Hellsing ARMS 13 mm Auto Anti-Freak Cannon 'Jackal' - length of 39 cm, weight of 16 kg, and made of black gunmetal. It fires special 13 mm armor-piercing, explosive, mercury-core baptized bullets, with casings of Macedonian silver, powered by "Marvell's Chemical Cartridge N.N.A.9.". It has six rounds per magazine. The words 'Jesus Christ is in Heaven now' are engraved upon it.

I'd say that if you don't have that, everything else would just seem unfulfilling.

Well, I guess this would be an exception

If you're willing to call it a handgun.

If you just want something to go shooting with at the range I would go with something like this

It's a Ruger mark III target. I own one of the earlier models, and have shot that pistol as well. I can say that the trigger is very crisp and will serve you well.
There are a few reasons for this

1) .22 long rifle ammo is way cheaper than the ammo for those other pistols. At least where I am from I can buy about 1000 .22 rounds for the price of 50 rounds of decent 9mm ammo.
2) If you are wanting to get better at shooting the .22 platform is the best way. You don't have to worry about recoil as much. So you can focus on the other fundamentals. Trigger squeeze, sight alignment, grip, etc.
3) In the future if you want you can add a red dot sight to the top.

That pistol will give you a great platform to practice on. If you want to get more serious then you can upgrade to something like this

Source: I have been a competitive shooter for the last 5 years and shoot at least 12 hours a week if not more.

What's the budget?

Seeing as you already have three choices, I suggest you buy the one that fits your budget.

If you can, but two used...from a reputable shop, so you don't get crap.

Just saying...hmm...

If you want a range gun, I suggest you buy a .22LR revolver or .22lr sem-auto.

Just because the ammo is cheaper, 9MM is what...like $30 a box of 50 at the moment?

I live in California, so everything is more expensive.

Self defense: Taurus Revolver 4" .357 You can also use .38 ammo if you don't want all that power but still have enough to stop an intruder. and save some money if you use it as your range gun.

I wouldn't buy a semi-auto for self defense because they have greater chance to jam. Unless you are going to drop a lot down and get a Glock or a $1300 1911.

Range gun: Anything you want really. I like 45acp pistols myself. But 9mm pistols are cheaper when it comes to buying ammo.

My friend has this gun and it is VERY smooth (feels comfortable, light trigger pull, easy recoil). It's a little light for me but it's a 9mm so the recoil isn't much.

I'm getting my first handgun tomorrow also but I'm probably going to get a revolver. They're usually much easier to perform maintenance on for beginners. The only problem with maintenance is if the barrel gets warped. Which means an expensive trip to an expert where more modern guns use interchangeable parts and can be much easily repaired at home.

Also because this gun is the best gun in the world.

Is it hard to find Browning BDMs?
Because everything i've heard about them is good, being effectively an upgraded hi-power. Only drawback is the safety system which is apparently hard to get used to. Also, they might be lighter/thinner than you'd like if you have big hands and want a heavy gun. Very easy to carry concealed, though, and ultra reliable.

i like the taurus pt92 .40 S&W. but if you really want a 9mm i would go for a glock or a sig P226. a other gun i like is the Five-seveN.

My experience with Rugers have been pleasant. The smaller ones can be very accessible and not too show-offy.

Out of those, though, I'd take the M9.

I prefer revolvers myself but when I do use an automatic I choose a 1911. Of the guns you've presented I would go towards the Beretta however that is based on a lack of knowledge and firsthand experience with the CZ. Having fired the M9 I liked the accuracy, weight and after 2 boxes of ammo (100 rounds) I never encountered a failure.

I actually just purchased a .45 Long Colt from Cimarron. I love that pistol. Out of yours, much like others, I love the Beretta's so I'd choose that.

Out of your choices I'd go with the cz 75 bd. However like other people have said a 22 is very cheap to shoot. I personally went with a Walter p 22. It only ran me 375 and its been very good to me. I've heard conflicting opinions on the 92 fs though. A friend was in the service and he told me they were junk.
Hope that helps.

You know, I'm surprised there isn't more anti-gunners flaming this thread? Quite a surprise.
[sub]I probably spoke too soon...[/sub]

Anyway, I honestly know very little about guns. I'd say you should look up any reviews of the firearms in question and make a judgement based on those reviews and prices. After all, only you know what your budget is.

If it's definitely a 9mm you want, I'd say that the Sig-Sauer P226 is best. If not, then the FN Five-Seven.

Basically, if you want a gun, of any sort, your probably best going to the Belgians.

I can't say much for the first 2, but when I was in a gun club in Hawaii, I got to shoot an M9 and absolutely loved the damn thing.

For me, it was quite easy to fire, the recoil wasn't much to worry about and it seemed like a sturdy gun from the 30 minutes or so I got to play around with one.
