Someone has been playing too much Modern Warfare 2!
was thinking the same thing...maybe the last stage with killing the general really made and impression on him...

at least he had good intentions...very poor execution...(might be a poor choice of words but oh well)

Well, the kid's only 14. From a legal (and if i know my friends, realistic) standpoint, he is not mature enough to make the decision we deem correct. plus, he's under a lot of stress. Let's see: Stress + immaturity = Not the best course of action. I certainly don't support this action, but i certainly can see the line (in the loosest sense possible) of thought this kid took.
Where did you grow up? The 50s? 14 year olds know thier shit now, they know what the fuck they're doing, they're just idiots.
Okay fine, get thrown into the same situation: Your mother is going off drunk and is forcing you to go along. No matter what you do, she refuses to comply. Both of you are in a kitchen. You are panicking. No cheating-what is first thing you think up of?

And about the knife throw, he's a kid. how many teenagers that age know the physics behind throwing objects? Did he know how to properly throw the knife? I sure as hell don't. And i'm 16.
As I said earlier, when I was 14 I could throw a machete into a palm tree from 20 metres, but most likely because I'm Australian.

He may not have been trying to kill her (E.G. aiming at legs)

He may have been trying to knock her out (E.G. that Croc Dundee film. Yes, I know it was just a movie...)

He may not have even known it was a knife on the spur of the moment. (Crap! Mum is running, throw the nearest thing to stop her.... Shit! It was a knife)

The report is pretty sparse (says 'stabbed' at start implying intent) so no real way of knowing his real intentions, possibly ever.

Kitchen knife =/= machete

Non-lethal spot on the back of a moving human =/= palm tree
