endnuen - a score-based system encourages you to compete against yourself, so even if it's not necessary it will engage you more in the game because it's competition without other players... and their goddamn mic spam.

Bulletstorm is not a competitive multiplayer game, it's co-op only. You don't have to hear any 12 year olds on it if you don't want to.

And if you don't enjoy shooting random baddies 4598309 times then.... why play any shooter?

I reckon it looks shit.
So, not everyone.

But the fucking dialogue and the fucking voice acting, jesus christ. I'm staying away from it for just that.
That's kind of the joke. It's sending up macho shooters.

Because I'm sick of "dramatic" shooter campaigns after last year's bounty of them.

IT'S TIME TO BLOW SHIT UP AND FEEL LIKE AN UBER-BADASS!

Modern Warfare can go fuck itself. That series needs to die forever. Call of Duty in general needs to die forever.
Really? In a thread about Bulletstorm of all things?

OT: Because shooting people is what you do in a shooting game, and the shooting looks fun in this one.

And what 12-year olds? It's not multiplayer, you know, and I'm pretty sure the voice actors are not kids.

The difference is that if the scoreboard is a necessity to progress in the game, it will become tiresome having to rack up points.
I highly doubt that the points would be required to progress through the game.
And if the points aren't needed for anything but showoff, then why implement the point system in the first place? It will just lead to spamming of a few of these 'skillshots' or w/e it is called.
But each to his own, and I wont deny that if Bulletstorm gets a demo, I will want to try it out. I might get a happy surprise.
Didn't reach have some sort of scoring through the single player campaign? Whats it matter? LOADS of people out there love the old school idea of racking up high scores, is that so bad? It changes the game from just run around shoot dude, shoot dude, open door, to look around, whats the craziest/coolest/funniest way I can off this room full of baddies? Impale 2 guys on re-bars, blow another 3 to oblivion after throwing them into the air and shoot off the last guys arse before screaming obscenities at the squad mates. Then after all that you can see if your mates got through the section with better combos and crazier kills.

Lots of people people (me included) keep going back to Doom. It's considered a timeless classic. Why? Because we yearn for the days when shooters were like Doom: fast, frantic, chaotic and pure childish fun. Your typical shooter these days is all about gritty realism.

While I appreciate a game with depth, games can often get bogged down in realism and end up sacrificing aspects of gameplay that would make it fun. It's refreshing to play a game that just says "Y'know what? Fuck being serious, let's just make this game a hell of a good time!"

That's the appeal of Bulletstorm. You don't have to share that opinion, but now you can at least understand it.

Don't you know, Journey?

It's really cool now to hate on CoD. Even in threads about another FPS game.

I also find it odd how CoD, a game that's actually quite over-the-top and mental at times, isn't actually getting PRAISE from the Bulletstorm people. The paper-thin storylines mostly serve as a backdrop to let you do cool shit. Like outrun an avalanche and parachute down into the middle of a gunfight. Play on Regular or Recruit and you've got crazy-fun.

I don't particularly get the interest either.

Alright, I'd laugh at all the innuendo'd kill moves the first few times, and it's quite pretty, but ultimately it seems quite forgettable. Then again, I never looked at the Expendables line-up and thought it was "fucking awesome", so there you go. (I did, however, look at their matching black berets and uniforms and laugh my fucking arse off - I mean, are you kidding me?!)

Anyway, different strokes for different folks I guess.

I'd imagine it has been so since November 2009.

Call Of Duty IS the over-the-top and mental shooter. Yet one that gets hate for it being realistic and too serious and the story being too bad.

The story in Doom sucks, too, guys. The story in Bulletstorm will probably suck. That's not what you come to the games for?

Well, people play CoD campaigns not for the story, but for the gameplay and the setups. Not everyone playing the game is a "rightwing ultra-patriotic redneck conservative turned on by the American military fantasy".

Yeah. But now it's cool to do it ANYWHERE. You can hate it in a boat. You can hate it on a float. You can hate it in the rain. You can hate in on a train.

You can hate it in totally unrelated thread on another site about anime. (Saw that one a few days ago!)

Generally followed by quotes of agreement.

Totally unrelated, but your poetry is an inspiring piece of awesome and genious.

Also, really, anime threads and CoD hatred overlap?

I'd wager its a nice change from the usual shooters we normally have. Call of duty, The conduit, halo (all of them)) and just about any good shooter these days. The protagonist is often either silent, an "every man" or in the case of black ops, he's an Everyman with serious mental issues

Not saying the above are bad things, just the rude mouthed approach seems like a good change of pace for a bit

I like the look of bullet storm and the "kill with skill" thing, mixes things up a little.

Ive seen a bunch of people on this board fired up about Bulletstorm and i honestly cant tell why. Can someone please explain why this Duke Nukem-esq foul mouthed shooter is getting so much hype? I usually like the games epic puts out but i don't get why shooting a random baddie in the ass 4598309 times and then listing to a 12 year old swear is so awesome.
Because it isn't the same old Call of Duty/Halo crap that FPS games have turned in to. It is like how they used to be back when I was growing up (and judging by just how you worded your post, I'm thinking that was back before you were old enough to play games). It will be good to have a shooter that is actually FUN again. Plus I loved Painkiller (made by the same people) and NecroVisioN (made by some people from People Can Fly, and along the same lines with the kill combos).
