Oh noes, now indigo has been a confirmed PS3 fanboy. That pissed on mah day.
In other news the sun is hot, water is wet, and Sony 'want some damn money!'

I'm sorry Jumplion, I swear I couldn't resist...

But if I'm honest, I'm not too bothered about this game right now. If it gets good reviews and gets cheap, I'll give it a shot when I've got some spare monies. Otherwise, nay for me.

Well, Jumplion, a game isn't just good because of it's graphics and gameplay.
Well that's a first I've heard from anybody. Usually everyone jizzes their pants and goes around saying "IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT THE GRAPHICZ IT'S THE GAMEPLAY THAT MATURZ!#@#%" when it wholey depends on the game and I really don't want to get into a rant about this because I've ranted about that topic a billion times.
Well, you do have to take what I'm saying with a pinch of salt. I am kind of biased against both graphics and gameplay, since one of my favourite genres (puzzle adventures) tend to have very little of the latter.

But you saved yourself when you said "humour, interesting stories and whatnot are just as important, if not even more so, as gameplay." because that's usually what I try to get at in those rants (though some are slightly more focused in certain aspects in some games), and that's why you see me say stuff in my original post with a variety of problems that I see in the gameplay footage I have seen so far.

Don't get me wrong, it looks hilarious and completely crazy, but to be completely honest I'm not too excited about it as I was at first.
I do see where you're coming from though. Gameplaywise, the game actually looks bland (though solid enough). It's nothing that hasn't been done before in any action rpg. Combat will eventually boil down to mashing the same combinations of buttons and yes, collision detection did look a bit off, especially in the hot rod bit. Overall, gameplay- and graphic-wise it looks like a few years old game, which is a shame. I will wait for the end product though. They still have a few months to polish the product.
They could have done more in this department, that much I agree with you. However, even though this is a mayor copout even in my ears, I'm going to cut Shafer some slack in this department. It's his first try at an action rpg-ish game, and only his second at a 3d game.

In the end, I'm not going to buy this game because of it's gameplay, but because of the cleverness, story and all-out awesomeness (though I will probably wait for some reviews).

that game is going to be awesome, although the hole free roam game has been done a lot lately.

This looks like it's gonna be my GOTY. I mean it has metal, Jack Black and large amounts of funny. Plus it's a Tim Schafer game. Can't wait.

And that's where the "different games prioritize different aspects of elements" comes in. Another example which I use to almost a frenzied way, Heavy Rain is not trying to blow away the gameplay department but it's rather trying to make a realistic set of a variety of things (realistic story, characters, sympathetic characters, environments you could believe, ect...) even if it's at the cost of making the gameplay more or less full of Quick Time Events (even though missing one does not mean game over)

But now I'm starting to rant, and I really don't want to have to repeat myself.

EDIT: now that I look at it, people aren't gushing over this game because of the "gameplay", they're jizzing their pants for the funnies. Pfft, and people scream "IT'S THE GAMEPLAY TAHT MATTURZ!#@$!", HA! I laugh at them now! HA HA HA!

I know, and I love Heavy Rain for it. As I said though: I'm biased. I don't think a game is good unless it has a good story and at least believable characters. A game which sacrifices story for gameplay (cough-GearsofWar-cough) is going to lose a shitload of kudos in my book, and will have to make up big time if it wants me to buy it.

But... but... Gamers are already socially backward, and if we're socially backward gamers, shouldn't we be normal?

Hey I was gonna say it, but didn't for fear of Nilcypher lurking round the corner...

You know how he feels about memes.
