The Brothers in Arms series focuses on realism though. Not just graphic realism, but emotional realism. There are games like Battlefield Bad Company, and there are games like Brothers in Arms. Next will be a huge head, little car Brothers in Arms racer a la modnation. They could have avoided alot of rage by not adding Brothers in Arms to the title.dyre said:That was...outrageously retarded. The trailer, that is. At least they're not butchering the characters in the series though, so a future sequel can continue the story and pretend this new spinoff never happened.

Spin-off suggests it is somehow related to the original product, a spin-off would be more like a brothers in arms game focusing on the eastern front. This game is so alien that I only know its part of the Brother's in Arms franchise because it told me so.cursedseishi said:The plot to what...? How hard is it for some people to comprehend the game is a spinoff of the main Brothers in Arms series? I guess they should apologize though for not contributing to the already overly saturated WW2 market though huh? I mean hell, this is about the only route NOT taken to hell and locked down in games with the genre.octafish said:Is that real? Fuck me Gearbox have lost the plot. This makes me want to see Gearbox just go away. Jesus and I thought it was only Ubisoft who were this massively stupid in fucking up their IPs.
I will admit I never had the 'time' to touch the campaign when I had the game eons ago, only played the survival/skirmish mode (which as far as I remember, were fun as hell) with my brother at the time.dyre said:That was...outrageously retarded. Seriously, that's just the thing. It actually looks fairly interesting and fun on it's own merits. But I'm never going to play it because Gearbox has basically told me to go fuck myself. ALL THEY HAD TO DO was pick a different name.Sober Thal said:I think the game looks like it could be fun.
Considering I haven't enjoyed a single Brothers in Arms game, this could be a good thing.
Honestly, I think that it is just because of Gearbox's new image.Neverhoodian said:So I just watched the trailer for the latest Brothers in Arms game, "Furious Four."
My reaction:
Seriously, I'm pissed right now. The Brothers in Arms series is known for its historical accuracy, squad-based gameplay, and portraying the human cost of war. It's one of the few video game series that got me so emotionally invested in the characters that their deaths literally moved me to tears.
So WHY in the name of all that is holy would they reduce the series to this crass, shallow, juvenile abomination?! Not only does it not deserve the moniker of Brothers in Arms, but it's a slap in the face to the longtime fans. We wanted to find out what happens to Baker's squad. We wanted to know if the remaining characters will survive or not. We wanted the same pedigree of authenticity, drama, and squad elements that made the series stand above the glut of other World War II shooters. Not this...THIS...GRRRRARRRRRGGGGHHH!
What's your reaction to this? Do you agree, or am I overreacting?
The campaigns are quite good. I was skeptical about it at first, because "emotion" in video games tends to just be a cliched mess, but the series puts a lot of effort into making you care.cainx10a said:I will admit I never had the 'time' to touch the campaign when I had the game eons ago, only played the survival/skirmish mode (which as far as I remember, were fun as hell) with my brother at the time.dyre said:That was...outrageously retarded. How about they make a new IP then, instead of re-working an existing one until it's unrecognizable?cainx10a said:Tired of WW2 games and the usual oh-look-at-me-i'm-the-closest-thing-to-the-real-thing, how about we add things that games are missing? The fun! Yep, i am loving what I see so far![]()
But then they wouldn't get people making post about it. Therefore less publicity.Dense_Electric said:They could have also gotten a lot more sales by not adding Brothers in Arms to the title.
Fixed.Kevlar Eater said:Hey, you got your Serious Sam in my Inglorious Basterds.
The way I see it, the BiA series WAS unique because they actually made me give a crap about my allies. Instead of being little more than expendable human shields, each squad member in the game was a fully-fleshed out person, with their own unique personalities and backstories. Because of this, I genuinely cared for their well-being. This gave the deaths emotional weight, as it felt more like the loss of a human being instead of "nameless redshirt #47."bob1052 said:Its pretty obvious they stopped trying to be every other game out there with some bland (wannabe) hyper realistic shooter and instead decided to take their established brand and use it to release something that is essentially a new, unique IP that is more financially secure than an actual new IP.
Considering the Brothers in Arms games have all been underwhelming at best and painful at worst until now I'm willing to give this one a shot.
