Bronies is a fandom I too, cannot stand. It's not that they like the show. I don't care less about what people like. It's how they go about justifying plastering it everywhere, like they're some bizarre kind of colourful horse-based revolutionaries. Look at us, we don't fit in with male gender stereotypes! We're rewriting the definition of manly!

Ugh. Every freakin' time. Look. It's a girl's show. If you want to watch it, go ahead and watch it. I'm not going to complain. However. Those avatars. Those gifs. You don't have them because you like them, you have them because they're My Little Pony. I personally don't like my avatar. I chose it because I had nothing else to choose from. I'd change it, but it's kind of associated with my name now, and I'd rather not confuse people. But I like Armoured Core. Kind of. I enjoyed the second game. Okay, back on track.

You don't like the show. You've become the show. While I think Trekkies take it a little bit too far sometimes, and I don't get their jokes, I can understand why you'd get into a franchise as big as that. THAT, at least, is the target audience. You guys are getting off over a story about FRIENDSHIP. I'm not sure how hard I have to hit these nails for you to understand. They are happy little horses who are struggling to understand friendship. This is morality for kids. You should not be entertained by this drivel. Good God.

Aww. Somepony needs a hug. He also needs to learn to ignore threads that aren't going to interest him.

I saw this article on my iPod in the morning. I let it load, but I read it during lunch, thinking it was some hate filled criticism; was pretty good, actually. Considering I'm not the "typical" brony (my lady parts disagree with the brony label but I find "pegasister" condescending) the article does not apply to me but I like to stay informed on what our rep is.

Anyway, yes. I'm glad Soren mentioned that "It must be a sex thing" conclusion that so many people seem to jump to for so many things. It really confuses me. Not all interests have to be sexual, you know.

The thread interested me. The brony community is fascinating, in the same way a violently schizophrenic lemming is fascinating.

NOTHING...I repeat...NOTHING...Can be too hard on bronies.

Now if this was a Spiderman thread..........
ok guys, this is now a spiderman thread.

But seriously, Can't people calm down about this? It's a good show that people like. There is nothing strange about that. Everyone should just be calm. There are going to always be extremes on both sides, but neither of them are right. The ones who are right are the ones who, Pardon me, tolerate each other despite the different viewpoints. If we're going to learn anything from the american government, does it have to be how to fight among ourselves? Alright, Enough about that from me.

I hate bronies. Not the show, not the people who like the show, the idiots who are so obsessed with shoehorning it into everything else that they had to give themselves a special name. They're exactly like the Sonic and Final Fantasy fans (who I hate just as much).

I don't begrudge them their fun, and if they just talked about the show in proper places (like dedicated threads on forums about cartoons or TV or geek culture or whatever) I would not mind or even notice them. I hate them because they keep barging in to forums and discussion boards I frequent, which are about classic literature, or giant robots, or studying foreign languages, or comic books from more than 30 years ago, or other things that have fuck all to do with ponies, and completely derail perfectly good conversations by showing up and spamming images of ponies until normal communication becomes impossible. That is the face the bronies are presenting to the outside world, so I say: "Fuck them".

Now that that's out of the way, the description in the article seems like a reasonably good fit for the reasonable, sane people I know who happen to like My Little Pony, and who I believe represent the majority of it's actual fan-base (the internet tends to skew perceptions in favor of extremely vocal crazy people). You will note that none of them feel the need to group together under a silly name.

They mentioned Bronies in that article? I remember getting to the part about the old women loving slash fics and then it all went black. All I know is I woke up in the tub, shaking, and covered in what I keep telling myself is animal blood.

I thought the Cracked article was surprisingly easy on us, considering it's Cracked. Maybe Soren (Soarin, heh) is a closet brony? And all you claiming Fluttershy and/or Dash - you can have 'em. I will be off enjoying cultured pursuits with the lovely Rarity.

I really hate Twilight so I don't go to places made for Twilight fans.
Wait, what? You don't like Twilight? ...Oh, that Twilight. Damn, I had nearly managed to forget it existed.
What Twilight were you thinking of? Twilight Sparkle, that "Little Miss Bookworm"?

As for your favorite, I can't say she's my favorite (something about Pinkie Pie's sugar rush and hot pink hair makes me all excited, and not in a bad way), but you're on the same page as Spike. Anyone who agrees with the baby dragon who burps magic flaming letters is agreeable in my book. (And I made two book references after calling Twilight a bookworm :p)

Young adolescent males? I think they could have picked a better age group or a bigger one. A nice read though.

I assure all of you that the proper course of action is to not care.

I can understand a fanbase can be infuriating, and it may even spur on outright contrarianism, and their presence may seem unyielding, but in apathy, there is satisfaction unheard of anywhere else.

It's just a good(imo) tv show, with a big fanbase. And that is no reason to pay any mind.

Ah, yes, My Little Pony. I must say I am a fan of the show, primarily for it's extremely quality animation. MLP, Adventure Time, and Regular Show all have a special place in my heart mainly due to their quality animation and how they actually put effort into their shows. In a way, it's like a callback to the cartoons of yore, and how awesome they were. It helps that Lauren Faust also did a whole bunch of awesome stuff like Power Puff Girls, Codename: Kids Next Door, and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. Those shows were awesome, and the creativity in MLP shows.

Granted, sometimes I do find the brony fandom (of which I am a part of) a bit weird, mainly the more rabid of the fans, but what I really don't understand the hate towards it. I can understand not liking it, but the surprising amount of hate it gets kind of tells me that some people don't really have a sense of humor or something. Lighten up, afterall, it is a kids show!

Of course. That's something I can be thankful to ponies for, whenever I hear Twilight mentioned I now automatically think of an adorable purple pony rather than crimes against literature.

Some people like Pinkie and I'm okay with that. Rarity's voice and mannerisms make me all excited, in a very bad way, although I am very very fond of Twilight too. But yes, Spike has good taste. And he is best pony-who's-not-actually-a-pony.

Au contraire. Sometimes you have to go back to basics to fix a friendship. I'll give you just one example - everybody has that one neighbor. That one neighbor your mom doesn't like and they're passive-aggressive to each other over some tiny stupid shit that happened five years ago, probably at a get-together, probably having to do with somebody's cooking. But do they kiss and make up? NO! They stay passive-aggressive for the rest of eternity because it's too much trouble to talk things over.

And these kinds of things happen to people of all ages all the time for all sorts of reasons, men and women alike. My Little Pony is like a study guide for when your friendships are put to the test, because we really do forget these basics sometimes. And you can't heal a friendship if you don't even know the basics! I've been guilty of abusing a friend's generosity, and taking competition too seriously with another friend, and not letting my friends help me when I clearly needed it. These are all things that the show deals with at some point. Even lessons that we learned in Kindergarten can still fade with time. Reminders are nice once in a while.

Well, this being the internet, having "It's a sex thing" as a general rule of thumb isn't the worst idea.
