But I might need it later...

Sorry to parrot a catch phrase from one of Yahtzee's vids, but this is something that really fascinates me because I always experience it. What are some of your most noteworthy moments of this when you didn't want to use a certan weapon, ammo, finite spell, enchanted weapon (Oblivion), etc because you really wanted to conserve it "just in case" a challenge or obstacle later on demanded that you use it?

For me this happens on Oblivion in which I never use any enchanted weapons or staffs because I might need it later for stronger enemies or those who are immune to blunt attacks (which I'm currently using). Turns out it payed off because I needed a staff and an enchanted sword to kill the ghost of Logren in the end of the "The Spirits Have Lease" quest.

Also in Halo 1 on the fifth mission in the snowy environment, at the point where you emerge in the canyon and some marines are being pinned down by covenant infantry and a Wraith, there is a sniper rifle and rocket launcher that you can pick up, as well as a Warthog. After the warthog mayhem however all I did was bludgeon every enemy I came across because I didn't want to quickly waste my sniper and rocket ammo. By the end of the level even after I sniped some Elites and rocketed the last Wraith in front of the shrine I still had tons of ammo left, not to mention there was a lot of extra sniper and rocket ammo in the previous base with the two Hunters.

Lastly, when I played Resident Evil 4, despite finding tons of ammo for all the weapon types and some grenades I still conserved ammo and health items by knocking down enemies and knifing them to death. Even with the largest Attache case I still ran out of room because I just couldn't bare to use up my grenades or rare ammo like magnum and rifle ammo.

Pretty much any game. I will never use my best weapon, even if I'm losing badly to a boss.

The Alien blaster in Fallout 3. Never use it, I don't know why but the idea of using very limited ammo makes me horde it instead.

I was fighting a dragon in Dragon Age and I didn't wanna use one of my 40 health potions because I might have needed it later. After slaying the dragon after killing it 3 times I realised, when am I going to need these potions more than when I'm fighting a fucking dragon?

You can just use umbra and azura's star, then you can keep refilling the magic on swords and staff :)

and i usually do this on resident evil 4/5 and dead space

I did the same thing in Halo 1... except I saved the sniper rifle for too long and the Flood appeared, and for some retarded reason that is only explained in one of the books for about half a page, the sniper rifle doesn't work on the Flood. It said the bullet was too fast and the Flood are too spongy for the bullet to work, or something like that.

I have essentially completed all of the Resident Evil games only using Pistols and Shotguns, I horde the power weapons for fear of running into something powerful. I'll get to the end and realise I have an entire storage chest/attache case full of guns and ammo.

RPG in resident evil four, kept one the entire game, convinced that something meaner would require a hit from it.

I did the same thing in Resident Evil 4. Half of my largest case in the end was healing items (I counted, I only used 4 healing items the entire game, I'm more beast than I knew LOL) and the next 3/4 of that space was grenades and handgun ammo. The last bit was my Red 9 because that handgun was also beast.

The GD Tanuki suit in Super Mario Bros 3. And I, being the packrat that I am, can't complete Disgaea because I have to search Every. Single. Item for the random levels and better XP. This leads to quests for new items, and newer weapons which is a seriously vicious cycle.

Don't even get me started on how I can barely finish RE3 without picking up EVERYTHING and combining all of the red herbs for max effectiveness. By the time the game is over, I've barely used any herbs but I'll be snookered if most of them aren't in my storage, waiting for a chance to be used. >_<

Oh, and I was on the final boss with 2 rockets. I chose to take him on with the Magnum and combine bullets than waste those last two shots.

I need help...

I'm a sucker for this, especially on Oblivion. Turns out that I keep holding back from using my latest piece of enchanted weaponary, only to have my standart kit hold up pretty well. I was the same way in Saints Row 2, always saving my assault rifle ammo for a tight squeeze. Dual 44's always seemed to suffice though...

I don't really have this problem, because I have learned in most games that it's best just to grab the ammo and you very rarely run out of ammo, if you grab all the ammo you see.

What was meaner than Salazar's right-hand? Seriously?

On topic, I have never used a Master Ball. Ever. I've been playing Pokemon since '95.
Don't usually have a problem in other games.

In Resistance: Fall of Man, I would stick to using just the Bullseye even though there were so many cool guns to use that had rarer ammo. I ended up finding out how awesome some of the guns were when I just played individual missions.

Basically I hoard anything that has limited/very hard to find ammo or is really powerful. Like the Fatman in Fallout 3. I found one, hung onto it for ages, then I just thought screw it and used it to blow up a Super Mutant Behemoth.

This is one of my favorite quotes from Zero Punctuation.

I ended up using the quote as a description for a bonus in my game. In order to get it you have to go through the level without using any of the special items (which are the most powerful items in the game).

I do it quite a lot, then after struggling a fair bit with whatever it is I'm doing, I realise that I'll never need it more than I did just there.

Holy Mightstone from World of Warcraft.

Explanation: I might use it...if Hell breaks out...and I'm the only one available...and it was going to disappear anyway...and it could never come back...and (continued for near infinity)
