This will be a quality game no doubt. Bungie are doing well for this game.

Personally I see it as a sort of "Halo/Lost Planet Gameplay with MMO and Mass Effect Style Elements."

Connecting our iphones to the game itself really does feel MMO based.

Can't wait to play!

Stupid? No, not really.

Sounds pretty generic
it sounds like this - generic, boring, old...and I guess "safe". It's a known formula reaches its apex, beats it to dust, saves them, rebuilds itself (optional - it's doing it now). Variations and permutations of this are all over the place - Fallout, Mass Effect (OK, this is taking after another trope but it fits here as well), Arcanum, Hellgate, etc. It's not original by a large margin but it's a good foundation - it's safe, as I said.

The Escapist is bound to cover this in an official capacity soon I'm sure, but let's just get one thing out in the open first and foremost:

Destiny will require an internet connection to work

That is, unless things have changed within the past four days. That's an internet connection for everything, even single player games. It's not a big deal for most of us, but it will be for a few.

There is no single player, didn't they already admit it was a cross between an MMO and FPS.

BTW the website is up now.

That's true from what's been written so far. I guess what I really meant was whether or not you're playing alone. I think I was confused over how...vague things have been with details regarding the game.

"The entire game can be played solo, from start to finish, Bungie confirms, but solo doesn't seem to be the point."

HOLY CRAP that looks awesome.
I'm a PS3 user and so I haven't played Halo. Also I haven't played any other MMO games in a long time so this'll be something new. It sounds quite interesting and while they haven't shown much depth in any of the elements or how it basically functions it looks awesome and I will definitely consider it.
The one thing I do have an issue with however is the price- they've said there will be no subscription price, but if this is as big-scale as they suggest then surely it'll cost at least £60-£70?

Big write up on Kotaku. Looks pretty cool.
If all of that is true, then a) I will eat my hat and b) I want this so bad. I can't help but wonder though, how much of that is really going to be in the game? It sounds like an ambitious amount of content. Still, if they can actually pull this off, then it will be absolutely amazing.

They're calling it a 'shared world shooter' but from what I've seen it looks like an mmo. Just with more focus on individual players. Could be wrong though. Other than that it looks like a mix of halo, planetside 2, and with a hint of mass effect thrown in. (I personally think the ME series will be a kind of benchmark for what people want from a sci-fi shooter for next years.)

Eugh. It had my interest from the trailer and then it lost it all when I saw it was some kind of MMO.

Well then if you haven't played Halo before, let me at least say that Bungie know what they're doing. They stretch out their announcements over a long period and release video segments like this every month or so to show us new stuff, tending to focus on core elements. For example, the first Halo Reach ViDoc showed us basics of the single player, then they had one on weapons, one on how enemies function and why they chose certain enemies over others. If you pay attention, you'll know more about the game soon enough. Bungie dont skimp when it comes to telling you what you'll get.

Feel free to get excited friend. A Bungie game guarantees a couple things. LOTS of content, some of the smoothest shooting ever (with a focus on movement over sheer accuracy), a very solid in house engine, pretty environments, and fantastic music.

Hmm.... Ok. Looks like Bungie's trying to do for console MMOs what they did for console FPS.

I'll wait and see. And probably ignore it if it doesn't come to PC.

I can't wrap my head around it. Bungie had the power to do anything they wanted after gaining independance. Instead, they chose to sign up with Activision to make another science fiction shooter that will have 4 installments.

I can't wait to see how this pans out. The art and concept so far are excellent.

Now if only they'd release on PC.
Leaked contract details said it will realease on PC, XBox 360, and it may find its way onto PS3 if they can port it properly.
as much as i hate to say it, activision has such fat fucking pockets thanks to blizzard and COD i'm sure it'll fund the hell out of this project, they essentially just contracted their competition (back in the day it always used to be halo 3 vs cod4 and such in terms of popularity) so it's a smart move on their part i think. (not to say i like activision, i hate their dlc policies and their outrageous prices.)

OT: Seems interesting so far, and i do like bungie, so we'll see where this goes.

hm, knowing activision there will be SOME kind of shakedown system. Either micro transactions or regular, expensive DLC packs ( A La COD). :/ Or like you said, a much higher price of entry.

OT: You can definitely see and hear the halo in there. But thats no bad thing :p

Not much info to go on, but looks interesting so far. Knowing bungie there will be a distinct focus on the multiplayer.

I think I saw this plot before in Jak 2. Ok kidding, but it dose sound fairly generic. It's the fall of Rome again. Not that it's bad thing, but I am a little tired of it.

An "Always Online FPS" with strict "Multiplayer Focus" without a subscription fee on consoles published by Activision Blizzard? Pass.

The F2P elements haven't been announced yet, but they're well on their way. Activision Blizzard doesn't publish any game unless it has an alternative revenue stream on top of retail and boxed sales - it's company policy, and has been for quite a while.

Sorry Bungie, you tethered your carriage to the wrong horse this time.

i hear alot of negativity on the "looks like Halo front", but thats something i wouldn't mind. The creative tactical freedom the size of halo levels really is something worth doing again because no ones doing it, including halo games since the end of the trilogy.

its clear that bungie is going for something big on the game play front rather than on the narrative front, instead entrusting narrative more to the player sense of exploration and that could be fun.

I'm just glad to see Bungie hasnt lost their sense of whimsy(as early concepts suggested), I've always found something vaguely arthurian in the science fiction of Bungie and I'd like to see that continued.

I am a bit nervous about classes which i assume theyre doing, that will be a challenge for bungie i think
. And i am sad that i probably won't be able to afford playing this game online.

edit-on the game buisness cynisism i trust bungie.

This Feels a lot like Halo. IF I can play as one of the invading aliens (Because those things looked pretty cool), then I will consider it. If I can only play as Master Chief, then I do not want.

And I feel I should add this:

Come on, Game Developers! You make these kind of space-based RTS's with these Crazy alien creatures and you always, always, make us play as Humans. Humans are boring! Especially compared to things like Brutes and Elites, the various creatures from Mass Effect, the Alien Monsters from Gears of War, the Aliens from Half-Life, and so on. Let us play as those aliens, darn it! I wanna conquer Humanity, not save it! Give us the option!
