We non-bronies wanna be in the cool club too dammit! We just don't want to have to pretend to like a cartoon that doesn't appeal to us. Pick any cartoon (not too girly) from the 80's and I'll wear the bloody t-shirt, maybe even without irony.
Visionaries.

Do it now. I'll wait.

Well, I don't walk around gushing about how great MLP is, but I don't particularly hide my enjoyment of the show either. I do own several pieces of pony apparel and wear them openly in public; my policy of not giving a fuck about what people think of me serves me quite well in this regard.

I'm not a Brony, but I have NOT registered any real 'shame' attached to being one... From what I see, it's actually quite cool in the nerd community to be one. It's cool to show others how few fucks you give by liking a show that they think many people wouldn't aprove of! Am I saying ALL Bronies are after that 'cool' badge? No, I'm sure many of you seriously DO enjoy the show. Knowing the people in my close community though, there is about 70% who are in it for the ironic coolness, and I don't think the world in general is all that diferent. I'm not going to speculate with numbers I know nothing about though!

I don't mind people being Bronies... There is no reason for me to, and I'd be a huge hypocrite cause I like loads of things that are childish! In general I'm quite a childish person really, and I think a lot of other people are... I have some friends that like to act all tough and grown-up but they too can't always hide their inner child, everyone seems to have one. I think maybe people look with cross eyes at childish people because they themselves are too selfconcious to let theirs out to play.

OhgodYES! Let us in to your secret society Bronies! PLEASE!

Let's just form another little thing. We'll like something wacky and impossible that will make no sense to anyone at first, until they realise our clever irony and become members themselves! And we will laugh wholeheartedly at the foolish wanabes that pretend to genuinely like whateveritis in desperate atempts to become part of our elitist cult.

I got a transforming car for my birthday at age 5... I don't even like the transformers, never have! I wanted a plushie damnit, a big one! X3 ... Got one the next year, a crocodile bigger than myself... Good times.

No, not really. I don't exactly go out of my way to tell everyone I know about it, but I'm not really afraid to talk about it either.
This...

Although I do wear Brony shirts around town occasionally, but no-one has yet to recognise it's connection to the show, so, I haven't really conversed on the subject outside the few who know I'm a Brony...

Evidently, or you'd change your custom title.

Or, you know, maybe you wouldn't. I'm not judging.
That's also one thing that annoys me Oo. Here I've been, headoverheels in love with ponies all my life. Suddenly, as I grow up, MLP comes along and becomes a HUGE nerd hit for no obvious reasons. Now I can't even enjoy the username that has been a part of me for so many years, because every time I play a game or post on a website I get snarky remark about being a Brony or whatever! I'm not even a guy, why am I still a bro?! I clearly don't understand that word.

But oh well... I guess one cannot just like ponies anymore. Liking ponies is EXACTLY the same as liking MLP! EXACTLY THE SAME! KEIN DIFERENCE!

No.

The same way I'm not ashamed of gaming or liking bacon in the presence of vegetarians. I do what I want because I enjoy it.
Hey, Time Lord? I don't know what the Escapist policy on comment stealing is, but I'm stealing this and using it as my response. Sound cool?

Completely off topic, but you may wish to reupload your avatar again (assuming you still have the original), since you're PubClub, and your avatar will end up bigger than it currently is (at the moment yours is non-pubclub size).
Just a suggestion.
Uhw, OK? Oo

I don't know about the Publishers Club stuff, I just like to support a nice website and get good quality videos in return X3. I'm also drawing up a new avatar for myself but I'm not done yet. When so I will follow your advice, what is the proportions I should use?

The way I see it, among nerds, there is much more expected "shame" attached to being a brony, than to liking MLP.

In the same way as it is seen as worse to be an otaku than to like anime, to be a PC gamer than to play on a PC, and generally to be in a "fandom" than to simply like something.

While "nerd" itself is a group label, nerds react very badly to other in-groups, and love to stereotype all of them as annoying, obsessive "fanboys" with a superiority complex.

Also, they love to accuse everyone else of being a pervert. Stereotype all "fanfiction" as smut, "fanservice" as erotic scenes, bronies (and generally furries) as zoophiles, otaku as pedophiles, and thus imply that those "obsessive fanboys" are icky perverts driven by their lower halves, compared to the classy, refined individual who does the stereotyping.

I wouldn't openly wear a MLP t-shit, partly because I would feel very conscious wearing it, and partially because I get random abuse in my town for wearing glasses: something I thought we were over since the 90's.

So, yes, I guess you could say I'm 'ashamed'. I will happily tell my friends if it comes up in casual conversation, but I don't really think wearing a shirt that'll make a few people smile is worth the mountains of abuse I'd get for it.

Nope. Was a little embarrassed when I first started watching (and liking) it, but quickly got over that.
As with all things I like, I don't normally bring it up unless someone else says something about it, then of course I'll join in.
As for reactions, I haven't really had any bad reactions about it either. Most often, when someone I know first finds out I like FiM, the conversation will be something like:
"Hang on, you like that show?"
"Yeah? It's a good show."
...
"Alright then."
Then continue on as normal. Only a couple times have I had some backlash from a friend about it, first when he first found out, then a little later he jokingly brought it up again, then it was just accepted.
I guess I could just be lucky in that regard, or just hang around the right people. Either one. :p

Do I think other people look down on me? None of my friends look down on me for it (a couple of them even started watching it, too). Acquaintences who find out often don't care either since I don't make a big deal about it, and the one or 2 so far who did turn it into some big deal quickly stopped caring when they started realising I don't really care what they thought about it. It's why they're just acquaintences and not friends, after all. XD

What...WHAT!? Captcha, you like reptiles on flying vessels!? Clearly, you will burn in hell, heathen!
You clearly don't watch Doctor Who, then. :p

I am told that nowhere in the rules of bro-ship does it state that a female cannot be a bro. So I hope that answers your question. :3

OT: I don't announce it to all and sundry IRL, but I don't hide it either. Most of my immediate family know, but that's about it.
Online is another matter. I sport a Princess Luna avatar just about everywhere and my current Steam name is "Dr. Luna Freemane", because Half-Life + Ponies = awesome. Also Black Mesa.

So yeah, go figure.

*EPIC-BROFIST*... Visionaries were awesome. You are cool, fact. I had a couple of the figures. I would honestly wear a visionaries t-shirt without irony, but rather a sense of pride at being that much cooler than everyone else (not you obvs).

I wont mention certain interests to family or coworkers but that's because I don't want to be hassled. Among my friends though I don't care if they know I watch MLP: friendship is magic. It's a decent, relaxing show and I'll keep watching it. I don't care if anyone likes that or not.

I never have by anyone I've told. Interesting.

Ah, well, the dimensions have to be 115x115 (us non-pubclubbers are restricted to 85x85 , which is what yours currently is).

If it's too big, it will get resized anyway, however, when this happens, any animation will be lost (only if it's animated to begin with).
I see! Thanks, now I will make a big shiny avatar and lord it over all the rest of you! MWAHAHAAHAHAHHAH

Hm. I just assumed that bro was short for brother Oo. And that I would be a sis? A... Sissy? No wait, that's something completely unrelated... I guess that does answer my question, thanks! =3 I'm still not a Brony as such... Is there no fancy title for people that just like plain old regular ponies?

I'm not a brony, but if I was one, I wouldn't be.
Mind you, I wouldn't be yelling it at everyone either.
