Smaller companies often partner with Activision for a cash and distribution boost without any detrimental affect to their business. Blizzard did this and they are still 100% independent when it comes to game development. We all know how Blizzard love to take their sweet ass time making games and they stick to their core IP's, Activision haven't managed to beat them to bring out a game a year of sub standard quality or make any weird peripheral based games :p

That being said, Blizzard was quite a lucrative fish for Activision to reel in and they have a very strong leadership and history in the gaming community. Many independent developers might let Activision exert more control than they should which could be to the detriment to the company's development but Bungie are just as strong a company as Blizzard so I don't foresee any bad things to come from this partnership.
Sadly Blizzard as an independent company does not exist since 1997, when was merged to Vivendi Games owned by Vivendi Universal. Vivendi Games were sold to Activision in 2007, being the price payed 52% of Activision shares back to Vivendi immediately and further 14% (totalizing 68% of Activision shares) within the subsequent year. Blizzard exists as a very strong brand of games that still have its own exclusive dedicated team. Its like Seat, Skoda and Audi still producing cars when just Volkswagen exists as a company and owns the rest as brands.

RIP Bungie, you're making a deal with the devil, and it probably won't end well for anyone except the greedy assholes at Activision.

All hope of me buying another Bungie game (slim though it was already) has dropped to zero, since I refuse adamantly to buy anything with Activisions brand name on it.

I can imagine it now: Call of Halo: Future Space Shooter no. 8945

Oh well. If this means I get Bungie games on the PC, I'm fine with it.

It makes sence. Limiting your product to 1 console always sounds stupid from a business PoV to me.

Interesting to see where Bungie goes now as far as games.
Hint: It will be an FPS, Halo to be more exact.
Well not in name, but you get the idea.
How do you know it won't be a new Marathon (in name this time)? Or Oni, Or a Myst Myth MMO/RTS.

Or something completely different, I suspect they've got a bit sick of doing FPS everything for the last eight years.
Its not that I don't think Bungie would like to make those games, but they are working on a new IP and the people holding the purse strings are Activision.
