Better equipped does not mean life gets better. Sometimes life just shits on you, and adults get a lot less help and sympathy than someone still in school.
I disagree. Because one is better equipped to deal with adversity (hopefully), that in itself does make life better. I got zero help with my issues when I was in highschool. Partly because I didn't know how, or was afraid to, ask for help. And I can't speak to your situation, but for me, anyone in my family or general circle of friends will be there to help me should I need it. That didn't end when I left highschool.

What happened in New Orleans is a wonderful example (since a great deal of people ousted by Katrina moved to Portand where I live). When Hurricane Andrew decimated Florida, response was there in a short time. Katrina hit, and the US let New Orleans drown because Miami had a lot of money, and New Orleans doesn't. Simple as that. There is literally nothing you could have done to avoid this, there wasn't a decision you could have made that wouldn't be a losing one.
I think your views are cynical, jaded and terribly misguided. The US let new orleans drown because we don't have money? Simple as that? Who has fed you such nonsense? Plenty of things went wrong here, and were mismanaged, but thats some deranged reasoning if you think the motivation was because we don't have the same economic status as miami.

And yet people in a position of power will whine about survivors there like they're mooching off the government because (As one Louisiana politican put it) "THEY WERE TOO STUPID TO GET OUT OF THE WAY" like moving away on a moment's notice is that fucking easy.

(Sorry, friends from New Orleans, and they get this shit all the time from ignorant fucks)

Those people who survived are being bullyed by adults, except that instead of a teacher or principal they can go to, they're being put down by the people who are essentially the school board.
Yea, there are plenty of circumstances where people get shit on unfairly. I am trying not to sound combative, not sure how well it will all come acorss. And hey, maybe it is different for other people, but for me, nothing will compare to the isolation and utter despair I felt in highschool at times. The support was always there for me, I just never saw it. Now I do. So regardless of how bad things get, at least I won't feel alone in it.

People need to stop telling kids to "take the high road". If somebody bullies you and as usual, the school does nothing, then kids should feel able to fight back.

If the school doesn't want that, then they should've done something about the bullying, shouldn't they?

It's all very well to say that people should just fight back, but that doesn't tend to work very well in the really real world. If it was that simple, the problem wouldn't be there.

The only way that the problem could really be dealt with is if schools and other institutions cared enough to actually do something, and society let them.

In the meantime, they should stop the pretence of zero tolerance, and proudly declare "We don't fucking care". At least that would be honest.

Most cases Teachers are not incompetent. and aware of the bullying. But all the Red tape and Political correctness stop them for doing anything about it.

If the intervene they risk losing their jobs for stepping out of bounds.

the problem is the PC movement and bureaucrats have taken any power away teaches and previously held disciplines.

parents are too busy working or not caring.

the Internet gives people the freedom to do as they wish with little chance of physical retribution.

the problem is society as a whole as allowed this to happen

Violence, or rather, the threat of violence always worked growing up. It's been almost two decades in a more sane time when it came to bullying, but it was effective.

Bullies are cowards and opportunists. Make yourself too much trouble to mess with, even if you fight like crap and they back off. It's just not worth the trouble of getting your face smashed.

Like I said, sane time. Back then I'd get my required punishment but the school faculty knew me enough (and knew the bullies enough) to know I wasn't the aggressor and read between the lines as much as they could get away with when it came to being suspended.

In Junior High things weren't always that way, but I took my punishment with pride. I knew where I stood and it was the right thing to teach that trash a lesson.
On the flip side just give them a hug. I mean it that's how I did it. Some guy was, I'm going to say trying, to bully me then I just said "you need a hug" then I ran up and gave him a hug. Didn't say a word to me after that. I just made him feel uncomfortable I guess.

Everyone knows about bullying. If you want to truly bring it really into the public eye, take a paint gun to your nearest school and start tagging all the bullys. You'll likely get arrested but it will make headlines.

Well yes, they set out to bully you, you upped the ante by taking the first step towards rape :p

Urgh, another Amanda Todd thing.

I feel little sympathy towards her. From what I've heard, the situation she was in was partly her fault in the first place with some of the actions she's done. Not saying it's her fault completely but you know, some of the choices she made didn't help.

Also there's a reason people don't do anything about bullying. Because people spend too much time making too many bully awareness videos on youtube instead of actually doing something about it. If someone really cared they'd be out there helping people, not liking facebook statuses, or putting up youtube clips with those flip cards (which has been done to death by now in my opinion). I mean no offence, it's a good subject you're fighting for (anti bullying and all that jazz), but there is surely more things that could be done to contribute to the effort.

Argh, yes. So many people think that clicking "like" on a FB petition somehow makes the world a better place, and that they've done their bit and aren't obliged to go do anything more.

I agree that the attempt is probably well-intentioned, even if futile, though. Personally I'd recommend anyone wanting to do anything about the problem researching it further, people who are passionate about issues they've adaquately investigated are often worse than useless.

There are always going to be bullys just human nature unfortuntley.

Even in the work place you will come across bullys in the company i work in for example Billing have a large group of middle age women whom are total bitches to anyone not in the billing team.

People are cunts.

They always have been and they always will be, it's hard but you just need a good friend or good few friends to lean on. Which can be harder said than done.

Edit : we've all been to highschool . It's a jungle , and the weakest get picked off . Sad , but true . Then again , life after highschool is way worst . If you can't get past highschool . Real life will eat you alive .
And it's that kind of tacit approval that ensures nothing changes.

Was the whole Amanda Todd shit storm not enough?
Considering how many times it was written off, ridiculed, or even outright blasted, I'd say it wasn't enough.

Eh, it happens. Aye, tragedies happen, but then, the world isn't a nice place, and nor is a solid chunk of the human population. You either learn to roll with it or be crushed by it.

It's time to leave the awareness phase.

Everyone is aware that bullies exist, everyone is aware (or in denial) that it's a big problem. Yay, mission accomplished. Time to tackle the next mission: DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT WITH THE SUPPORT YOU'VE GAINED.

I never understood why people let themselves get bullied, and even more confusing why kill yourself? Why not kill them? Or better yet ruin them. Smash their spine or something and leave the crippled for life, serves them right. If they want to act like an animal than treat them like one.

I think it has something to do with the fact that bullying helps makes you feel helpless. It's hard to feel you have any control when it's a group against a single person. It's not like you let them do it and to many it feels like if you tell someone what happened then more people will spring up to get you for speaking out.

Hell, one guy I know used to get bullied in his teens because his mother suffered from mental illness and used to beat the crap out of him regularly as a child. When a group of teens his age took it too far, he punched one in the face and left them running. Then the next day their older brothers showed up and beat him to the ground.

Even if it's not physical, one of my closest friends was mocked all his school years for being German and was ostracised whenever he tried to talk to anyone, pretending they couldn't understand him because of his non-existent accent. If anyone did talk to him they underwent the same treatment. What do you do when it's the majority of your school-year bullying you? They can't suspend over a hundred people.
What the fuck? That actually happened? I wouldn't stand for that. Did the kid even do anything to try and stop them? Talk to Teachers, Principals, hell the Police? This kind of stuff should be illegal.
