"Bro, man, dude" Do you say it?

I say dude a lot. I don't realise just how much I do until someone points it out, but yeah I say it a shitload. I say man a fair bit, but not as much. I never say bro.

I have a (female) friend who likes to say "Cheers bru." all the time.

It annoys me for some reason.

Actually I don't, in fact one of my closest friends always refers to me as dude but he never says it like some stoned surfer so I let it slide.

Other ironic phrases I once despised, thought it would be more of a jibe if I used them ironically and now say them on a regular basis? Several. Particularly "soz". I used to glare at my sister every time she said it and now I use it regularly. I still give it that hyperbole tone so it still sounds ironic though. That's okay right...?
In fact there are a few things my sister says often to which I want to kill every person who's ever said it and yet I find myself wanting to use them in conversation.

Oh, and swearing. I NEVER used to swear and now I find myself thinking of "shit" whenever I want an adjective. Is there a cure for this kind of thing? Please?

"Dude" and "man" are relatively common in my vocabulary, but I usually don't say "bro" unless following cool stories.

As a white male who grew up in Hawaii, I had to fight my own dialect to keep from developing a pidgin accent. But spending a lot of time around the beaches, yeah. I did pick up the slang of dude and man and what not.

But to me it's funny because I consider myself a fairly intelligent person, but the words still slip out here and there. You get some pretty funny looks when you begin or end a well thought out statement with the word dude.

Every douche. Ever. As in, half the male population of my school.

As for me, I never say it, since it sounds stupid. However, I frequently say "dude", and once in a blue moon I'll call someone "man", or a more belligerent "buddy" or "pal".


On a related note, my sister has taken to calling me "brah".

I say 'man' and 'dude' when talking to people, never say 'bro'.

Me and a guy I work with call each other 'brah' occasionally (like off Dog the Bounty Hunter/South Park parody) just to mess about such as

Recently I realized that I start to say things ironically and then they legitimately join my lexicon.

While I have always said "dude" and "man" I recently realized that I say "word" and "bro" more and more often. At first it was just as a joke, but now I sincerely say these things.

So long story short, anyone else say "bro, man, or dude"?

Also are there any words you used to say for ironic purposes that you now say legitimately?

I find it degrading to say such things. Especially since "Dude" when respelled a little bit in one of the many african languages means "Elephant Shit"

I only call 4 people bro. My 3 Brothers, and one friend.

Man I will say, because it is an early part of slang that I will regard in my speech. However, I will not say it often. The only times I will say it is "Hey Man", but even than I havn't said that in a long time.

I say "man" and "dude" all the time. My best friend and I have actually had short conversations where all we say is "dude" and we understood what we were talking about.
