This complaining for the sake of complaining at it's max.
A pound is not and never was a bob, say that in my Grandad's presence (not that you can now) and you'd lose at last an hour having this drilled into your head. A pound is a quid, a bob is old money or an act of violence, but nobody wants a bob on the nose...

God bless corporate laziness!

what who cares about that the brits get McDonalds with free WiFi
You don't get free WiFi at McDonalds in America? Even us Aussies with our pathetic internet get free WiFi at Maccas.
no I'd have to go to starbucks and spend $7 on a cup of coffee for free WiFi
Wow, is this 'America' a 3rd world country?
no no I think that greedy pedo clown gets enough of our money we don't need to be enticed with free wireless internet

research has shown it is now more commonly used as slang for a pound or money in general
Nope, that's a quid. McDonald's, you fail again. Oh, and legally this time. I'd like my hamburger for 5p please, as you are advertising it.
You'd actually pay money for that? Seriously, I'm shocked. I thought you would've had better taste.

This reminds me a little of the "Where the bloody hell are you?" ads which ran for Australian tourism. It never occurred to the designers that "bloody hell" is really offensive to a good slab of their target audience in the US. A severe lack of research sees a lot of stupid gaffs which in hindsight are entirely laughable.

Nah, don't worry about it, I think people who sit in cofee shops etc with laptop beacause there is free WiFi are douche bags anyway, they just have that air about them.

Raging about this is way out of proportion, its simpily seems to be a case of American buisness executives not doing their research into English slang terms. (I have also noticed a couple of minor errors in the the Escapist's reporting on British affairs)

If you are not a native Brit and feel slightly unsure about the correct usage English slang terms, do a bit of research first please. That is all that really needs to be said really, do your research first!

Here's a good American way to think about it: Imagine if they were selling a venison hamburger for $3.49... then decided to call it a "Buck Burger".

Yeah, way to be dumb internationally, Mickey D's. There's a reason I don't eat at your place more than once every two months. Well, that and the fact that half your food makes me nauseous.

EDIT: That still doesn't excuse the whining and complaining from the people.

Christ, we a miserable bunch of cunts in Britain aren't we? Not happy unless we're complaining about something, fuck it, we complain just to complain that we have a complaint and that's making us unhappy so we complain about that.

Once again, proof that the majority of the Grey British public are sad twats.

(Yes I'm British so don't flame or I might just complain!)

Oh God, why are we complaining about a term that none of us use anymore?
All the old people are confused, and we know how English old folk like to moan.
When they heard about their language's misuse, tea was spilled, crumpets were dropped, and monicles popped out of eye sockets nationwide.

I'm not going to EAT it...ugh...probably give it to one of the homeless; but anything that reminds advertisers what the truth is is worth giving up a little money.
