Y'know, when _I_ am calling you unreasonably elitist on the basis of these things, that's usually a bad sign.

I even agree with part of your foundation, but the development is just absurd.

Allow me to clarify. This is the reason why I don't want the game. Is my supposition correct?

I'm not WORRIED. Anyway I'm thinking about the people who like metal for really stupid reasons. Because they think it'll make them look cool.
dude, with every culture and subculture there comes a group of people that want to get the benefits of that culture or subculture without having to commit to it, being a bit of a metalhead myself, fakes piss me off almost as much as people who criticize the culture without understanding it. The game would have been good no matter what genre of music had been used, but metal was a great theme, with a powerful history and a colorful culture that is wrapped up in a humurous and fun package. The game is aimed toward gamers who like metal and metalheads who play games, if it really bothers you that much then punch any emo or scene kids that play it and have a nice day.

you don't like a video game because you are prejudiced against t-shirts?

what the fuck is that even supposed to mean? what are we supposed to discuss in this thread, your overwhelming ignorance? seriously, I don't even know what to say about this. video games are a way to escape reality, if brutal legend isn't the universe you're interested in, go back to playing halo or something. yeesh!
Yes. That is correct. The root of this thread stems from my overwhelming dislike of clothes. Up with nudity for a brighter future.

C'mon man, read the rest of the thread.
I'm working on it, but why should I bother when the root of the discussion is so heinously conceived? you've demonstrated that you have a friend, who has some (somewhat immature) pretensions to metal fandom and that is your reason for not liking a video game. There is no line of logic connecting those points, period! If you let his idiocy affect your opinion, then his idiocy transfers to you. I refuse to discuss this game any further than what I mentioned in the last post until you tell me what exactly is wrong with standing next to a stage wearing a fucking t-shirt!

Same here. Can't stand the man. Shame, because the game could well be fun if he was deprived of speech.

Incidentally, I wonder who it was who decided that metal invokes this pseudo-medieval world image in general, because it's certainly not been the case for me, until we started getting bands like dragonforce and so forth putting forth what sounds like the energizer bunny on steroids with a guitar and a D&D game.

On the cool argument, I agree. Metal should not be there to be "cool", but the same goes for any music. It's just there to satisfy your taste in music.

Okay, you're looking for proof that your opinion is unfounded? There is none because its an OPINION!!! The game is fun and just the story mode is well worth 3/4 of the price, and the multiplayer looks very promising. If you aren't willing to buy a game because of the other idiots who play it to feel more like they are metalheads when they are not, then why would you buy a CD or listen to the radio, or even spend the time and space on your computer necessary to pirate the music? Because guess what!? Wannabees listen to the music to! Really, they game even makes fun of wannabees and hacks at the very beginning!

I HAVE. Your argument is simply ridiculously flawed. You condemn a video game you've never even played because one of your friends appears to be a poser. The only thing even remotely resembling a logical connection here is the soundtrack, but that alone does NOT define the game. You CAN'T hate a game you've never played, not if you want to keep you dignity in here. My argument still stands: until you actually played the game you're nothing but a kid going, "Waaaa, waaaaa, this guy claims he likes the music I like, but he can't because he's not as true as me! And it's all because of that stupid game I've never played, I hate it! Waaaaaaa!"

Anyway I get your point, and it has been made, and it is one of the reasons I'm close to changing my mind. I just need to rent it and judge it.

I don't like it either. I was immediately put off by the fact that it involves Jack Black, but it was sealed when it became obvious that it was aimed at (and best received by) the sort of people who think Tenacious D are hilarious and take Dethklok as a serious band.

I'm not arguing that it's a bad game. In fact, my main point has been resolved in the course of the thread. Stop being so abusive. Jesus, man, how would you like it if I started getting all pissed off at you without really understanding what you're trying to say.

I feel like it's the kind of game that trys to appeal to the wannabe. You know, the kind of person who listens to Guns 'n Roses, and uses 'awesome' as a sort of all purpose adjective. The person that thinks that they might possibly start playing guitar, maybe, in the future, (so long as it's not to difficult anyway) but still considers themself an expert on the subject. Y'know, the person next to the stage at a concert wearing a slogan t-shirt. Yeah, a t-shirt wearer.

I kind of associate Brutal Legend with that kind of thing mainly cos of my friend, who shall remain nameless.
"It's like a dream world."
"I wish I was like the people in this game!"
"Isn't Ozzy Osbourne awesome?!" - This on the day after he bought the game.

Anyway, are my fears justified? Apologies for the rant, I got a bit carried away.
I'm not gonna berate you like so many others have so far, but I will try to offer some advice.

Play the game, seriously. It's not at all what I expected, but I enjoyed it a lot. It's not the best game ever, but it's far from the worst.

Yes, some wannabes may like it because they're douchebags, but so what? Preventing yourself from enjoying something just because someone else likes it is like cutting off your dick to spite your balls. (pardon my French)

Also: what's wrong w/ t-shirts? (sorry if you answered that and I missed the response)

Not t-shirts in general. I'm talkin' bout the kind of person who has no blank t-shirts, but only band logo t-shirts to try and get across EXACTLY how awesome they are.
So to clarify, not the t-shirt but the t-shirt wearer.

I don't get this whole "You didn't play it; your statement is invalid" thing. It seems like he's looking for a rebuttal to the notion that he won't like it, which isn't invalid, if maybe a bit silly to put something like that one the heads of others.

I've always kind of been a fan of metal, torn between liking the music and despising the ridiculousness of the related culture. And while the soundtrack seems solid enough, there's nothing in the demo to forgive the overwhelming level of camp involved. I understand they toss in more elements after the demo, but none of them seem like they would be endearing enough to overcome the stale humour and atmosphere deserving of scorn. The game seems ridiculously superficial and an utter one trick pony, that one trick screaming "LOOK HOW METAL I AM!!!!oneoneoneone!"

Maybe that's not legit, but I don't see any reason to shell out 60 bucks or more to find out.

You are a human, you have your own opinion, live with it.
If you don't like something then that's not a problem even if there's a huge amount of people who say it's very likable. Me for instance I just can't get into harry potter, the more I see the more I get the urge to do something else completely unrelated to it.

The thread title indicates otherwise.
Still, you have conceded that you'll probably rent it, so it's fine I guess. (By the way, I just watched the new ZP and Yahtzee is basically right, but his reasons for disliking the game were not enough to put me off... the RTS stuff CAN be frustrating.)
I'm done hating here, I'll try to be more civil. No need for a restraining order, I'll show myself out the door.

Im trying to like the game. The graphics are cool, the soundtrack is great, the game play is fun.

The problem? Every time I get going and start getting into the game its stops for a fucking cut scene. I mean they are amusing enough and all that but its like listening to your favorite record or CD and then suddenly theres a scratch or it skips.

Love the soundtrack though. Its like someone reached into my head and took out all of my favorite songs that I've been listening to since the 70's.

Oh. I dig it. How old are you and your friend? The reason I ask is because I went through a phase like that too (and it'll probably pass). I still had blank tees, but I felt that I had to buy concert t-shirts when I went just to prove I cared about the music. I've since gotten away from that mentality but I still wear a lot of band t-shirts (mainly metal, obviously).

Honestly, the t-shirts I hate are those pre-faded pieces of shit.

I hate it because it was $59.99 and it sort of sucks.
Gameplay wise i completely agree, it had a kickass soundtrack and if they brought out a CD with the songs on it i`d race out to buy it , if only so i can listen to queen of desire over and over again but the RTS sections are really basic and boring
