I know, because they're common pets. Whenever people hear horrible stories about dogs they can't help but project all the dogs they've loved into that position. Still, it bugs me.fix-the-spade said:Dogs don't make a good sunday roast.
Also, it's less widespread and Dogs are an easy PR score for shock stories.
The HORROR! The horror that is this paragraph. I think it burned my eyes. /hyperbolePointer said:This shit is very much real in Mexico. People die every day on the borders, and the Mexican military has to deal constantly with bombings, kidnappings, and open assault. Its at the point where the police need to have tanks in Mexico in order to crack down on the Cartels. That's not even scratching the surface on corruption either. Its one of the reasons that I did not support the legalization of marijuana in California.
Congratulations sir. I hope you didn't hurt yourself on those big words. Turn on your local spanish news and you will see a news story about the latest actions in the Drug War. Its very much real and very much a problem. But you don't have to believe me.strobe said:The HORROR! The horror that is this paragraph. It did make me shout "What?" several times. The logical flaws in this statement are just horrendous. Conflation and "thin end of the wedge" are things that come to mind.
...Shocking Root, shocking...The_root_of_all_evil said:That's a poultry display of fire power. I hope there wasn't anyone egging him on in this fowl attack on his liberties. He might have deserved a bit of bird but this seems really chicky. I hope this plucky farmer was able to egg-stricate himself.
I stopped laughing at your edit when I realised you weren't joking...GrimTuesday said:-snip-

Pretty slow to become high and mighty there, mate. Oh wait, you started that way.Pointer said:Congratulations sir. I hope you didn't hurt yourself on those big words. Well I could see your point but I said support, not vote for. I don't live in California. And it might be surprising for an American, but I thought that an escalation of the drug war might be a bad thing for the people living there. I don't think pot is a horrible drug nor am I against the legalization of the drug but the fact that other people would die for those drugs is not something I could live with.strobe said:Pretty slow to become high and mighty there, mate. I know that drugs are an awful problem in Mexico and the country's pretty fucked up at the moment but I wasn't commenting on that. I was commenting on the fact that you based your decision to vote down the legalization of a drug on events in Mexico.
I did come at you with an improper tone and I apologise but I still think that your argument is horribly flawed.
I didn't actually see any big words in that post, but whatever. The point (lol, pun intended) of Strobe's post was that you decry the evils produced by the "Drug War" and then say you didn't support legalizing marijuana. The problem there being that if we legalized these drugs, rather than fighting a futile and expensive "war", the drug cartels causing a near civil war in Mexico would almost instantly lose all their funding as legitimate businesses produced cheaper and safer drugs. The most lethal blow we can deliver to the drug cartels is to just legalize the crap.Pointer said:Congratulations sir. I hope you didn't hurt yourself on those big words.
