I will admit that I have not got Skyrim up to now, mainly because I feared my computer couldn't run it. However after a bit of checking I've discovered I meet the recommended requirement and so are angling to buy it.

However as there isn't going to be anyone more DLC and there a rumors of a GOTY/ultimate edition coming out soon and I'm a bit of a completionist and so would like the all the DLC for its own sake.

I'm not in that much of a rush so I'm wondering, get the standard games now or wait a while and get the GOTY edition?

If you've waited this long waiting a little longer won't hurt, at least until we get a release date for a goty edition (my bet is by the end of the year).

Who knows maybe they'll have a steam sale this summer and you can pick up the whole package cheaper than the goty edition anyways.

The amount of DLCs is somewhat disappointing compared to Oblivion. I thought we'd get another big one maybe or even some more smaller ones.

I'm just going to wait til a Steam sale or GOTY edition is out to pick the DLCs up.

You've waited this long, I say wait another while.

That what I've done and I'm happy to wait til I can get it all on disk.

Serious question here - how much difference do the DLC's and extra content make to the original game?

Essentially, if you found the original boring, shallow, watered-down and lackluster (and also hated the magic system) will the DLC's make much of a difference?
if you didn't like the vanilla game for those reasons, then no you probably won't like the dlc's. They don't bring back the leveling system or plots from the earlier games.

However if you did enjoy the vanilla game here's my scores on the doors:

Dragonborn 8
Dawnguard 7
Heathfire 5 (and kinda pointless on the PC as I'm sure there's a mod)

Buy it when you find a good bargain, no sense waiting for the GOTY edition when there is no release date.

I can't speak for the DLCs, I don't support them. My friends bought the Dawnguard dlc, they said it wasn't bad but it was bug ridden and overpriced.

Try and not get hyped though, you'll just end up disappointed. It's really not that good of a game.

I am unsure how a 2011 game could get a GOTY edition out on 2013 since they already had released a DLC included version of the game released in the EU.Skyrim premium edition was called i think.

Bottom line is if you already have a sort of GOTY why not charge more for that last part of dlc

I'd say wait for the GOTY edition. I got the game on release and the DLC's for my 360, but since getting a new laptop I'm waiting for the GOTY edition to come with all the DLCs before I buy for it for my laptop. And if you've already waited this long, little longer won't hurt. I think it's due out in the summer.

Much appreciated mate, thanks :)

Unfortunately I wasn't that keen on the Vanilla game, so I'll hang out for a later spruce up or the next TES game. Shame because, IMO, It'll be near 15 years by the time they've made anything to match up to Morrowind at this rate :(

Thanks again.
It's funny before Skyrim I'd only played Oblivion and wasn't too keen (loved the Dark Brotherhood, the rest meh!)
I really enjoyed Skyrim so decided (as a sane person does) to go backwards..........
I LOVE Morrowind, sure I've got all the mods going on, but by jingo the story!

Right now Skyrim + all DLC is 85$ Ultimate edition will probably be 60$ when its new. So if you want to save 25$, wait, or try to grab Skyrim on a sale.

Yep. I was exactly the same with Oblvion mate - the Dark Brootherhood section was an 9/10 part of a 5/10 game for me.

Morrowind really hits the nail on the head for me too. It's combination of both an original + "alien" world, downtrodden atmospheric environments, and TRUE freedom to do what you want (tinker with spell creation etc.) gives us an environment which i feel is far superior and finely crafted than the "copy-paste" sequels. As you say what really makes that work is the fact that it's backed up by a great story, and some extremely interesting side-missions.

The whole game just absorbs you, it's quite frightening just how well it does so and how much it feels like exploring another world. It's the pinnacle for gaming when it comes to actually feeling like your in a fantasy land IMO.

All they have to do is take that base, implement a better combat system (Skyrim's was getting there, but could still be better IMO), update the text-based RPG system, and either re-release the old version or create a new story - or both! It would be amazing of done right, but sadly they've spent 10 years stifling their creativity and watering down the series with lackluster RPG elements, and with bland/commonplace LOTR style settings and enemies etc.

I'm just looking at screenshots of all the alien creatures and outlandish armors of the local houses - what a game.
I have played both morrowind and oblivion but for some reason they end up burning me out. Morrowind the ancient combat/quest system and shere scale of the game world means I just keep exploring and finding things instead of getting on with the plot, meaning I get bored. Its also really frustrating to have to search around every town for one person with vague directions.

Oblivion is a more modern combat system which I can get into more but the sameness of the more generic world and lack of things to do all burns me out.

From what I hear Skyrim sits between the two, better and more interesting world (more stuff if not more depth) more like Morrowind but the with more modern/accessable gameplay of oblivion so I might actually like it.

I would wait. IMO the Dragonborn and Dawnguard DLCs are pretty expensive for what little you get out of it. So rather then pay $40 for the basse game +$45? for all the DLC you can just wait a bit longer and buy the full thing for $60. You must have something else to play in the meantime, if you dont try some free to play games in the meantime. Lots are worth it

There is the Legendary edition [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/123388-Report-Skyrim-Legendary-Edition-Compiles-All-DLC-Packs] coming up soon, so why not wait for that? It seems to be under 50 bucks for the whole thing, so it'd be worth it, I supppose.
