I don't see how this article was blaming the incident on television, then South Park episode only had a throwaway mention, and they probably were inspired by it.

The article made no judgement as to whether it was the programme's fault or the parents fault for letting them watch the programme.

What stupid, stupid children. Gingers are an important part of our society.

There have been many great, influential Gingers in history.........................................................................................................like Ron Howrad..................
Conan O'Brien is the obvious answer.
But Conan isn't a Ginger. He's a Day-Walker!

[small]If you don't get the South Park reference, that's fine :D[/small]

parents are the biggest infulence in a childs life. i let my son watch south park with me all the time. and sometimes i have a talk with him about what was in the episode we just watched, and about what kind of consequences you can expect if you act like that in real life. and so far he is not racist against anyone, regardless of hair colour or freckle count.

I too was born ginger, I am no longer a full-blooded red head, but am tired of the social stigma of being classed as a carrier...

Too long my brothers and sisters have we been ostracised and abused! No longer shall we stand idly by as we are segregated and ridiculed! We will no longer be excluded from films, unless playing a bumbling sidekick or replaced by a non-ginger actor or actress 'reding-up'! No longer will be excluded from mainstream music, unless having to bear insulting labels of our colour like 'ginger spice' or 'simply red'!

No. It is time to paint not just the town red, but the world. Fly the red flag! Today we take back what is ours and more!!

...oh and this an odd source for a story from L.A...

That's kind of dumb... this is one of the only stories of kids getting arrested that I actually think they deserved it.

These children didn't do this because they watched South Park and were 12/13. These children did this because they were idiots.

Investigators said the incident was seemingly inspired by the season nine South Park episode 'Ginger Kids'.
I'm usually one of the first to cry out "Now wait a minute, don't go pinning this on TV/Movies/Games so quickly", but considering the age of the kids and...well, the whole "kick a ginger" thing, I'm gonna agree with the OP. Kids that young shouldn't be watching shows meant for adults.
Dont get me wrong here, i hate it when people blame games and tv shows and stuff like that, but all the same, like you said, these kids where young, and there parents should have watched them. I have to deal with my brother running around the house screaming "shut your fucking face uncle fucker!" and random family guy lines all damn day, it gets stupid fast...

One of the funniest threads ever, mostly through quoting South Park and Ginger Bashing.

Oh and what Abadeus said... definitely! "I think ginger dudes are ugly. However, ginger (or just redhead) girls... Mrrraur."

Like you Hiphophippo I also am angry at Outlook Calendar for not reminding me.

I suppose I had better just add that persecuting gingers is bad and wrong. In fact, it is so bad and wrong that they need to invent a new word for it like Badong or Gnardab! Long live Steve Oedekerk.

South Park can be blamed for giving the kids the ideas of calling redheads "gingers" and being mean to them.

Before that episode, I'd never heard the term ginger, nor the idea that they were to be hated. I'd only heard the phrase "I'm going to beat you like a redheaded step-child," but never understood why the redhead would be beaten any more than the other step-kids.

Parents can be blamed for not teaching the kids how to handle new ideas.

Kids get new ideas from TV shows, video games, books, friends, and even relatives. All can be the source of a bad idea. The real trick is to teach your kids how to analyze a new idea and decide if it's good or bad; not to shelter them from ideas altogether. Granted, lots of people want to shelter their 5r old from many adult ideas, like cussing, sex, gore, the notion of rape and other horrible events, etc, but teenagers should be able to handle a lot. Plus, that's what the ratings system is for.

Chinese parents pay little or no heed to their childrens upbringing. And in most cases are not even involved at all.

I've seen a Chinese women watch her daughter climb out of, and stand upon the child seat in a KFC here making no move to stop her. Then having said daughter slip and fall to the grand hitting her head and beginning to cry. The mother.... just laughed and picked her up.

Mind boggling.

China has no rating systems. Nor any enforced copyright laws of any kind.

Edit: My bad didn't happen in China. just read the article sorry. The Chinadaily link confused me :p

I figured something stupid like this would happen before too long. Also, who the hell tells someone via text message that they are going to kick them? That's bad policy.

"My mom says that each of my freckles is a kiss from an angel!"
"Hmm... yes well..."

Had nothing to do with the show. The parents fault. Great shows like South park do not deserve this!
