Emily Bronte... I have a weak spot for Wuthering Heights ever since I read it for my 19th Century Brit Lit class

Robert Jorden he left us too soon:(
I second that. I randomly heard that one day after having stopped reading his wheel of time series for a while. That really sucks. :(

Kurt Vonnegut. He lived a couple towns over, but died a few years before I even heard of him. Would love to have gotten just to chat with him for a single morning even if it was about nothing.

G.K. Chesterton: whether or not you agree with the man's religious leanings (which he supplies heavily throughout his work), the man was an absolute champ at writing.

Those of you who have played Deus Ex, perhaps you'll remember the title: The Man Who Was Thursday.

You have advance technology that can bring a dead author back to life, who would it be?

I've really enjoyed many Lovecraft tales so it would be him
I think Lovecraft would hate it here.

I have to agree with calls for Douglas Adams. He had a potential that I would've liked to see more of, just to see where it goes.

Definitely Douglas Adams. More hitchhikers guide would have been great, still one of the best series Ive ever read as it is though.

Shakespeare. Dude was one of the greatest writers of all time, knew how to do characters, to stir things up and could fill up a theater.
ooh, it would have to be a choice between jaques or shakesphere. I enjoyed the flying dutchman series, but would like to have shakesphere say what it was like in his life

Michael Crichton. I don't read much but I could always get into his books.
Even though he hasn't been gone that long, but yeah.

It's already been said but it bears repeating:
Douglas Adams
There simply wasn't a better writer for clever funnys than Douglas Adams. And he was really tall

I'm going with Mr. Tolkien myself. I want him to put the polishing touches on all of the 1st and 2nd Age stories.

Douglas Adams wins the thread, as he did so much else. Except, of course, punctuality.
I don't care if he never wrote another word. The world is a darker, colder place without Douglas in it.

Immediately thought of David Gemmell as soon as I saw this thread. He was great & I absolutely loved his "Troy" series.
Kind of surprised no-one else said him but maybe just no-one reads the kind of books I do?
Shame really, but everyone likes different kinds I suppose.
