No one's denying that it's not directed at little children to sell them toys, but that doesn't mean it can't be aimed at other people as well.
Sneaking in a few jokes to make it bearable for parents to sit through doesn't mean its aimed that them.

A wise man (I forgot who, maybe he wasn't that wise, or he was) once said "A man's worth is determined by the enemies he made."

To that, I say, "A man's self-worth reflects in how many things he despises." Yeah, I just came up with that.
Well said, good sir!

OT: I just bought my first Magic: The Gathering deck about 8 hours ago. Am I ashamed? ...mildly. But not enough to stop me from telling people I'm a Magic player if they ask.

I'm a brony and I don't talk about MLP all day every day.
Really? Because i've never met you before now & the first thing out of your mouth was about you being a brony.

Taunta said:
Could it be that instead of everyone talking about it all the time, you are wandering into distinctly pony-themed areas of the internet, and complaining when people talk about ponies?
Not unless TF2, Deviantart & DCUO have been reclassified as "pony themed"

Taunta said:
Secondly, if people want to talk about stuff that interests them, that is frankly none of your business.
Sure it is... We have to listen to them.

Taunta said:
If it really bothers you that much (which I don't see why it should) then you could always just exit the conversation.
Or bronies could just you know shut the fuck up. No offense, but when its two bronies incessently talking about MLP in a room or server of 48 people, the 48 people shouldn't have to leave to accomodate the bronies, who won't shut up about a kids show for girls.

An thats the problem with this "pony themed" concept: Any place with two bronies in it becomes a bronie themed area of the internet... Because they just won't shut up about it.

Seriously, bronies need a filter between brain and mouth that filters out shit about a cartoon for 7 year old girls, that the people around them don't care about. Because frankly the obsessiveness of bronies borders on creepy & starts moving into pedo-bear territory of creepy.

Enjoy the show, but please imderstand that to the rest of us, who want to hold a conversation that isn't about a tv show for pre pubescent girls, its both creepy and annoying. Kind of like if i sat here expounding at length my love of school girl romance anime. Its creepy.
"Really? Because i've never met you before now & the first thing out of your mouth was about you being a brony."

Could it be because that is the topic of conversation? And that you are over-generalizing a group of people? But by all means, if you want to go through my other posts on this site and count what percentage are pony-related, be my guest. I'll wait.

"Sure it is... We have to listen to them."

Really? You have to? Someone has strapped you into a chair, Clockwork Orange-style and is forcing you to watch and/or listen to this conversation? Forgive me if I find that hard to believe.

"Or bronies could just you know shut the fuck up. No offense, but when its two bronies incessently talking about MLP in a room or server of 48 people, the 48 people shouldn't have to leave to accomodate the bronies, who won't shut up about a kids show for girls."

No, you shouldn't have to leave, because if you honestly can't handle someone having a conversation about something you don't like then maybe you need to re-evaluate your tolerance for other people. Why does it bug you so much? If you were at a party and two people decided to have a conversation to each other about a topic you don't care about, would you walk up to them and ask them to leave? Would you force everyone else to leave? Probably not, because neither are reasonable options. Most likely, you would ignore them. I don't understand why you can't just do the same on the internet.

An internet forum/chat room is the same as a crowded party. People can choose to talk to everyone or find one or more other people to talk to. You're probably going to hear/read what they're saying. You can choose to pay attention, or you can choose to ignore them. They have the right to talk about whatever they want, and people shouldn't have to censor themselves because whatever they're talking about is not relevant to you. "Have to walk on eggshells around" is not a good attribute to have.

"Because frankly the obsessiveness of bronies borders on creepy & starts moving into pedo-bear territory of creepy."

Aahhhh, see now we're getting into the real reason. From this post, I now understand that the topic isn't what bugs you, it's the show itself. "How can they like this show that's for little girls?"

Are all bronies like that? No. You're over-generalizing again.

Everyone has something that they geek out over. For them it just happens to be a cartoon. I don't know enough about you to say what yours is. My point being: that because someone geeks out over something that you don't like, does not make them weird/creepy/etc. It just makes them different. And being different is okay. You should respect other people's differences, instead of putting them down for it and demanding they censor themselves about it because you don't want to hear it.

Actually, they do.
Examples, bro. No one is going to listen to a word you say until you can grab onto something and actually prove it. Just trying to pretend what was said is not true doesn't work, you have the burden of proof to deal with.

incorrectness - the quality of not conforming to fact or truth
The Free Dictionary. Type incorrectness into Google and watch as your little attempt at playing to semantics and to detract from an argument fade away into nothing.

