You know, you just keep spouting out useless drivel. I don't want, or need the publishers to DO anything for me... I want them STOP doing shit like DRM and online passes because it inconveniences their FULL RETAIL PAYING customers.

They don't "owe" me anything, and they are free to do whatever the hell they want to in the domain of their business. But killing something like game stop will be like cutting off their nose to spite their face.

I've had enough of their crap and I'm sure if they keep pulling shit like this eventually enough people will get tired of their crap too.

You and your condescending "adapt or get out" attitude is really not making any valid points or even having a proper debate. You're just sitting there chastizing me because I feel that the developers are being dicks. You know, I feel that Apple are total dicks too, and guess what, I have no Apple products.

I don't need to change at all. I AM voting with my wallet and telling the retailers what I do and do not want in my products. It seems that you don't need to change at all either, because you just blindly accept whatever publishers do to your games because "it's their right", so go ahead, line up every year for your piece of shit games and your online passes and DRM and day 1 DLC. Just don't complain to me when your games aren't fun anymore.

There is a used market for pretty much everything, like movies, books, music, cars, tv's, etc. why should games be handled differently?

Voting with your wallet doesn't work in mass markets. It only works for small businesses. Basically, it's a practice from the past. They won't miss your $20-50 because they'll be swimming in pools full of other people's money. Your vote is neither seen nor known about, in all reality.

I'm a full retail paying customer, and it doesn't inconvenience me. Granted, I don't play PC games, but inputting a code to get online access? WHAT IF I BREAK A NAIL!?

Gamestop isn't their nose. It's not even part of their face. It's like cutting off someone else's nose to spite THEIR face, and then not getting in trouble for it because it's perfectly legal.

I don't know, there can't be that many petty whiners in the world, can there?

There is no proper debate to be had. We're not negotiating with the gaming companies. They're doing something, and we can either accept it or not. You don't accept it. I do. One of us will continue to enjoy new games. The other one will sit with his arms crossed making an angry face and stomping on the ground and saying "HMMPH."

As for you not having Apple products, boy, you're sure killing them. I don't either. That's two of us, and yet somehow Apple manages to barely scrape by. I don't know how they do it.

Well, no. You aren't "telling the retailers" anything. (Unless you stand in Gamestop and lecture the employees, which I'm sure TOTALLY gets back to the publishers. No, you're good. Really.)

"Line up every year for your piece of shit games"? Are you now changing your argument into "all games suck now!"? Arkham City is a "piece of shit game" just because it has day-1 DLC? Small price to pay to play a fucking awesome game. Ditto Saints Row 3 (though fun fact: that online pass is still sitting unused on a shelf. I'll probably never use it. Oh, the agony!)

Yeah, I understand that individually I don't make much of a difference, a cultural shift in the attitudes of gamers is required, and, well, with today's instant gratification market that's not really going to happen, but then something like Skyrim or Portal 2 happens and that opens the development community's eyes a bit. Same with Minecraft.

I don't give a toss about publishers losing pennies over used game sales.
But I do want developers to get as much money as they can so I don't buy used games.
-if they make good games, that is. Shite developers can go sod off.

Some developers are swimming in money of course, but some talented, passionate developers are not, so...
Well whatever, to each their own.

What I get coming out this thread is a severe misunderstanding of what the word "entitlement" actually means. Legally speaking, gamers actually are entitled to resell their games without interference from the publisher. What's more, you know what shows a false sense of entitlement? Rich A-holes talking about how games are a luxury product, and if you can't afford them, you aren't good enough to take part in the hobby. No duh they're a luxury product, but they're one on the level of a DVD, not on the level of two DVD players (which you can get for the cost of a single new videogame.) Games are overpriced, gamers realize this, and the companies are doing everything in their power to ignore the demand side market factors that mean the asking price is too high. They need to either lower their supply to the amount that people are actually willing to buy at $60 a pop (which means a much smaller market, populated almost exclusively by the wealthy), or lower their price to something that the average person can buy -- say, $20, a price competitive with DVDs.

I only really read the first couple of posts. For me, the fact I can buy a game and trade it when I'm finished is the only reason I'm going to fork out so much for a game.
