Brutal Legend: Why do I hate it?

I've never even played it. But there's something about it that really, really puts me off. I'll try and explain...
I feel like it's the kind of game that trys to appeal to the wannabe. You know, the kind of person who listens to Guns 'n Roses, and uses 'awesome' as a sort of all purpose adjective. The person that thinks that they might possibly start playing guitar, maybe, in the future, (so long as it's not to difficult anyway) but still considers themself an expert on the subject. Y'know, the person next to the stage at a concert wearing a slogan t-shirt. Yeah, a t-shirt wearer.

I kind of associate Brutal Legend with that kind of thing mainly cos of my friend, who shall remain nameless.
"It's like a dream world."
"I wish I was like the people in this game!"
"Isn't Ozzy Osbourne awesome?!" - This on the day after he bought the game.

Anyway, are my fears justified? Apologies for the rant, I got a bit carried away.

What's wrong with wearing a T-shirt? I'm not exactly going to walk around in the nude, nor am I going to go out and stock my wardrobe with shirts.

Meh, anyway, So you don't like this game because your friend is acting a little bit like a fanboy? Good for you I guess?

It's probably like that for some people, but it looked more like a love letter to longtime metalheads to me. As much as I dislike Jack Black, I will admit that he knows his stuff in this area, so I doubt he'd mess it up too much.

But then, I haven't played it yet either, so I can't be sure.

i still dont see why some of these things put you off your explaining the person it should appeal to, when pretty much most the people who like the game like it for what it is not what it does.i love it because it mixes some really good concepts together like its a hack and slash game but instead of having to kill the bosses in huge boss battle you have stage battles which is rts. I thought the rts battles are implemented rather well for the game its self. The thing about the guitar too wouldnt they just buy guitar hero instead if they might start playing guitar its a action adventure game not a band game.
and the things your friends said are all true it is a dream world its not real never has been never will be, the middle one not so much, but ozzy osbourne is awesome not for being in the game but for writing awesome music which is also in the game.
play it and see for yourself u might be surprised to see that you actually like it.
soory for the rant

Allow me to clarify. This is the reason why I don't want the game. Is my supposition correct?

You're worried that people who like metal will play a game about metal?
I'm not WORRIED. Anyway I'm thinking about the people who like metal for really stupid reasons. Because they think it'll make them look cool.

How about this? Shut up and play the game?
It's a game that appeals to all types of metal heads either wannabe or hard core.
Play the game, have fun, don't make accusations based off nothing.

Wait wait, so you don't like a game you never played because you have a presupposed vision of who the game might appeal to?
Does that honestly seem logical?

I'm certainly not a fan of 'classic' metal, but the demo was a blast.
Why don't you try to play the game before not liking it?
Though it almost seems like you've made up your mind anyways.

well I Love metal and love Tim Shafer (I am truly sorry if i butchered his last name) so all in all I liked it, a bit too short and the end boss was a little too easy but I had FUN. At least it's original. We need more games that try to be unique. It's fine if you hate it but try to hate the game not the concept.

I think he meant "It's a dream come truuueeeee...." I dunno, it just irritated me.

You guys never had that thing where a person puts you off a game?

The accusations were based off my friend... I just need clarity on whether I can enjoy this without being sort of... Fan-boyish.

It's a game by people who love metal for people who love metal. So what if 'wannabes' like it?

That's what I'm trying to find out. Will I be irritated by this game constantly, or will I just enjoy it for what it is?

Hey man, don't diss the T-shirt wearer.

I'm a T-shirt wearer and I never listen to Metal.
