If it doesn't interest you then it's not aimed at you.

The selling point is that it is exactly a Duke Nukem-esq foul mouthed shooter.

In a market over saturated with realism, I find this a welcome break.

Because I, like many others, am bored of Realistic shooters. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed all four recent Call of Duties, and both Bad Companies, but I'm glad that this year seems to be taking a more 'fuck you' to the CoD-gritty-brown'n'grey-war-shooter stereotype.
Games like Bulletstorm look like they're out there just for fun, likewise Duke Nukem. GoW3 and Red Faction never were the most serious of shooters.
And games like Crysis 2, Deus Ex and Spec Ops: The Line, while serious, are still miles apart from the CoD-stereotype in gameplay, setting and story terms.

I'm looking forward to this year immensely as a result. But frankly, I think the thread was already /threaded by the first answer. That summed it up, really.

I think the question here is whether or not you see video games as art. To, explain, the game is TRYING to be this sort of edgy, "I don't care" type of thing. I don't capitalize TRYING To show that I think it's failing in this respect - I want to emphasize that the creators are making a conscious decision to be counterculture. They aren't making the game for themselves - they are making the game for the consumer. Years from now, no one will look back at Bulletstorm as being particularly profound, but it will have sold well. In short, it's a sellout, and this takes away from its artistic merit. This is all clear, considering the advertising and how simple the premise of the game is. It's not really creative - there's just emphasis on the one dimension of over-the-top violence. If you don't see video games as art though, then this is all irrelevant.

Because the over the top weapons and gore from People can fly's Painkiller will meet epics over the top weapons and gore from their numerous games. soo... Because of all the over the top guns and gore. Oh and the fact that it can acknowledge the fact that its so over the top.

We play games because, in the end, real life is boring. If we make super realistic games, what's the point? It's time to have some fucking fun.

I don't get Buletstorm either, I think it looks gimmicky and I think I will grow tired of it real fast..

DNF on the other hand I'm so psyched about, because, In a world of faceless gritty military shooters that all try to be all serious and 'realistic', I need Duke to come along with a shooter that focuses on having fun blowing pig-men up with rocket launchers or shattering enemies frozen solid by your freeze canon.
A game that makes you giggle when you play instead of cursing because you got killed for the 5. time by the enemies who spawns and shoots at you from all directions.

Ive seen a bunch of people on this board fired up about Bulletstorm and i honestly cant tell why. Can someone please explain why this Duke Nukem-esq foul mouthed shooter is getting so much hype? I usually like the games epic puts out but i don't get why shooting a random baddie in the ass 4598309 times and then listing to a 12 year old swear is so awesome.
It's meant to be a mockery of FPS games and how stupid they get; this game is purposefully designed to be stupid.

Theres none of that seriousness behind most shooters you know like for instance you CAN kik a dude of a building and Then a One linear would happen like 'Have a Nice Fall' and its funnier

What can u do in CODBO throw a guy off a building and there all serious about like 'good job mason' while this is more serious and trying to be epic

Really you don't think you'll giggle in bulletstorm but you will in DNF? I know for one it'll be a long time before i stop finding the ability to shoot off a butt flap and fill the arse inside full of bullets funny. Where as hearing the same old Duke Voice quote the same old phrases he has been saying for decades will have a longer lasting comedic effect?

Nope, I don't think so. I see the gameplay footage and think: "Meh.. Is there a point to impaling these blokes on the giant cacti? and getting a score for it.." The only reasonable explanation I can think of is that to progress the game you'll need a score of x amount, and then it becomes a chore doing it.. And if not, then it's just a gimmick..

And yes, I still chuckle at DN3D. Maybe I'm just a very simple man of simple needs.

I don't get how having score boards and such "gimmicks" will be any different from the ONE gimmick that duke has had since the beginning, that one gimmick that hasn't really changed much whatsoever since the start. At least Bulletstorm is putting something new on the table.

Because it looks like it'll be fun a throwback to 90's action games, with different competitive modes, cool weapons, etc.

Pretty basic, really...

The difference is that if the scoreboard is a necessity to progress in the game, it will become tiresome having to rack up points. And if the points aren't needed for anything but showoff, then why implement the point system in the first place? It will just lead to spamming of a few of these 'skillshots' or w/e it is called.
But each to his own, and I wont deny that if Bulletstorm gets a demo, I will want to try it out. I might get a happy surprise.
