get molested.VoidWanderer said:So with gay people joining, will the be changing the uniform?

It's a private club that accepts public money. Also, they did decide who can and cannot join.Xan Krieger said:So next will they allow women to join? And maybe the girl scouts will accept male members. It's a private club, can't they decide who can and can't join?
Nah it was horrible communication on your part. It wasn't even a stretch to infer that from what you said. It's okay to apologize for it and clarify, it doesn't always have to be the other person's fault. Misinterpretation is not a strawman, this word does not mean what you think it means. Seriously, can anyone on this board respond to my posts without making a strawman argument out of them?Vuliev said:[snip]...so who are you to say that we would be better off without the BSA?Katatori-kun said:...would it be such a bad thing if Boy Scouts went out of business? Seriously, what relevance do they have to modern life?
All of the general skills supposedly taught by boy scouts (leadership, self-confidence, etc) can be learned in other ways...
