That was a picture of Foghorn Leghorn
If that's some sort of meme, I missed it. I'm bad at the internet.
Foghorn Leghorn was one of the original LOONY TOONS.

Look him up.
Well yeah, I know who he is, I just didn't understand why he posted that picture. In fact, it was long enough ago now that practically every detail of the conversation is gone, so I'll go look it up :p
I said "My sexual orintation is something to be ashamed about.

One of Foghorn Leghorns catch phrases is "Thats a joke son. Went right over your head" I posted it because I wanted to make sure you knew I was being sarcastic. But everyone took it as me admitting to fucking chickens. I don't even...

My favourite hobby is dressing up as Robin and going to comiccon.
Out of interest, which Robin? I hope you're not wearing those little yellow hot pants...
Not Yellow.
Green.
Also no, I go as Tim Drake, who wears big boy pants.

I dont' qualify as a Brony I think (seen about 6 or 7 episodes) but....I was curious what all the commotion was about and so I watched a few. I don't judge people on what they enjoy watching...but I must admit the first couple episodes were not that great. Figured it was just another "teach young kids lessons in life" cartoon.

There were a few good bits though, and as I watched a few episodes I came to really like Pinky Pie. I do plan on watching more in the future if only mainly because of her. I'm not exactly a fan of the show, but I can watch episodes anytime on netflix....and I like anime...so I'm sure I'll watch them all eventually.

It's a bit weird switching between witchblade and MLP.....but I enjoy it.

And I'm not ashamed about it either. I told my wife I was watching it and why. She was like "no way am I watching that with you". I tried to explain it was humorous etc but shes not really into anime/cartoons at all anyway.

Anyway, I think anyone who gives the show an honest chance will see that is has the potential to be funny/fun for people of all ages. I do think that the show starts off a bit slow though, and skipping the first few episodes might be a good idea. For myself, I basically just feel like skipping through till parts with Pinky in em heh.

Why would I feel ashamed in liking a cartoon? It's nobody else's business what I watch.
HAZY. This is the 2nd time you've shown up on these forums without a Vegeta-themed avatar. Do you realize how much that throws me off? I don't even like Dragonball, but ever since you switched to the new Borderlands avatar, I've assumed you were someone else because it wasn't Vegeta. YOU'RE TEARING ME APART HAZY!

OT: Not a brony, but no one should be ashamed of it, and also no one should shove the fact that they aren't ashamed of it in someone's face. That's my policy.
2 Months Later, and I'm a brony now. I still stand by my policy.

I'm not ashamed of it, but I don't really tell anybody mainly because I live in Texas, and even though I live in the more progressive part of Texas, it's still not advised to go around proclaiming that you like a girl's show about ponies. If I do see a fellow brony, however, I'll be sure to give him a brohoof and a wink.

I kinda have the opposite problem.

I might live in a mostly liberal state (Oregon) but I live in a fairly conservative area, and most people I know are VEEERRRRY conservative.

I know my dad wasn't very happy when he found out...

It's so awkward....

And yet, I'm still waiting for the day I meet a fellow brony. Just waitin...

I feel you, bro. It'll be a cold day in hell when I tell my Dad about it.

Yeah, well....

When I first started watching the show, I was fairly inconspicuous. No one knew I watched the show until about a year later. I started getting more and more comfortable with it and I didn't try to hide it as much (ie: stopped deleting certain parts of my history and watching the show at times other than the late hours of the night....)

I didn't tell him, but it was only a matter of time til my parents found out. My mom was cool with it.

My dad... eh... not so much...

But now I've added some pony shirts to my wardrobe of geek apparel and have pony wallpapers on my desktop slideshow.

Still, I know just simply trying to explain the show to the types of people I know will be weird.

If somebody harasses you because you like a cartoon about ponies, then they're probably not all that great at being civil. It's like they never got out of grade school, you know, when you thought it was ok to call a kid names because he had glasses. Back when you were a kid, you didn't know any better, but now you're a grown adult.
Honestly, if you feel so strongly about someone else's interests that you have to act a total jack ass, then be ready to accept the consequences of that. If you go around and harass people, shove them, maybe even threaten them with violence, then understand that the law is not on your side.

So my question to you, Brony chums, is whether you feel ashamed of your hobby or whether you revel in it? Do you discuss it openly with family and friends or do you restrict your pony-loving to forums or other forms of online interaction? Would you walk down the street in a Pinkie Pie t-shirt (I admit, I had to look the name up) or do you keep your preference a secret? Whichever way you answer, I'd like to ask why - if you feel safe publicaly admitting your tastes, do you ever face harassment for it? If you keep it as a dirty little secret, why? Do you think other people would look down on you?
I am not ashamed of being a brony.
However, due to widespread misperceptions/misrepresentations among geek/internet culture I *do* now feel
the need, when asked if I am a brony to ask in return-"Depends. What does the term 'brony' mean to you?"

You see, there are many people who think that the definition of 'brony' is 'Someone who will aggressively
and constantly push the show MLP:FIM on anyone and everyone that they encounter, and/or claim that they
are victims of discrimination/hatred when anyone declares a dislike for the brony community or the show'.
Unfortunately, two of my closest friends cling to this definition of brony, even though *not one* of the
three bronies they know personally does this. I am always happy to share my reasons for loving the show
with anyone who asks, I do not push it on anyone.

There are also, unfortunately, a growing number of people who think that 'brony' means 'clopper'. I
absolutely do *not* want to be associated with cloppers.

This is actually a really good point. I often call myself a brony, mainly because it's shorter than "young adult guy who likes My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic", but there are a couple negative connotations that have unfortunately come to be synonymous with the term "Brony", connotations that I would rather not be applied to me. Both the big ones you already covered.

Of course, there are the people who seem to think that simply having an avatar or a t-shirt of the show is "pushing it on them". If someone thinks that simply wearing a t-shirt is being "loud and obnoxious", then they can just get over themselves.

This sounds like a "no true Scotsman" fallacy to me. I don't know what a clopper is, but I can hazard a guess. Anyway all those people would be Broneies right? A Broney is just a name given to people who watch the show, the last time I cheeked. That can include a lot of people. If the are sinners or saints that has nothing to do with the the term "brony." Your trying to define it as something that it's not, it's a broad term that includes those groups, yet you seam to want to excluded them.

Anyway Broney to me is like Propaganda. There is nothing wrong with the definition of it, but it has a negative connotation due to what surrounds it. AkA I don't consider it a positive thing to be a brony despite the definition being something neutral.

And that is also a really good point. Sitting a dozen feet away from someone while quietly discussing the latest
episode with a fellow brony does not equal shoving it in that someone's face. Making some badges for people to take
& wear at our local anime convention *if they wanted to* isn't being overly aggressive with it.

(Puts piece of grass in mouth)
Nope.
It's not that I want to exclude them, it's that I want others to understand that not every member of the
brony community is a member of one/both of these small subgroups.
"All racists are humans" does NOT equal "All humans are racists".
And a surprising number of cloppers aren't actually fans of the show, which is even more disturbing.......