So yeah.
Replace those characters with five year old girls. What do you get? Exactly the same show. MLP is not intended for you and if you do watch you're most likely harbouring some dark feelings deep down.
Not true, as you see if you replace them with five year olds you have the problem that there already are younger ponies outside of the mane six, two of them already have younger sisters at about that age, and since this role is occupied by the younger sisters and their friends, why wouldn't the mane six be attending school with them, and why would they be holding down jobs? This whole argument of yours reeks of you being horribly misinformed about the show and complete ignorance on a subject does not equate to an argument against it.

And as for the second bit there, what in the world are you talking about here? Dark feelings are the exact opposite reason as to why I watch the show, if I need to break out an old copy paste of why I specifically watch the show I will do so. In fact, I will do so.
It's animation is great, its characters are fleshed out and realized without being stereotypes, the voice acting is phenomenal, the songs are good, the subject matter is excellent, they don't treat the audience like idiots, and the Creator Lauren Faust made it with the intent that adults will be watching it with their daughters, thus she didn't dumb it down.
Lauren Faust was able to make this happen by telling Hasbro that she wasn't just going to make a twenty minute commercial for the toy-line and actually make people care about what they are buying. Plus, she was very involved in the making of Powerpuff Girls, Codename Kids Next Door, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, all of which are quite good.
And beyond that, it wasn't supposed to be good. It was supposed to continue the trend MLP suffers from and go from acceptable, to not good, to poor, to OMG Y U SO BAD, and so on. To have it not only break the trend but to be good has juxtaposed it to a new level and the pure shock of it not being terrible was enough to garner itself an initial audience to get a foothold in the older fans.

I could say that "bronies" are mostly pedophiles, which would probably be an accurate remark, but I refrain from doing so because I know how sensitive you lot are. I tried giving you all a fair chance to explain yourselves but so far I have yet to be given a compelling argument to justify why grown men would enjoy watching five year olds run around the countryside doing whatever.
Watching My Little Pony makes me as much of a pedophile as watching Dexter makes you a serial killer. Taste in TV shows has no weight on sexuality, which is the same for Video Games, Movies, Books, Music, etc.
Except the fair chance thing you are talking about? That equates to you calling us pedophiles in masked terms, outright refusing what was said, and attempting to derail based on grammar, spelling, and semantics. Your 'fair chance' is the same as Fox News' 'fair and balanced', barely masked animosity towards anything different than you.

Yes, definitely. I would never wear an item of brony-related clothing nor would I ever get any similar product. I only talk about the show and it's culture with people who I know irrefutably are bronies (these people, by the way, openly discuss the show/wear T-shirts/etc)and even then I keep the conversation short, quiet and ambiguous to any other people around. When asked if I am a brony I will attempt to dodge the question and, if that doesn't work, I will provide an unclear answer. I visit brony-related sites online however I hardly ever comment or add to discussions and I will never make references/ use pony reaction images/ have a pony avatar/ mention the show/ etc on any non-brony site whatsoever (I had various second thoughts before even posting this reply).

In regards to Warhammer, I used to play 40k with some friends a while ago. The other day I was talking to one of those friends about Warhammer 40k and seemed very embarrased even to the point of asking that we talk about something else.

Now this might have changed for the second and third seasons (now that Bronies are a thing), but I bet you anything that when Hasbro commissioned them to make the first season, it was aimed at little girls.
That's what Hasbro wanted. But they hired people that make show's that are fun for all ages. It doesnt matter if the characters happen to be females or animals.

As for the idea that bronies should be ashamed of themselves: Yes... Yes you should be ashamed that there is now a gender age discrepency of intended target versus actual audience. You should be ashamed that you can't stopping fucking talking about ponies. You should be ashamed that you can't stop co-opting every other fandom into ponies... But frankly not anymore then furfags & anime otaku fanboys who never shut up about there favourite fandom...

I mean i enjoy Young Justice, but i don't feel the need to talk about it every day: I don't make young justice versions of Doctor Who, or young justice memes & its not my TF2 spray.
Hey. Little know fact. Cartoonnetwork shows are intended for children. You should be just as ashamed.

As for talking about what you like all the time, it's annoying, but no more than people who like half life or Breaking bad or whatever show they watch.

I'd have thought a person living in the 21st century would have realized by now that femininity is no longer used to refer to that.
Then what, by virtue of whose credibility, would it mean? You really seem to enjoy going against anything that passes you by, but you can't ever find anything actually solid to base it on. It's just thin air.

