This guy has some pretty weird teaching methods. I mean, couldn't he just explain?

I wonder if he had a ruler and would pause the video to point things out
Man I lol'd at that thought. The image in my mind is that of a man with a laser pointer, pacing around the room, with a mustache and a German accent, giving out instructions like a drill Sergent.

OT: I mean I'm all for sex ed and stuff, but I don't know about this. The extent of showing pornography to children in order to get the message through..is a bit weird. It'll be like having porn at school sex-ed classes for teaching kids about sex. Surly, a simple explanation would suffice..

There's a lot you can teach a kid about sex from pornography. When i hit puberty, my Dad offered to sit down and watch a porn with me and discuss it. Naturally I refused, but I appreciated what he was trying to teach me.

8 and 9 does seems needlessly young, though.

For all of you idiots saying "Wow, porn is FANTASTIC way to teach my kid about sex! All sex is the same so what does it matter?" I hope you never have children. My parents were VERY forthcoming with information about sex. I'm not afraid to talk about it, and never was. I feel comfortable talking to my parents about anything.

That being said, how can you POSSIBLY think a porno is the best way to teach about sex? The whole point in talking to your kids about it isn't to teach them the best techniques...that's for them to learn and discover, especially since what works for one couple might not for another. It's about teaching the SAFETY of sex. How women get pregnant. How you could get an STD. How having sex affects a relationship, both in great ways and potentially negative ways. A porno shows none of this.

I don't see it as all that different as from those lame ass health-class books. Just more intersting.

We should be encouraging parents to talk to their kids about sex before they go trying to figure out for themselves.

As long as the dad wasn't making them PERFORM any of these acts, I see no major issues here.
What did they learn from watching the porno besides what sex looks like? How is that helpful? Lets be honest here; before we had sex ed (either in class or with parents), most of us knew what sex looks like. I think you're focusing more on the fact that people don't want to show their kids the ugly truth of sex...and while I wholeheartedly agree that parents should be much more forward with their kids about sex, porn is not a very useful way to do it.

Admittedly, the man probably had some good intentions just to teach his daughters about something that is both very beautiful and natural. But with hardcore pornography...*Ugggghhhhhh*

I just couldn't think of any other way to end this post.

Well I know for a fact some kids watch porn anyway (back when I was younger, like 10-12 the kids I hung out were veeeeery open about it o_O). But still the reason they probably do it in the first place is because no one is teaching them or telling them wtf it is exactely. He should of just been straight up with his kid(s). Because showing them that would likely just scar them for life o_O. Besides they were fairly young weren't they? Way too young probably, Just bah parenting sure has gone to hell (not in all cases).

I heard this story a while back from the local news network. Worst part is that he got away with it. Apparently under Texas Law you're allowed to teach your kids about sex through hardcore pornography. The System sucks somtimes...
As the song goes..."f*ck the system".

Sex is sex, whether you actually watch it on some out dated educational video or program or a movie with fancy angles and music in the background it's still the same.
No it isn't.

Sex in a caring loving relationship is very very different to the sex you see in your average hard-core porn film.
no, sex is sex. the act is the same. the only difference is the feelings you have towards the person.
Which is quite a big difference.

The caring loving side is only one aspect of many that are attainable through sex, but that's a whole other topic.

I didn't mean it in a personal sense though, only as a means of media. I have seen some educational videos on sex and they are just a graphic as pornography, it just isn't glorified and doesn't have the flashy lights and fake tits. Presentation is half battle.
How graphic it is isn't the point.
Educational videos either show sex as a sterile thing or a loving thing. Your average porn movie shows sex as a dominant thing. To a child this difference in attitude is quite obvious, even if only subconsciously, and has the potential to warp their future sexual encounters.

Oh god.
Oh please no.
The Texas Stereotypes are bad enough, this is just going to end up reinforcing everyone thinking texans are some damn morons with stupid voices who dress like cowboys and do incest, and nao they show pr0n to kids.
I am not happy with this at all, and the next few months shall not be fun for texans like me if it becomes a popular news story.

I honestly can't think of a better way to teach someone about the mechanical act of sex then to show them porn.

seriously, when we were kids, and our parents WERENT showing us pornography, we were confused as fuck as to how it really works.. Especially little guys. I mean, we know we have a penis, and we know it can get hard, and we know it has to go SOMEWHERE, but honestly, we're flummoxed as to exactly where it's supposed to go. Even just looking at naked girls doesn't help, because softcore stuff, even in movies, doesn't show the actual vagina. I can't speak for little girls as I wasn't one, but for little guys, it's sort of like, having a nickle, and having a piggy bank without a slot in the top and wondering how the fuck it's supposed to work.

I think if my kid asked me what sex actually looked like, I'd have to show them some porn. I mean, as long as you don't use it as a model for relationships, and as long as you don't chain them down and whip it out while watching it, then I see nothing wrong with it.

edit: and yeah, I know 8 or 9 is probably too young to have the intimate details talked about, and the content of the video would have to be pretty heavily scrutinized for it to even be in the "ok" range, but I don't think the guy should be charged with any sort of child abuse or endangerment.

well i aint an adult but ive seen enough to know that you shouldnt be showing 9 and 8 year olds HARDCORE porn
i mean sure if they were older and had already shown that they were curious it would be fine to show just normal porn
but this is just a bit too much

Porn doesn't really teach you anything about real sex.

Things porn lied to me about.

1. Foreplay is when you make the girl choke on your penis.

2. Those awesome sex positions are actually pretty uncomfortable and impractical in real life.

3. Don't bother about her enjoyment, just concentrate on yours.

4. The girl loves having you ejaculate on her face.

I watched porn from a young age but I actually learnt how to please a woman from all those late night sex documentaries they used to show in the UK.

10 things not to do when your son is in puberty. I thought of point 4 when I read the above quoted ^

It's in German with English subtitles but still funny.

OT: I though I had incredibly awkward moments when my parents were 'teaching' me about sex.

Thinking back I'm not sure how I learned about sex. I never got "the talk" which means I have never understood what birds and bees have to do with sex because I'm pretty sure it's not that the birds and bees have sex together because that just wouldn't work, I mean the queen bee is the only breeder in a colony and birds lay eggs and... never mind. I'll probably just google it one day. I hear butterflies are involved.

What I do remember though is getting a hotmail account and being sent a lot of porn, one of which I cheerfully opened up one day to see what all the fuss was about. I imagine from there it escalated. I was... twelve I think. So I learned about sex through hardcore pornography and it didn't effect me i any negative way. I mean aside from the relationship sabotaging and the casual insanity but I'm prepared to put those down to completely different matters.

(Okay I searched on Wikipedia and that answer just complicated matters. What dumb arse though this bird and bee thing up?)

Well I would agree that this is a terribly bad thing to do, but we have no evidence beyond that of the incredibly biased and exaggerated creator of that article. How do we know it was anywhere near as traumatising as he is saying?

Yes, showing some types of porn to children is just wrong. But kids are starting with sex at really young ages now, like 12..So if the porn was a bit more tame than the article claims, the ages aren't all that bad really.

And my parents never gave me that talk, I think they just assumed I'd work it out for myself. It's going OK so far..

its actually illegal in many states to have anything other than regular sex, no oral, etc etc. this is what happens when we give up freedom for the illusion of safety.
