Scottish, English and Welsh are British, as they make up Great Britain, Irish is not as it's a different island. The exception being those of us from Northern Ireland, who under the Good Friday Agreement have the right to claim either or both nationalities.

Edit and On topic: does Psycho actually count because he was playable in Warhead.

"British" means English, Irish, Scottish or Welsh so Cpt. McMillan does count
You might find some disagreement that Irish counts as British, Britain is just the island England, Wales and Scotland form. But yeah he counts, he's Scottish isn't he? World War 2 games usually feature at least some Brits, especially the more historically accurate ones.

Tomb Raider games usually have Brits too, aside from the obvious Lara Croft.

Wait? Scotland declared independance?!, brb time to quell the celts again.
Zaeed's English. And both times I've completed ME2 he's died :(. And he's playable. Arguably. And you can't declare independance from an island! Well not without a lot of drillwork and continental drift.

Just going by the games that I have nearby, the only guy that I've found that could fit would be Captain Anderson from Mass Effect. But since he doesn't sound British, I'm not sure if he counts...
He's not British, it's the same voice actor who did The Arbiter in Halo 2/3, and Sgt Foley in Modern Warfare 2.

OT. Captain Ash, and whoever it is that Danny Wallace voices in AC2/Brotherhood.

Edit: Oh, and Gaz from CoD4

That's Keith Motherfuckin' David, the man who survived a fight with Nada (kick bubblegum and chew ass what have you,) and I know, his voice actor sounds a lot blacker than his character actually looks.

If you read the Codex entry on him, it states that Cpt Anderson is from London (and then fails to mention why his accent doesn't match...).

From Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. He also has a overly melodramatic scene at the end of MGS4.

Edit: yes he dies. Sorry, I was only considering his character in terms of the third game.

Really? I don't remember that. Well bugger me sideways it seems Bioware is even more awesome than I first thought.

Perhaps regional accents and languages mean less on a futuristic and more densely populated earth, that would make sense.

I think CoD has had the best British characters so far, but I do have a few favorite voice actors, preferably Stephen Merchant and that guy who played the English Bloke in AC2

I'ma say the lieutenant that was Captain Badass Price's mentor in that sniper mission from COD4.
To be exact he was Scottish, which is why i loved him even more!

OT: Every Helghast from Killzone because someone's gotta love him.

What? No. That is not an Australian accent. I'm pretty sure I know the difference between Australian and English - mostly because I live in the latter.
Dammit, he sounded australian to me, but voice actor says London. I assumed because he sounded drunk.

Immediately Captain MacMillan for CoD4 came into my head, and I am pretty sure he fits the criteria.

1. He never died.
2. He wasn't evil.
3. You never played as him.
4. He definitely wasn't an idiot.
5. The mission he was in it was just him and you for most of it. The only time any other allies came into it was the last 10 seconds of the mission.

Yes you can. It would be similar to, say, Texas, deciding it didn't want to be a part of the USA any longer.

In fact, there are fears that it may be happening some time in the future.

So, we now have:
Shaun Hastings (Assassin's Creed series)
Chloe Frazer (Uncharted 2)
Cpt. McMillan (Call of Duty 4)
Ellie Langford (Dead Space 2)
Zaeed Messani (Mass Effect 2)

Pretty small list so far, I had a feeling it would be hard. If you have any conflicts with this post, quote it and I'll get back

CoD?! The most British characters, perhaps (for a non-British developed/released game), but not best... though to be fair, I struggle to find better...

So, Shaun Hastings (or Danny Wallace with slightly expanded cheeks) is the only decent one I could think of... like many, so it would seem.

OK, then, but I don't think it counts, on account of them being playable, but the Marines in... well, Space Marine... and probably every other speaking character. Sure it hasn't released yet, but you can be sure there'll be a lot of outcry if the characters don't have English/British accents.

And probably everyone from Dragon Age (cringeworthy, though, some of the accents were).
