I hate those people who like things but not enough to live and breath it all the time. You should totally avoid this game just prove a point to those people even though the game is worth buying.
Not my point. I'm just wondering whether the game will irritate me by trying to pander to people who sort of PRETEND to live and breath it all the time. But it seems that's not the case.

hmm or is it you're secretly one of those people who won't dare to admit that that music is what is really truly metal? you know the thing Jack black makes fun off right at the start???? when you see him facepalm over the band he's a roadie for

see I go around in the scene and I know that 99% of the people who say they like metal actually mean heavy or death metal and that 90% will never even dare to admit that that's metal
Hold on there. I'm actually more into my classic rock, but that's not the point of the thread.

If I had either of the systems, I would buy this game in a heartbeat. I love the fact that the game is at least trying to be unique. I also happen to be a fan of hard rock/metal music. The combination of the two makes the game absolutely awesome. I can't really understand being put off by a game because of your view of the type of person that plays it. The only question should be, does it look fun to play? If so, check it out, if not don't. It's that simple.

I'mma stop you right there, and just say that not another word need be said. :)
Actually the main point was the final question. I have stated reasons why I have not bought the game and am looking for people to prove me wrong so I can buy (and enjoy) Said game.

Thanks for the input. Anyway, different games have different purposes. I'm worried that the target audience for this particular game is wannabe.
I removed my previous comment but just reading this line has changed my mind.

Take your head from your ass, stop judging a game based on a conversation with a friend who's acting a certain way because of it.

Go and play the demo and if you like the game based on the demo, then go and rent or buy it. But if you want to continue basing your unnecessary dislike on the shallow reasons you've actually posted, then go ahead. Just keep it to yourself next time.

just play the Demo. It's slick stuff, and there's a variety of things it has to show you. It's no flash in the pan. No siree! It's fsckin' hard core! ... Tongue in cheek hard core. :)

You're worried that people who like metal will play a game about metal?
I'm not WORRIED. Anyway I'm thinking about the people who like metal for really stupid reasons. Because they think it'll make them look cool.
If I may, can I get you to explain that statement a little more? Why should it matter why somebody likes something? You like metal, they like metal, sweet, you can listen to music together and talk about your favorite bands.

I'm failing to see why somebodies reasoning for liking something makes their enjoyment of said thing any less valid.

The game doesn't have Kurt Cobain singing Bon Jovi songs. I'll tell you that much.

I feel like it's the kind of game that trys to appeal to the wannabe. You know, the kind of person who listens to Guns 'n Roses, and uses 'awesome' as a sort of all purpose adjective. The person that thinks that they might possibly start playing guitar, maybe, in the future, (so long as it's not to difficult anyway) but still considers themself an expert on the subject. Y'know, the person next to the stage at a concert wearing a slogan t-shirt. Yeah, a t-shirt wearer.

I kind of associate Brutal Legend with that kind of thing mainly cos of my friend, who shall remain nameless.
"It's like a dream world."
"I wish I was like the people in this game!"
"Isn't Ozzy Osbourne awesome?!" - This on the day after he bought the game.

Anyway, are my fears justified? Apologies for the rant, I got a bit carried away.
Not really.

It's aimed at anyone who likes a good laugh and some good tunes.

A. How can you be sure that someone's entire motivation for getting into a style of music/book/etc is solely for "coolness"?

B. Most metalheads I know are convinced that metal is the only good music out there, shouldn't you be reveling in the fact that they're at least listening to "good" music, no matter what the motivation? Trying something out because they think it will make them popular will expose them to new things, and that's never a bad thing.

I guess I can't. But it's a really annoying a depressing thought.

Interesting point. But the fact still remains that they've gone out of their way to try and make themselves look better. It's a sad, sad state of affairs.

The game itself is more targeted at 'true' metalheads who grew up with Sabbath, Priest, etc... While I think that a lot of today's metal has it's merits, I grew up with these bands as well, so I can appreciate the roots of the game and the culture without getting too offended if it pokes fun at some of the new stuff I like.

If your friend only knows Ozzy as "the guy from Brutal Legend" and goes out and buys an Ozzy shirt, then we have a problem. I have several band T-shirts, but they're all bands I know, listen to and admire. Being a T-shirt wearer is fine if you at least have some fucking knowledge of what's on your shirt.

you don't like a video game because you are prejudiced against t-shirts?

what the fuck is that even supposed to mean? what are we supposed to discuss in this thread, your overwhelming ignorance? seriously, I don't even know what to say about this. video games are a way to escape reality, if brutal legend isn't the universe you're interested in, go back to playing halo or something. yeesh!

I dunno.. I think he kinda like Sabbath before, but the day after he bought that game he started having a fangasm over the very thought of them. Many is the time now he's subjected me to Bring the Noise featuring Zakk Wylde on Guitar Hero. Many is the time...

Who the fuck cares if this game is likely to attract wannabes?! If that's all that's keeping you from playing it you're a tosser, plain and simple. ANY game with a large pre-release hype will attract 'posers and wannabes' (or, in general, people you dislike due to not having much in common with them), now why would that keep anyone of sound mind to enjoy the actual experience?
Play it, and if you still hate it for whatever reasons the game didn't sit right with you, that's perfectly fine. But at the moment you're coming off as one of those annoying metalheads who think of themselves as über-true and who will condemn anything with high commercial success and mass appeal, like back when 'die-hard' Metallica fans spat at the band for making their first video and 'selling out'. It's like a small child whining and wailing because other kids want to play in the sandbox, too.

Yes. That is correct. The root of this thread stems from my overwhelming dislike of clothes. Up with nudity for a brighter future.

C'mon man, read the rest of the thread.

Y'know, when _I_ am calling you unreasonably elitist on the basis of these things, that's usually a bad sign.

I even agree with part of your foundation, but the development is just absurd.

THANK YOU! And last time I checked, hardcore metal heads don't think metal is cool, and they don't want it do be cool! Brutal Legend is entirely designed to put off haters, it's insular and unironic so it will only appeal to a limited base, just like metal music.