PercyBoleyn said:
This seems to be a trend with people who watch MLP. They generally have a very basic understanding of the world around them.
Yeah, thin air.

PercyBoleyn said:
The reason people chastise you for watching MLP is because it features pre-pubescent girls, not because you're breaking down societal norms by watching a show about horses.
You haven't got a clue what you're talking about, do you? At least try and do some research, eh?

Actually, they do.
You have yet to prove that. People who have actually watch the show know that they are closer to adults.

Incorrectness is not a word.
He is saying you are incorrect. How hard is that to pick up on?

Replace those characters with five year old girls. What do you get? Exactly the same show. MLP is not intended for you and if you do watch you're most likely harbouring some dark feelings deep down.
There are actual 5 year old characters to compare the adults too. So your characterizations fail.

And you go back to saying has to be wrong with a person just to watch a show. Faulty logic.

This seems to be a trend with people who watch MLP. They generally have a very basic understanding of the world around them.
More invalid generalizations stated so you can get a raise out of people.

The reason people chastise you for watching MLP is because it features pre-pubescent girls, not because you're breaking down societal norms by watching a show about horses.
So you're saying any show with an underage character is watched mostly by pervs? Well now that's just silly.

Also, read Adult

The next time you try to look badass by using a word that sounds complicated at the very least look for one that is actually in the English dictionary.
Now you are just wrong. Could have known that by using google.

It's an adequate show for children and men alike.
Fixed that for you.

Talking to you has been like watching a trainwreck slowly creep its way into a sewage plant.
Ignoring his point completely and countering with an insult. How cute of you.

Why is it that the people who watch MLP always try their hardest to look smarter than they are? I never understood this.
The first sign you're loosing an argument is that you pick apart things that have nothing to do with what we are talking about.

That is just how I pharased the statement. No one is trying to be smarter than you. Though I don't think I'd have to try.

Actually, I came in and pointed out that they're watching a show intended for little girls. That realization must have triggered a panic attack or something. It's been pretty sad to say the least.
You came into a thread that's sole purpose is for members of one fandom to comment, and you came in here to antagonize members of said fandom

More pointless generalizations.

"Anyone who watches Teen Titans is a pedo because they are watching it to look at teenages in tights"

Do you see the flaw in that?

No one has to justify an act that has no negative effects on anyone.

Good god, my thread appears to have run rampantly out of control. I will, I promise, try to get around to answering people (who have said many interesting things both agreeing and disagreeing with my OP) when I get back from work later. And do the washing up. And do the ironing. And clean my room. And finish Fable III.

So yeah - soon!

Now. My sexual orintation. THATS SOMETHING I CAN BE ASHAMED OF WITH PRIDE!

Ha, good one! Although, honestly, if you're serious?

*shrugs*

Stranger and more deranged things have happened. Plus, I have to admit Warner's favourite fowl has a certain magnetism. Now, if he only didn't squander it by acting like a boisterous boob all the freaking time...

But, ahem. Ponies.

I'm a casual watcher, I've got nothing against it or people who watch it, but you won't see me talk to my longtime friends about it while being all "DUDE, DID YOU SEE THE SHIT TWILIGHT SPARKLE PULLED, DURING THE LAST TWO-PARTER?! JEEZE, MAN. I MEAN, JEEZE. FUCKIN' INTENSE."

Nah. That's more of a Game of Thrones-worthy reaction. Or Dexter. Or True Blood, if you swap "Twilight Sparkle" with "Allan Ball" and assume the quote expresses the speaker's sheer disbelief and sad resignation at how crazy-as-a-shit-house-rat the series has become.

Basically, I spend my viewings pining for more Discord. I've said it before and I'll say it again; he needs his own freaking show!

Well, every thread does the moment that Percy pops up in it, if the R&P forums are any indication. Seriously, if I happen to ever agree with the guy I feel ashamed of myself. I'd advise you to pretty much disregard that exchange, because well...*sigh* I dunno, it's a trend of him making up shit about people and then prancing around like he owns the place.

I'm not ashamed of myself but I am ashamed of a whoole lot of the other people in the brony fandom. It's got to the point where I now intend to stop being a brony, and just keep watching the show with my irl brony friends so I can avoid the online idiocy.

Nope.
And to avoid a warning I will now write a poem. Enjoy

It is sunny out
Children run and shout
The city is grey
It contrasts with the day
Pickles are green
Spline
